Game 1
Sim does prefer this slightly over tossing all seven.

#note Somewhere along the way early on I (mis)learned WICE#, probably from accidentally playing csw on my phone. It has been a journey of its own to unlearn words like that. I recently boned up on fours and still had to really think hard about this. This exch is fine, sim is also ok with keeping ECS or with playing ICE.

#note Sims best. Bit of a robot play here. According to Kahneman et al, humans are liable to fixate on negative events accompanied by high drama and to overlook less dramatic positive possibilities. This play is scarey since the game can be over before it started if opp lucks into a bingo here, but it's the best score, the best leave, it sets up the S, and sim likes it. This is a turn where robot opinion can be very informative.

#note Darn, CORD(I)ALS. Perhaps CLODS is also slightly better for keeping the vowel away from the dws and floating an L instead of an O as a marginal terminal bingo tile.

#note Decidedly second-best to 12A ZOAR(I)A, which I never saw. I did want to force his bingo towards the edge; ZOARIA doesn't do that, but it does open a marginal counterthreat, which is just as good, and it scores 14 more.

#note My scheduled midgame brain freeze. There's nothing good in columns l or m. I looked in column n but couldn't swing HE(E)LER, which is the star play. 4B HEL(V)E seemed too bold, but it does sim next best. My play doesn't score much, gives back a lot, blows up the rack, closes the lanes I need to come back...so HELVE def would have been better. G14 HM is uninspiring but also has much more upside than this.

#note Lots of choices are pretty close here. 13A NUS and 13B US top the sim. I assume the merit there is in opening another threat, whereas otherwise I am relying on a floating V and terminal N. I can get a coupla extra points for S(E)N or S(E)T or S(E)L at O13, but without opening anything new. Or I can do this and try to maximize synchrony with the V.
>bynak: AIOPRRS 10M OP. +23 292
#note SK observes: this is the highest-simming play that doesn't make an easier opening than already exists. Silly as it felt for me to be relying on a floating V here, the spot is not so easy to block, especially since there are no true "blocking" tiles remaining. Hence while LUV is probably a suboptimal play, maybe it's not totally crazy to expect the V to stay open.

#note NEr(V)IEST sims 1 better at both 2-ply and 4-ply depth, indicating that there is marginal value in forking the board. Or maybe it indicates that I am overthinking this. I thought INVESTED was not ideal because the resulting opening is easy for opp to hit, and if he does hit it I am not super likely to be able to come back. Sadly I am too slow with blanks and too low on time to find all of my options here, so this had to suffice.

#note Sim loves KU(D)U. I wasn't convinced. Inferring strength for opp here, I need to leave myself a lifeline. After KUDU, opp's bingo at 1A leaves me just one such option, down column a, whereas after KUE a bingo in rows one or two gives back two floaters instead of one, and leaves row 5 available. Sim be damned, this logic ends up being validated in a big way.

>kacattac: ADGINTU 13A DUG +23 335
#note Sim rather prefers NUG here. Am I wrong to infer at least one O on opp's rack after FID, setting up (FID)O plays? Apparently I am, since he didn't actually have one. There's now nothing productive I can do to mitigate row 5, so I decide to open another lane. Sim is telling me that was a (small) mistake. 13C GA(E) scores 4 more and doesn't open, but also sims 3 behind NUG. Is the U really that bad?
