I just played walkWays tonight online, which is 29,427 of 29,766 of the 8's. I also hooked onto um to make dumdums in club a couple months ago, which is 23,973 of 24,029. (These are zyzzyva probabilities by the way.)

So what low probability words have you played?

HERMITRY (18000 range), ETHEPHON (21000 range) and BEJABERS (25000 range) are a few 8s that come instantly to mind for me. I'm sure there are more but those are a few of my faves that I remember right away.

I don't study, so I am not sure how to calculate probs (and work computer won't let me Zyzz) but one I played against Rod this weekend has to be low on the eights: DRAUGHTY

I also won some low-prob 8 prize for ROUGHISH

Those are good. ROUGHISH is 24,596 and DRAUGHTY is 20,124. I am not sur eexactly it is calculated, but the premise is that words with infrequently occuring letters and letters that occur more than once are more rare than other words. I have tried to figure out the math behind it. I know there are obviously some permutations and combinations somehow involved, but I am not sure how he programmed the blanks into the equation.

I think it is kind of neat to learn the rare words. I typically try and add about 10-20 new 7's and 8's everyday that are high-probability, and then I'll throw in the occasional low-probability word just so someday I can lay down PLUMBUM and wow the room.

Lowest prob one that comes to mind is V(O)LVOXES, played on ISC back in 2005, before I'd even gotten into club/tournament Scrabble.

I also don't know how to find out the probability ranking, but these words seem to be fairly uncommon.

yeshiva
equinox
evocative ( yeah a nine with 2 V's, probably 'flashiest' bingo I've ever played).

Those words stick out more though - something like "whacked" I would forget if/when I played it, but it's loaded with high pointers.

And I've almost certainly played vughs on a few occasions, that must be among the lowest probability 5's?

Just type it in to Zyzzyva. The number at left is the probability. (EDIT: oops, didn't see the other post that says you didn't have access to it at work).

MUZZY is lowest prob at 8932 (FUZZY right with it). Remember: BUZZY#. I always thought JAZZY, and totally forgot MUZZY was even a word. Words like that are so hard to remember. VUGHS is 8290, so about 700 off the lowest.

WHACKED is 21485, so pretty close to MUUMUUS at 24027, ZYZZYVA, and PIZZAZZ, two down.

CHUGGING's probability is about as low as the probability of Lipe being sober for an entire tournament weekend.

While it probably isn't my lowest probability play, it was fun: HIzZONER, around 21,000 by probability. On a triple, drawing a challenge. Not sure the lowest prob 7, but I played DEWCLAW recently, in the 17,300 range. SEXLESS, around 19,500, is probably the lowest.

I played ZWIEBACK as a natural many years ago. It was a 2x2, so it scored 106. That might be the lowest probability natural among the 8's, especially if it's through the E, but I think it was a different letter when I played it.

FYI:

http://www.cross-tables.com/lookup.php has a crappy, crappy little lookup thingy* that will tell you the probability and playability of any word. Note that my probability ordering is different from Zyzzyva's in places, as there's tie-breaking and then blanks to consider or not consider, depending on your approach.

If you put in a "?", it'll anagram (slowly) too.

Anyway, it's handy if Zyzzyva's not around.

Although it doesn't rank very high on probability, I think any 9 letter word is pretty uncommon.

Apparently "squeaks" is less probable than "whacked" or any other word I listed (which zyzzyva says aren't even that rare).

I've definitely played squeaks probably more than once too.

And bikini is less probable than qwerty...

Man all the words I don't think much about end up being the less probable ones.

Monkeyed is in the bottom third of all 8's

Doing this off the top of my head:

SCHMALTZ is one of the lower 8s I've played: 27979/29677.
I guess ZADDIKIM a couple months ago was even lower: 28781.

DOOWOPS was 22450/24xxx for 7s.

for 9s, PROPINING was 24312 out of 30kish 9s.

My lowest natural bingo was a very common word, SNAGGIN(G) vs. robinsky at the dells tournament, which is about 1500 from the bottom for 8's (28,252 to be exact).

Jan 2010 Reno main event, I played 'up' in Div 1 and in gm 5 played Jim Burlant.
He played PLAN at O8, I played ZUz at N10 for 62 pts. p=1014/1014. ANYone seen or heard of it being played in a tourney?
Just last weekend in RENO, I played off my good tiles leaving GUI, I cringed as I looked at each tile I drew:

Next play I got it down on one of the few bingo lanes left on the board, front-hooking the F onto my own earlier play of LAX. CUFFING for 98 (plus the bonus that it got challenged(!) ) I checked it at p = 23028/24028

Once I played COWPLOP (blank for one of the P's I think) against Nigel, which is 23756. Others I can remember are KABUkIS at 2010 Nationals (23428) and CHITCHAT (with a blank somewhere) at club (29347)
