Game 1
After a year and a half of mayhem and a total renovation in my game, with lots of anxiety and expectations, playing a chance-based game on the most infamously unlucky of dates, I just knew I would be welcomed back by something like SLANtED on my very first opponent's very first play. That was not a surprise at all. But it's after 6pm, I am barely situated, and I have to look at this bizarre rack for several minutes. I'm not 100%, but I play this anyway, it is good, and it draws a challenge.
>Emely_Weissman: DMOPQTU - +0 68
>Stefan_Kac: EEIIMOR H11 MOIRE +31 103
#note Mis-scored as 30. Q finds EMO(T)ER alongside TOWNWEAR. Sim says MOIRE is almost as good. The *defensive* value of EMOTER is pretty incredible though, whereas with less cluttery plays there are many more chances for opp to score big.
>Emely_Weissman: ADEHY J10 HEADY +49 117
>Stefan_Kac: DEHIISU L4 HIDE. +20 123
#note Missing H1 DESHI or SIDHE. If I insist on playing off EIDH I can do J3 HIED for 1 more point and set up my S. Basically I should do almost anything other than what I did.
>Emely_Weissman: CKRU 3J RUCK +33 150
>Stefan_Kac: ?INSUUX K5 XI +39 162
#note This hurts but it runs away with the sim. Any X play that's not a J5 bomb reveals quite a lot about my rack. But there are no defensible ways around that problem.
>Emely_Weissman: ACEGLN F2 GLANCE. +20 170
>Stefan_Kac: ?FNNSUU H4 FUN +14 176
#note G7 F(L)U was tempting, but sim agrees this is better.
>Emely_Weissman: BET G13 BET +19 189
>Stefan_Kac: ?ANOSUV 14E OV.. +15 191
#note FML. Sim prefers 4D OV(A) by 3. There is one fewer N than R unseen to me here, and OVA doesn't give back heavy non-bingo plays. The OVER upside, minimal as it is, is that 15A counterplays can create volatility that I want.
>Emely_Weissman: AGNTY 15A TANGY +38 227
>Stefan_Kac: ?ANNSSU E4 NU +10 201
#note Can't remember if I saw things off of RUCK. Maybe didn't like the UN-options at N1. Looking now, that seems like a mistake as those plays open up two scoring spots which we can share rather than just a straight giveback; there is also SANNUpS/SUNNAhS/SUNtANS at N3, one of which I ought to be able to spot. As it is opp can just play in the new NU spot and force me to play in column N after all, with the added drawback that I have now punted on a turn.
>Emely_Weissman: IO 2M OI +10 237
>Stefan_Kac: ?ANOOSS D3 SAlOONS +72 273
#note bASSOON is as "common" a word as any in my lexical universe and scores an extra point that I may well need.
>Emely_Weissman: BILTZ O1 BLITZ +54 291
>Stefan_Kac: AAFIMOQ C2 QI +26 299
#note Sim prefers 13C OAF or C1 FOAM. Everything gives back a lot here, so I'll take my chances with the Q dump and with this particular kind of giveback despite my negligible chances of bingoing next turn with the AAOFM leave.
>Emely_Weissman: IP 14B PI +18 309
>Stefan_Kac: AAFMORS 13B OF +27 326
#note FOAM is the play here and isn't hard to see. A large mistake, or perhaps I don't have the rack recorded quite right.
>Emely_Weissman: AEJ 8A JEA. +33 342
>Stefan_Kac: AAEEMRS 13J .AME +14 340
#note Why don't I see (BLITZ)ERS yet? Probably should cash in now, but this isn't terrible: opp can't extend BLITZ, really can't block it without giving back something worse, and can't be super well-equipped to address my set up either.
>Emely_Weissman: LOT I1 LOT +16 358
#note Something is fubar on my scoresheet at this point, so I'm not sure if this is remotely close to what was played.
>Stefan_Kac: ADERRSV O1 .....ERS +57 397
>Emely_Weissman: EGIIPRT L11 TE.PI +20 378
>Stefan_Kac: ADERUV 15K D.VER +27 424
#note 1G VA(L)UED is a bit better.
>Emely_Weissman: GIR 6A GIR. +7 385
#note Again I don't think this is what was played, but this gets us to the "right" score.
>Emely_Weissman: (AU) +4 389
