#note In my mind, a PUNCHEON is a luncheon where everybody punches each other. Either way, I was very happy about this find.
>Steve_Bush: EGM 7H GEM +23 53
>Ken_Rubin: AIOUUUX C9 XU +36 161
#note I really didn't love playing XU at C9 because of the terrible leave and creating a huge opening for Steve at B9. I just thought that 36 points was too many to give up, and I was hoping that if I drew even one consonant on the next turn that I could play through the horrible leave.

>Steve_Bush: EGNST K3 GENTS +19 72
>Ken_Rubin: AIIORTU 2J RATIO +21 206
#note I liked RATIO J2 because it scores points and is more defensive than some of the other options like AGOUTI 3J and OUTA/AUTO L8. I consider OUTA/AUTO to be problematic because it leaves a big scoring opportunity for Steve playing parallel to GENTS on the L line or fronthooking an A on GENTS and playing across to hit the triple letter and double word score. I felt there was a reasonable chance Steve left an A when he played GENTS, potentially setting up a 40+ point play for himself on an upcoming turn.

#note I missed DECURION 5D. I missed a lot of high prob bingos this tournament. Bad!
>Steve_Bush: AQT 2F QAT +40 219

#note I was happy about this find. Steve held the play briefly but eventually let it go.
>Steve_Bush: GIJ B10 JIG +53 272
>Ken_Rubin: AEFINVW 4A VINE +32 327
#note It was hard to know what to do here. I wanted to score points to build the lead while also being somewhat defensive. I was worried about a Z play in the upper left quadrant. Then again, playing VINE 4A creates a Z hook going the other way. I don't mind keeping FAW at this point in the game because of scoring potential at K10 horizontal and other areas of the board. Notwithstanding any of that, maybe ANEW O1 for 39 is best because it scores the most -- not that it matters because I didn't even see the N backhook potential for RATIO.
>Steve_Bush: EIMN A4 .IMEN +30 302
>Ken_Rubin: AFHRTWZ N6 WH.Z +45 372
#note I'm very worred about a bingo on the O line starting from the C. I can potentially outrun Steve if he bingoes through the E on the 13 line because it won't score as much and may create a high-scoring counter to the triple word score on the H line. Playing WHIZ N6 doesn't block all bingoes through the C, but it makes them less likely. The other play I considered most was HERTZ 13C for 54. It's hard to argue with that, especially with scoring 9 more points than WHIZ in a game where that matters. Also, Quackle liked 5D ZARF which I didn't see or consider. Likely Quackle likes it because holding WHT allows for a high-scoring next play at N6.

Upon more reflection, I'm now thinking that WHIR N6 might actually be the best play of all, if I'm looking to be defensive. Placing the R on N9 prevents all bingos from the C and will make it impossible for Steve to set up an S hook bingo on the next turn by playing down from the C

#note Bailed out by drawing the blank. Final score doesn't reflect how close this could have been.
