>Morris_Greenberg: AEHSSVY -VY +0 0
#note I straight up missed HEAVY. This is much worse.
>Jared_Cappel: ADNORTU 8G ROTUNDA +70 70
#note Morris and I meet up for our 2nd best of 5 series. Nice tiles to start. I'm fortunate he missed HEAVY or my bingo doesn't play and this set might go very differently.
>Morris_Greenberg: AEHPSSW M7 W.P +15 15
#note I was mainly choosing between WAP 9H and this play, I thought the improved leave and reliance for an S for most good scoring for Jared next turn made this better. I didn't consider blowing up the rack with PSHAWE(D) here, but that may be worth it. It's against the style of how I like to handle these positions, but it is a good play.
>Jared_Cappel: CEEINNO I5 NEO.ENIC +62 132
>Morris_Greenberg: AEHIRSS 12G RA.HISES +78 93
>Jared_Cappel: AEEEFLT 11F FET.AL +31 163
#note Quackle says J6 FEU is 2-3 WP% better. ELATE is a better leave than EE and it only scores only two fewer.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?CDEJTU 6F JUT. +27 120
#note I doubted the validity of JU(S)TED, that's the obvious winner here. aDJU(N)CT is also a cool play, but I like scoring with J here and keeping the blank a bit more given the score.
>Jared_Cappel: ADEEEOY K5 EYE. +14 177
#note EYEN plays at 10F for 11 more points. I have to stop missing ER to YER.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?ACDELY N1 aLCAYDE +87 207
>Jared_Cappel: ADEHOPQ L2 QOPH +41 218
>Morris_Greenberg: BGMNNOO O7 BONGO +32 239
>Jared_Cappel: AADERUV 13C DRAVE +24 242
#note I spent a few minutes deciding between this and 1M VAU. Quackle thinks I chose wrong. I liked starting to close the board and not relying on a bingo. Morris told me I blocked his bingos with my play.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?AIMNTV 10E VIM +23 262
#note Things start to get tough here with VArMINT and VITAMiN blocked. I disliked how this blocked some key bingo spots that I could use, but with so many I's remaining, it felt best to take the high-equity play here and hope for the right draw.
>Jared_Cappel: ABELSUZ M11 Z.BU +30 272
#note Only one S and one ? unseen, so this is definitely best.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?AFINOT 12B FIAT +23 285
#note This was a hard turn. I have to think Jared is holding an S here, and I can't do much to block row 15. If he can't bingo along row 15, I will get hit with a 40-50 point play (if he can bingo, I can't block it unless I burn the blank with FAINTs). I disliked blocking the D here, but felt I needed the points first. Quackle slightly prefers OAF in the same spot which seems reasonable too.
>Jared_Cappel: AEIKLNS 15H LIKENS +49 321
#note I talked myself out of ALKINES, which is really bad.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?EIMNOT 11B OM +15 300
#note Quackle prefers higher equity plays here, I think this seems appropriate and Quackle likely is overoptimistic about Jared not considering board closedness on his next few turns. ONI(U)M 14J is kind of cool amongst those, and there's also something to be said about playing MI O1 blocking XI possibilities. I'd still play this, but all 3 are interesting.
>Jared_Cappel: AGIOUWX 10A WO +15 336
#note Despite having XI for 53, this sims best. I need to block and the W is a blow to his chances.
>Morris_Greenberg: ?AEGINT A7 GNA. +24 324
#note After the game, we realized how cool an option AG 9A is, it is really hard to block if Jared doesn't have A, E or S. That bingos 82% of the time next turn per Quackle (though that is likely an optimistic number given Jared's realized plays vs. top equity plays).
>Jared_Cappel: AGIIRUX O1 XI +53 389
#note Quackle prefers exchanging 6 (keeping the X) at nearly 10 percent better in win percentage. I would never think to pass up 53 points here but going into the end game with AGIRU (and more importantly, without the blank) can get me into trouble against a very strong pool...Still, for 53 points, I am surprised by this result. Even though-bomb will stay open a lot the X with no high scoring tiles unseen, when he doesn't have a bingo, he can play one tile at 5H to create a second lane and then I will struggle to block both lanes while holding the X...Would people really exchange in this situation?
>Morris_Greenberg: ?AEEIRT B6 TIE +10 334
#note This is a very tough position, and hard to evaluate. I still don't know what is right.
>Jared_Cappel: AEGIRSU 14B GI +13 402
#note For the second time this game, I've gotten the right word but the wrong placement (ala EYEN earlier). Here, I should play GI with NEG to setup my S. It forces him to use his blank as an S if he is bingoing in that spot. Drops my win percentage from 94 to 80 (per championship player).
>Morris_Greenberg: ?AEILRR 15A RIsER +25 359
#note I mistracked and thought an N was in the bag instead of a D. I thought he was bingoing all of the time here if I opened up more bingo space (in reality, 6/8 for either ADEORSTU or AENORSTU), so I concede. I don't think any play can ever win here, but I could be wrong.
>Jared_Cappel: AEORSTU H1 OUTEA. +23 425
#note N11 OSES is 1 point valuation better than this. I was happy he didn't fish one tile at 5H. I probably still win, but it would have made things more tricky for me. He was very time pressured, as would be a common theme in this set. A bit too much coffehousing on both of our parts, perhaps.
