#player1 Jonathan_Lindh Jonathan Lindh
#player2 Renato_Umali Renato Umali
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEIIIIO -AIIIIO +0 0
#note November 2023 WGPO Madison Tournament. Game 10. Best.
>Renato_Umali: ENW 8G NEW +12 12
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?EEFLRY 7H dEERFLY +71 71
#note One of my finest blank bingo finds of the tournament. DEERFLY is the only 7 in this rack. G4 GREENFLY for 68 is the other playable bingo.
>Renato_Umali: TUX 9F TUX +23 35
>Jonathan_Lindh: IIJQRTT 10E QI +17 88
#note Missed J3 TRIJET for 36 and J6 JET for 33. Those are the best plays. QI is #3.
>Renato_Umali: INRU 11C RUIN +33 68
>Jonathan_Lindh: IJNRTTU N2 INJUR. +36 124
#note J3 TRIJET and J6 JET are best again, although INJURY is very close behind. #3 again according to Quackle.
>Renato_Umali: ENZ 12B ZEN +30 98
>Jonathan_Lindh: CEEHPTT K5 PE.CH +24 148
#note Didn't see 6I THEE for 41. That's too many points to pass up.
>Renato_Umali: AEILOSV M6 A.VEOLIS +76 174
>Renato_Umali: AEILOSV -- -76 98
#note PERCH blocked VARIOLES as a 2x2. THEE also would have given up OVERLIES and OVERSALE as 2x2 non-bingo double doubles. 13B AVISO for 42 and 13C VIOLA for 33 are good options for Renato. ALVEOLI, ALVEOLUS, and ALVEOLATE are good but not ALVEOLIS. I quickly challenged.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAEEITT 13A EAT +23 171
#note Have to take out row 13 plays.
>Renato_Umali: AEILOSV L9 OVAL +19 117
#note Sadly, I didn't see I was giving him back SELVA. I just saw SEV which would have closed the bottom left and blown up his rack.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEINOTU A13 .AU +9 180
#note I know Renato's partial rack of -IES so I want to take out ZAS plays.
>Renato_Umali: DEIINST 13F INDITES +68 185
#note 15A UNTIDIES for 80 is the play here.
>Jonathan_Lindh: BEGINOT J5 OB. +25 205
#note I didn't see B12 ZAG for 32 which ended up being Renato's next play. OBE worked out fine for me though. Quackle likes OBE best. The ETING leave seemed to work well on this board.
>Renato_Umali: G 14A .G +32 217
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEGHINT 3H NAETHI.G +76 281
#note Best. There's HEATING/GAHNITE again. Except I had GAHNITE arranged as GHANITE* on my rack thanks to Darin true's phony against me in Game 5.
>Renato_Umali: EIIKRSS 4C KISSIER +79 296
#note Nice find! I held this play for about 30 seconds and then released.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ADLOOOR H12 O.OR +18 299
#note Horrible draw. I like 3B LOO for 20 better in retrospect. More points and safer.
>Renato_Umali: GO H1 GO.. +15 311
>Jonathan_Lindh: AADLLOV F2 VA.AL +18 317
#note Maybe K11 LAEVO for 22. My play blocks more lines but the R line is very dangerous. I scored VASAL as 15.
>Renato_Umali: ?ADDEIO 15F pA.ODIED +60 371
#note None of saw 15H ROADSIDE for 77 post-mortem. That would have helped to prevent what happened next in addition to scoring 17 more points.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ADLOSTW 11J WO.LD +18 335
#note Things are looking bleak. I somehow need to open space on a closed board and hope Renato makes some kind of mistake. Quackle has WOALD as one of it's top choices. I hold the only hook for WOALD and this play will probably force RENATO to block for not that much thanks to the vowel shortage and surplus of clunky consonants left in the pool. I may even be able to bingo through the I or the K. WOALD was one of my favorite strategic plays of the tournament.
>Renato_Umali: EF 14M EF +13 384
#note I was playing very fast throughout the game, so I had 12-15 minutes left on my clock at this point and Renato had about 2. This is the mistake I was looking for. EF, does block bingos, but it allows both A12 plays and even more devastatingly for him, _SY plays that hit the triple word score at O8.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ACOPSTY O8 COPSY +58 393
#note Best. One of two winning plays for me. O8 POTSY for 52 is the other. O8 PATSY for 52 which I briefly considered does not win. One of my finest comebacks of the year.
>Renato_Umali: ABEMMRT C2 BA.ER +22 406
#note E4 SMARM for 28 is best for RENATO, but he was very low on time and nothing wins for him. We also both had the scores wrong, so we recounted and got a score of 390-384 me before this play, which is still wrong, because somehow I undercounted 3 points for myself.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AT L3 .AT +17 410
#note Best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: (MMT) +14 424
#note Final score recorded as 421-406 because I misscored VASAL as 15 instead of 18. Very pleased with this comeback after the Josh Sokol loss.
