Total Scrabble

Postby astrp3 » Mon Jan 19, 2009 6:20 pm

This didn't really fit under the other areas, so I thought I'd post it here.
I have finally updated Total Scrabble (the Unofficial Scrabble Record Book) and you can view it here:
http://www.cross-tables.com/download/totalscrabble.pdf

Or you can download a smaller zipped MS Word version here:
http://www.cross-tables.com/download/totalscrabble.zip

The purpose of this topic is to solicit suggestions for new records I could add. If you can think of some kind of record you'd like to see in there, post it here and I'll see what I can do (we may not have the data for it but try me anyway).

hi keith,
I just noticed that Adam Logan and I had a game at this year's Albany New Year's tournament that ties the record for most bingos combined in a game. We played on New Year's day. Adam had 5 bingos, including DIVINEST, FAULTIER, FLAGPOLE, ARANEID and INSOMNIA as a 90-point double-double out-bingo. I played DISHIER, DEMIVOLT, ABETTOR and FASTING. Final score was 579-450 in his favor.

Keith:

Are you not counting NAST satellites for tournament records?

Also, Dave Wiegand had back-to-back 6 bingo games (rounds 17 and 18) in last year's Reno tournament, against Lisa Odom in round 17 and Carl Johnson in 18. Carl had 3 bingos back in 18 for a 9 bingo game.

This is great stuff.

One question, though, from page 146:

"Flashiest Bingo
DIVISION 1: DENTURE, Dan Sereduick, also forming FA, ATE, ORE, and (MI)R(EX)"

How can a play of DENTURE form the word FA when neither of the letters of FA are in DENTURE?

Nice job. Could the Arden Cup be added as a semi-major?

Also does anyone know if the highest loss game (Rau 552) is posted anywhere? I couldn't find it on this site.

I didn't realize BEZIQUE had been beat. Is there any higher possible opening play then MUZJIKS? I once drew EQUINOX on my opening rack (no blanks) for 116 points. Close!

page 36, krafchick's record should be 25.5-5, not 25.5-1.5

I have updated Total Scrabble with the various suggestions and corrections here and elsewhere.
The new version is available via the same link as before.

Not a lot of totally new stuff, but there are three new records.

Here is a summary of the changes (at least the ones I remember):

New Records:
Most 500-point games, single tournament (Marlon won't like the official record holder)
Most points scored with 3 tiles
Most bingos in Two Consecutive Games (I thought I'd added this one before)

New career accomplishment: Ron Tiekert's Game Room Dominance

Tied Existing Records:
Added another 9-combined-bingo game
Added another 10+-letter bingo
Added another entry to the winning a tournament with a negative spread category
Corrected the bogus Highest Spread With a Losing Record record (Robert Gillis is once againt the record holder)
Added another entry in the Most Consecutive Tournaments Won record

Corrected Tournament Wins By Player section to include 2007-08 data (though I haven't proofread it yet).

I'm not sure if this is a valid record or if it currently exists, but highest spread in a one-day tournament?

I just went 7-0 +1003 in Berlin Div 4 today, and I was wondering if it was anywhere near the best.

I also had a 90 point miscount in a tournament today, only tripling a triple triple once instead of 3 times. [BLIN(KI)NG]
Is that a category? I didn't notice my error until 3 games later :/

I've only checked a few players, but I did find this 7-0 +1119 performance by Ira Cohen.

Hmm

http://cross-tables.com/tourney.php?t=6165&div=2

And debut tournament to boot!

By comparison I looked like poo in my first tournament, I couldn't even average 400 points/game against the lowest rated players I'll ever play.

Oh, duh. I forgot about how much Eric Tran kicks ass. My first tourney I averaged 280. Horrid. :/
