>Austin_Shin: BDEILLN 8D BILLED +24 24
#note This was game 1 out of 3 from my appearance on the Try Guys YouTube channel, as part of their "4 vs 1" series, released in February 2024. In this game, my handicap was to give the Try Guys a 200 point headstart. As I wasn't keeping score, and I'm adding to XT for posterity about 2 months after the recording - unfortunately, I don't remember my racks. The Try Guys team consisted of Zach Kornfeld, Jonny Manganello, Kwesi James and Ash Perez. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/r7a4GCB4R6g?si=nQL42G4_UVPFVLjG
>Try_Guys: KNPY E7 P.NKY +28 28
#note Strong first move from the Try Guys.
>Austin_Shin: AEINORV G4 OVER.AIN +63 87
#note Off to the races with my first bingo of the day... and it's the only playable bingo.
>Try_Guys: ADEIIMW H1 WADE +30 58
#note The Try Guys were unsure of OE. They threw caution to the wind and played it anyway - though out all the normal everyday words, WIDE would've been significantly better in the same position, getting rid of duplicate Is.
>Austin_Shin: BCEPRRU D11 BURP +23 110
#note With a quarter of the game played, and with the Try Guys' 200 point advantage, I'm currently down 87 - 258. Therefore, I decided to attempt opening up the board to land more bingos.
>Try_Guys: ?DFIIMT 15A FITs +26 84
#note The Try Guys opted to burn the blank in this situation, though alarmingly for me and my 200 point deficit, it's now 3 moves out of 3 scoring 25+ points to start off the day.
>Austin_Shin: CEEHR 5D CHE.RE +37 147
#note Score now 110 - 284. I decided to attempt opening up a bit more and scoring a solid number of points.
>Try_Guys: FMO 13B FO.M +18 102
#note The Try Guys slowed down a little bit here with their lowest score so far.
>Austin_Shin: AIIIX 14D .IX +32 179
#note Partial rack from memory - I simply remember having a lot of vowels here. Attempting to extend the game with a shorter play, and setting up my 2 Is to play underneath the X to the triple word square. IXIA 27 (2E) is technically better, but the score really being 147 - 302, then blocking bingo lanes at the top is not what I want to do here.
>Try_Guys: ADGIJOO 12A JA +22 124
>Try_Guys: ADGIJOO -- -22 102
#note The ended up being the one and only time that the Try Guys played a phony word in this series, as they played JA/AF* (12A). JO in same spot would've been valid.
>Austin_Shin: AEII 7E .E.AI +16 195
#note Again, still plagued with vowels, I used this opportunity to rid of threee vowels and reduce the deficit to 195 - 302, with still half of the game left to go.
>Try_Guys: GOO B10 GOO. +12 114
#note Blocked board here, and the Try Guys found it hard to find any decent plays.
>Austin_Shin: AAEILRS A6 AERIALS +82 277
#note It was slight relief here as I had no playable bingos until GOOF was played. This was the only playable bingo from the position, and now the 200 point deficit has almost been overturned.
>Try_Guys: ADJ F2 JAD. +32 146
#note Another impressive move from the Try Guys scoring 32 points on this turn, pushing their lead back to 277 - 346. It also obstructs bingos on both rows 1 and 2 and the onus would again be on me to open up to bingo again.
>Austin_Shin: MNY B5 NYM +33 310
#note Consonant-heavy here and thought I'd play a decent scoring play here to keep the scoreboard pressure on. After this move, the gap is now down to 36.
>Try_Guys: ?AIORTU 11G .ATURe +10 156
#note The Try Guys opt to use the second blank for 10 points on this tight board. Was the best case scenario for me as they missed normal words like (D)URATIOn (3H), it didn't score much, opened up the board and also...
>Austin_Shin: AEQU H11 .QUAE +72 382
#note ... gave me a place for my Q bomb! AQUAE scored 72, and for the first time, now ahead 382 - 356, despite the 200 point handicap. Still 16 in the bag at this stage, so once I got ahead, I would fancy my chances to stay ahead from here.
>Try_Guys: IS I11 .IS +18 174
#note Burned an S for 18 points - but now we're on turn and I'm still 8 points ahead.
>Austin_Shin: ADEINNS L5 ADENIN.S +68 450
#note This was move that killed it off - my bingo for 68. As they burned 2 blanks already, I didn't feel like there was much threat of the Try Guys bingoing at any point for the reaminder of this game.
>Try_Guys: CEOOOTU 8L .OTE +12 186
#note This was the move where Lindsay noticed that the Try Guys had 8 tiles on their rack. After explaining the overdraw rule I turned over IOO, opting to throw the I back into the bag.
>Austin_Shin: GHOT K2 GOTH +26 476
#note Consistent scoring from here should see me over the line, even in the case of some miracle bingo that the Try Guys might find.
>Try_Guys: GNOZ 3J G.NZO +30 216
#note The Try Guys with a nice high scoring play, though it now means that they empty the bag and only have 6 tiles, meaning that they cannot bingo and the result is now safe. Score is 476 - 416 to me.
>Austin_Shin: EIORSTV O1 VISOR +43 519
#note Found my highest scoring play for 43 points. Only did I realize in a couple of minutes that it would set up an iconic play within this video!
>Try_Guys: CELTUW 12L .LEW +11 227
#note Try Guys end up 227 for this game.
>Austin_Shin: ET 5K ..TE. +8 527
#note Went for the content play of (HA)TE(R) as the result was not in doubt! Kwesi mentioned the Try Guys could've played this move on the previous turn but they found a higher scoring play. Only then did I realize, that I was holding onto the TE to be able to play out on this turn and make the HATER play!
