#note SWIVER* is phony, but if it were a word it would be better than any of my legitimate plays except for one: VINEW F6, which does about three points better in a sim. Even though VINEW scores five points less, the R combines with the PI to make a significantly stronger leave, and it probably helps that the S stays open, as I am likely to be winning the race to the next bingo with my PIR leave and him having seven random tiles with both blanks gone.

>David_Koenig: ADIIPRU B12 DUI +13 45
#note No T for TRIPUDIA. I definitely prefer DUI to 7H PIU because I need to keep the lines in the middle of the board open.

>David_Koenig: ALNNNRS 10B L.N. +10 149
#note I missed a great play here to clean this rack up very well: K4 ANNAL hooking LETHE. My play unfortunately still keeps a duplicate N, but everything else about it is desirable. If you're going to set up an S hook to the triple line, it makes sense to do so as soon as possible after opponent has played a lot of tiles, when he is less likely to be holding an S and other good bingo tiles for a while.

#note He hit the spot just in time.
>David_Koenig: AEEMNRS B2 RENAME +33 205
#note I think I have to do something like this. Before my play, the board is not friendly enough to bingos. My hope is not just to open the board for bingos, but alternatively if I can draw big plays with the J, Q, or X to O1 that can also get me back in the game.
>David_Whitley: AENU A1 AUNE +22 274
>David_Koenig: AAIJSXY F6 JI. +30 235
#note I thought for a while on this play. I did not love having to play here, because all of the D's and blanks are gone, so the DJIN hook is useless, and I might regret the F column opening disappearing. However, I don't think I have a better option here. It's important to keep scoring well so that by the time I get to a situation where I can bingo back I am still within a bingo range. Also, if I manage to get a very high scoring X play, I might not need to bingo to come back. It's much more likely to happen with the X rather than J.
>David_Whitley: CEILR 5H RELIC +20 294
>David_Koenig: AAOSTXY 4J ATAXY +48 283
#note Prior to his play I was just going to settle for ATAXY 15A. It was very lucky that he gave me a much better spot for the word I was already thinking about.

>David_Koenig: GIORSTV H1 VIGO. +30 313
>David_Whitley: AFHQT 2G F.QH +27 348
#note I don't know David's exact rack, but he did mention to me after the game that he also had QAT G2, which is a much better play. Bingos are unlikely, so holding onto the F and H to score in the endgame is crucial. He would have easily won the game if he had played QAT. Before you go any further, take some time to figure out how you would play the endgame.
>David_Koenig: EFIRSST H10 .IFERS +39 352
#note I was down to a very short time on my clock, so it was hard for me to generate all the possiblities and to math out this endgame correctly. I saw the out-in-two combination of LIFERS H10 39 and ST F10 20, and I recognized that I was helped by the fact that him playing OOT or OAT 3M would get hit by a harder ST 2M. However, I also saw that he could play STOA F10 to take out my highest scoring out. I considered playing F10 ST first, but I was worried he was getting too much for OOT up top without me having the row 2 overlapping outplay. I was wrong. Just going out with LIFERS would have been a three point win for me. (F10 ST is a guaranteed win for me, but it's hard to see all the possibilities with your clock winding down when he blocks LIFERS, let alone scoring the OOT/LIFERS continuation correctly.) I also thought about STIR F10 leaving EFS 3M but got worried that he might have a way to hit the X himself without leaving me a high scoring out. It turns out that TAX is a narrow win for him. (There is an improvement on that line of SRIS F10 setting up EFT G11 that is another tie.) I completely missed the simplest win for me: SIFTER 1J 44 followed by dropping the S to hook FIQHS for 22, scores well more than enough. I mathed it out enough to see that LIFERS was a tie. Though I thought there was likely to be a win, it was also possible I might go the wrong way or get an overtime penalty if I pushed for more. So I took the sure tie.
>David_Whitley: AAOOOST F10 STOA +25 373
#note Part of the reason I went the way I did, was I thought David might get greedy and just take his highest scoring play off the X, thereby losing the game, but he played it right.
