>Zachary_Ansell: UX 8G XU +18 18
#note 2023 Word Cup Round 28. This was the start of a 4 game losing streak to close the tournament. the last time I played a 31 game Division 1 major (2018 Nationals), I also lost my last 4 starting with an ugly loss to Matt Canik.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AFGGHLP -FGGL +0 0
#note Surpisingly, this is best. I normally don't keep such a leave, but on these closed boards, having mid value scoring tiles that can hook U has a lot of value. Good thing I am getting better at leaves!
>Zachary_Ansell: CEIT 9F CITE +20 38
>Jonathan_Lindh: AHKOPUY 7H PHO +17 17
#note Something like 10I HAKU for 18 keeps a more flexible leave.
>Zachary_Ansell: BEW 6J WEB +29 67
>Jonathan_Lindh: ABKMNUY 5K MANKY +40 57
#note L3 KNUBBY for 42. It not only score more, it doesn't give back as much. That's an obscure 6 to spot.
>Zachary_Ansell: DHOR O4 H.DRO +48 115
#note I get hammered for missing KNUBBY.
>Jonathan_Lindh: BEOOPRU N2 BOO. +25 82
#note This does have the best static equity, but the EBOOK hook is knee knocking. I was blind to the EBOOK hook when i played this.
>Zachary_Ansell: ET 1N ET +17 132
>Jonathan_Lindh: EEPRSSU 4G RUPEES +33 115
#note This was one of the worst misses of the tournament. SULFONE, ISOTONES, and the variants of PERUSE all give me problems finding them and all three of them showed up this tournament. RUPEES seems to be the best non-bingo play at least.
>Zachary_Ansell: EZ J2 ZE. +32 164
>Jonathan_Lindh: CDGJLOS H1 CLO.D +24 139
#note Why not N8 JOG instead?
>Zachary_Ansell: AEINORS 2J .A +11 175
#note Actual rack. This is best.
>Jonathan_Lindh: GIJQSUV N8 SUQ +34 173
#note Best, especially given Zach's last play.
>Zachary_Ansell: ?EINORS 11H cRONIES +75 250
#note Post-mortem, we determined 1A FORENSIC for 80 and 1A SERMONIC for 77 were likely better but this one of the better 75 point bingos.
>Jonathan_Lindh: GIJLOTV 10J JIG +57 230
#note I think this is best given the surplus of I's in the pool.
>Zachary_Ansell: DEN 12J END +31 281
>Jonathan_Lindh: FILOTVY 13G TIVY +29 259
#note Best. I didn't think Zach would take VOLTIFY*- to infuse with electricity. I thought back to the Simpson's Hurricane Neddy episode in Season 8. "This is the room WITH electricity."
>Zachary_Ansell: DEIV 12D VIDE +18 299
>Jonathan_Lindh: AFGLOUW M1 LAW +29 288
#note Close. WAG in the same spot if I recorded my rack right.
>Zachary_Ansell: GNR E10 GR.N +10 309
>Jonathan_Lindh: AFGIORU 2F FI. +14 302
#note 2B FIGURAL for 26 is the play here. Hard word to spot. Scores 12 more and goes for the blank. FIL doesn't accomplish much of anything.
>Zachary_Ansell: ANT 14F TAN +10 319
#note This was another very ominous play from Zach like the HYOID(S) in the first early bird I had to block.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AGIORRU 15B GUIRO +9 311
#note Missed 1A OURARI for 26. Too many points to give up plus it turns over 1 more tile for a blank. GUIRO isn't bad though. Zach thought I had drawn the blank after GUIRO.
>Zachary_Ansell: AINST 14J SATIN +31 350
>Jonathan_Lindh: AAAEEER 15N AE +8 319
#note Instead I drew this garbage. At this point, I wasn't even I trying to win, I was trying to cut spread because I knew I was 100% sunk. Here I was blocking F?ST hooking SATIN. You are not misreading my rack. Playing AE at M13 for 10 is probably better because it also blocks F?ST plays while scoring 2 more points.
>Zachary_Ansell: ?AFILOT B8 FLOATIn. +76 426
#note Zach had bingos in two spots, FLOATING and 5A FOLIATED for 73. FLOATING is obviously best.
>Zachary_Ansell: (AAEELMR) +18 444
#note Final score recorded as 444-321 because I overscored MANKY by 2 points.
