#player2 Steve_Hartsman Steve Hartsman
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAEIORW 8G AI +4 4
#note November 2023 WGPO Madison Tournament. Game 4. I am 3-0 +290 and am leading the field. This game started my decline. 8F AWA for 12 seems to be the play although I don't think AI is TOO bad. Nothing is really good here. Trading to the ER is another way to go.
>Steve_Hartsman: EORTX 9F OXTER +40 40
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEEORRW 10E OWE +37 41
#note Best.
>Steve_Hartsman: AA 7H AA +6 46
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEHRRRT 11C RARE +18 59
#note D7 RATHER for 30 is the play here. The Championship Player doesn't intially find RARE, but when added to a sim it does reasonably well.
>Steve_Hartsman: ADEGINT J8 G.ADIENT +64 110
#note GRADIENT and TREADING are Steve's only bingos. Quackle likes TREADING a little more.
>Jonathan_Lindh: HNORTTZ 13I Z.ROTH +56 115
#note Best. GRADIENT bailed me out big time. ZEROTH would come up later on. I would play other cool 6 letter words later on in the tournament.
>Steve_Hartsman: JLW L12 J.WL +30 140
>Jonathan_Lindh: DGNNOTT 6E TONG +12 127
#note Best. Nothing looked good here.
>Steve_Hartsman: CPTY C10 C.YPT +24 164
>Jonathan_Lindh: DDFMNOT 15G FON. +21 148
#note I thought non-bingo triple triples seemed very foreboding here, so I blocked and scored here.
>Steve_Hartsman: ILY 15L .ILY +21 185
>Jonathan_Lindh: DDIKMTV 5D VIM +24 172
#note F3 MIKVOT for 21 is the play here. That's very hard to see. VIM isn't that far behind.
>Steve_Hartsman: ?AHIMNS K4 MAnNISH +93 278
#note Best play. I wondered why Steve didn't play a bingo with ZEROTHS. I would soon find out.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ADDKSTU 15A DUSK +55 227
#note Best.
>Steve_Hartsman: AEUV L2 UVEA +24 302
>Jonathan_Lindh: ABDDEOT 12A DA.BED +49 276
#note Best. One of my best finds of the tournament. So many cool 6 letter words finds!
>Steve_Hartsman: EIPQU A7 PIQUE. +54 356
>Jonathan_Lindh: EIINOST B1 INOSITE +72 348
#note Best.
>Steve_Hartsman: GLNO 1A L.NGO +24 380
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?EEEFIR 14I E. +14 362
#note If only I drew one fewer E. I strongly considered J8 GIFtEE for 39 to try and go out first but the pool seemed very dangerous. If I played GIFTEE, Steve would have bingoed out with AUREOLES. I also was eyeing drawing seven letter bingos hooking ZEROTHS. I saw FAERIES, FERLIES, and maybe FERRIES. FORESIDE, OVERFINE, and OVERRIFE also fit with the O and B3. REFIGURE and REINFUSE are also threats through the U at L2. The Championship Player prefered 14F FE for 18 but ZEN is also highly rated. I disagree with Quackle. I can't empty the bag here and give Steve perfect information.
>Steve_Hartsman: AELORSU G12 SUR. +22 402
#note Actual rack. Steve had ROULEAUS here which none of saw postgame. The B and the C were left in the bag, which were two of the tiles I dreaded drawing because they produce no playable bingos.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?BEEFIR O8 BRIEFs +60 422
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?BEEFIR -- -60 362
#note I saw GIFtEE didn't win and I thought ZEROTHS* was good, so I played the phony hook. Steve had to challenge. As a player I can't remember once said to me, you had to try it, and he had to challenge. Most appropiate here.
>Steve_Hartsman: ACELO C6 ACE +20 422
#note Tied for the best endgame.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?BEEFIR 3A F.REBIdE +74 436
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?BEEFIR -- -74 362
#note Still GIFtEE. I clearly don't know when to quit.
>Steve_Hartsman: LO M11 LO. +12 434
#note Best. Nice endgame by Steve.
>Steve_Hartsman: (BEEFIR?) +22 456
#note This game was a harbinger of things to come. I wondered if the lost spread in this game would come back to bite, but thankfully it was a mere drop in the bucket.
