#note 29th Silicon Valley Classic
August 15, 2021
Game 14
Yesterday I was able to figure out that keeping I instead of A here is just fine, and most probably better. But today is today. At over 4000 iterations, IDS is simming 1+ better and gaining.

#note Heeeey everyone, look at me being brash and devious as we head into the home stretch of the tourney. I did see 11E ADIT immediately, and it does win the sim by a handy margin. ALT does sim a healthy 11 better than its static valuation. All beside the point. It's a long-term volatility gambit.
>Alan_Whitman: BDENO 11B BONED +24 50
>Stefan_Kac: ADHISST 12C DAHS +37 45
#note Hmm, do I know that STA(N)DISH is a word and not just a historical figure and a street in South Minneapolis? DAHS is next best, and maybe some defensivists would actually prefer it, but the bingo scores 84 and I, personally, here, should def play it if I see it. One of several such misses which prove that this seemingly unwinnable game was in fact extremely winnable, as they usually are.

>Stefan_Kac: DEILOST B13 .ED +26 71
#note Sim really luvs (Z)IT instead, but I thought opp must be brandishing something good at this point, so I was more into limiting the tws-tws potential while nonetheless proceeding to pig the points. I don't think I considered straight fishing with 7G D(O). It works somewhat against my ALT gambit, but with (FLOC)S also in play this is a very worthy fish and sims equal to my play.
>Alan_Whitman: EF A14 FE +29 109
>Stefan_Kac: IILNOST I5 OTI. +7 78
#note FML. Q finds another eight that I must have seen but now have no memory of. Otherwise LO(C)I or Exch I are the top simmers. My play is sad and frustrated.

>Stefan_Kac: DGINORU M3 ROU.ING +24 201
#note Best by far. Sim was (I suspect) previously very concerned with the (THONG)Y potential. I was not, given that opp still has not unloaded his bauble, but now it's tough to ignore.
>Alan_Whitman: EOW 8L E.OW +24 235
>Stefan_Kac: ADEIIRY 7C YA +22 223
#note Terrible spot and a wonky sim. Passing up L3 AY because it doesn't really "block," because it could give back a gift bingo as easily as it can "block" one, and because the four unseen RRs enable me to hope that the R floater isn't super useful to opp. All wrong as it turned out.

>Alan_Whitman: EX 8C EX +43 341
>Stefan_Kac: EIIRTTY 1L .ITY +27 276
#note Hmm, never even looked for longer plays to chase the blank. TY(P)IER sims 3 better. I am a fan of tile conservation at this score+bag, and here is a position where that practice can be earnestly debated. (Right alongside the weighting of spread vs. w/l in ratings!) Given that PITY does bingo ~35% against ~23% for TYPIER, I don't think TYPIER is the right play here. I need to bingo asafp, whereas pulling ?GKRU and taking another turn or two to balance is not going to do it.
>Alan_Whitman: ?EGKNRV -GKV +0 341
>Stefan_Kac: AAEIRST O7 A.AITERS +62 338
#note Figured I was cooked and should just get it over with as opp's exchange was a pretty clear signal that he already held the blank. I never have enough time left at the end to really think these through. I don't know how often a human opp leaves the W alone after I fish an A. I concluded never. But, I do actually have a solid chance of drawing into WASTERIE or WISTERIA, and if I'd seen WATERSKI too I def would have fished for it. (The K could very well have just been thrown back in the bag.) Or, if my opp is a robot or robot-trained hominid, they might play down column l and give me a nine-timer. But probably not.

#note Trying to go out first. That was dumb, it is unlikely to work. Good to know that these ridiculous endgame draws don't just happen on ISC.
>Alan_Whitman: EEGMMNV 11H VENG. +18 427
#note SK groans: great optimal find here to block my outs.
