Game 8
A personal parable as to just how f-ing hard it is to win more than half of your games against good players.
(I suck at the bureaucratic duties so some small details here are probably wrong.)
>Becky_Dyer: ABEGT C3 BEGAT +25 75
>Stefan_Kac: ADEGIOT 7F GODETIA +71 177
>Becky_Dyer: CIKNOSW M4 COWSKIN +79 154
>Stefan_Kac: DEENPTV K5 EV.DENT +44 221
>Becky_Dyer: DMU B4 MUD +27 181
>Stefan_Kac: LLNOPTW D1 PLOW +44 265
#note Mis-scored as 40, which might be a big deal.
>Becky_Dyer: AEHRT E11 HATER +30 211
>Stefan_Kac: ILNOOOT 1D .OTION +24 289
#note The first interesting choice of the game. Talked myself out of OPTION because of the scoring spot it creates at 2F but can see now that this is worth it to make it harder for bingos to reach the 2N dws. Also talked myself out of POLIO because it scores 3 less and is maybe 1% easier to hit than words ending with N. Sim likes POLIO and that seems right. It's the best leave and I should be trying to bingo myself here rather than worrying about marginal defense.
>Becky_Dyer: EGHU 15A HUGE. +30 241
>Stefan_Kac: AILLOSU I3 LOUI.S +23 312
#note Toughest turn and lots of time spent/wasted. This sims second best to E3 ALU. Because I'm a csw rookie and don't know that EVIDENTS# is a word, I see less value in my S and more value in closing the top of the board than there actually is. Sim also finds the Gibsonish 11I LO(T)US which takes out a whole heckuva lot of lanes all at once. Maybe if I had played OPTION or POLIO instead of POTION I could count on outrunning a row 2 bingo after LOTUS? But ALU does seem like the best play since there is much game and board remaining.
>Becky_Dyer: EIY 8K .I.EY +45 286
>Stefan_Kac: ?ALORTY N10 YO +26 338
#note Darn, I don't know YARTO#. YO is quite uninspiring but does have some claim to be the best play here since YARTO can go more wrong more easily.
>Becky_Dyer: AE J9 AE +10 296
#note Not at all sure of the placement here.
>Stefan_Kac: ?AFLNRT J2 FART +22 360
#note I have forgotten the rationale for this. It's not very good in any case. If I can remember ULE, then FARL is what I should have played in this spot. Probably I was not super aware of the consonant-heaviness of the pool, which I assume is why 9C F(I)RN wins the sim by 4 over FARL.
>Becky_Dyer: ?ACEERR 12G CREAsER +79 375
>Becky_Dyer: JLNOPSX (challenge) +5 380
>Stefan_Kac: ?FIILMN O11 FILMI +38 398
#note Stop me if you've heard this one: on a good day with 10 mins on my clock I might see INFIrML(Y) but with no time and being thoroughly tilted I've got no chance. Sim does like FILMI next best, but emptying the bag here against a human opp is probably just stupid.
>Becky_Dyer: JLNOPSX A1 JOLS +46 426
>Stefan_Kac: ?ANNRRV I11 R.V +10 408
#note Probably a time-desperation play.
>Becky_Dyer: NPX 9C P.X +24 450
>Stefan_Kac: ?ANNR B1 AN +17 425
>Becky_Dyer: N O7 N. +5 455
#note My scoresheet says 464-421...
>Becky_Dyer: (NR?) +4 459
