>Joshua_Sokol: AILORTZ H4 ZORIL +48 48
#note the one game per tourney that I forget to write my racks has arrived

I've determined that this is the likeliest rack I am to have, since I remember thinking of TRIAZOLE or a similar word twice this tournament. This doesn't look right though
>Nicholas_Tam: AJOU 8D JOUA. +20 20
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AERSTT 5E RET.TAlS +78 126
#note This turn, I completely failed to see TRISTE(Z)A through the Z, which was yet another case of complete blindness to a bingo I looked for. I realized I had TRISTEZA right after I made my play.

I also looked for 5-way overlaps, but failed to see the only one, STARETS at I2. That's the play. I really didn't want to make an X spot, so failing to see STARETS and TRISTEZA, I could still make an effort to see RHEOSTAT, which doesn't create the X spot. #findinglarge

#note probably not my leave, but I'd like to think that I made the right play, hence ENRT
>Nicholas_Tam: ?AILNOT E7 s.LATION +64 135
#note highest-scoring bing here is 66, a 9 through RO. LATINO for 32 at 8J might be worth thinking about.
>Joshua_Sokol: AELNRST 15E SALTERN +79 240
#note wondered what the value was of leaving the 14J spot open with STERNAL vs leaving the 14F spot with SALTERN with both Y's out. The 14J spot isn't easy to use, you need {BBDDDDFFHHMMPPYY}{AE}___. The chances of him having the scoring tile are much closer to 100% than to 50%, and then an A or E, I would estimate that possibility as around 50%, perhaps more. But to then have a 5-letter word, maybe 30% of the time? So if he can only really use that spot 30% of the time for 30+, not a big deal. However, it would further open the right side, which I don't want. On the flipside, STERNAL doesn't allow an S hook with two eses out. Leaving the juicy spot for only the Y seemed fine though, since I can go under that play easily if necessary, but it also doesn't tend to reopen anything worth fussing about.

>Joshua_Sokol: EMPQRVW 10B REV.MP +21 261
#note tough turn! I somehow failed to consider 2I REV(A)MP. Not actually a tough turn now. I saw VAMP there only and hated the hook it left. #findingmedium

#note not totally sure of my leave here
>Nicholas_Tam: DEIINSS L9 INSIDES +77 259
>Joshua_Sokol: EEGGOWW F2 WOW.E +21 317
#note still not sure. I know I debated WOWEE vs WOW and decided that it was substandard to play WOWEE but that I liked it anyway to get rid of another vowel. #questionable
>Nicholas_Tam: PRU D3 URP +20 279
#note fuckin' UGH. I did not expect this nor did I like it at all, but I still let it go just cause it only scored 20. Back to my ugly ways of old.

>Nicholas_Tam: BO D12 B.O +20 299
>Joshua_Sokol: EEGH K8 GHEE +27 374
#note did not like this play since it gave back scoring and didn't block much.
>Nicholas_Tam: AY J9 AY +33 332
>Joshua_Sokol: AABIOTY 9A BAY +23 397
#note I like something like BOYA(R) B6 here since I have the last A. Therefore no risk of something coming down column A, and I can either score there next turn, or block. However there will only be 4 tiles remaining, so I wouldn't be in time to cash the spot, since a bingo would probably still win. I wanted to block the R here, but I knew stuff like DE(B) A7 would be a threat next turn, so I thought maybe I should let the spot stay. I didn't like the idea of BOY G1 since if he plays to the R he'll probably have better scoring tiles than me and I might fail to outrun, but it's possible I'm overreacting to that threat. If he plays down to the R, there is probably a decent amount of clunk in the pool and I am very likely to draw a high-point tile for next turn. I think BOY is probably best, though it allows him to fish for the D and R. In which case I have another turn to play 1, 2 or 3 tiles and try to outrun. The probably is I just don't outrun a ton of stuff from the D I think, since it could score 90 if he hits that. (D)OBY might therefore be an idea, putting me ahead 56, but then I just definitely lose if he hits a bingo after playing a few tiles. If only the M weren't in the pool, DOBY would be really nice to block the whole right side for bingos. ABATO(R) also does well in a sim, since I hit a lot of nice things on column A. I kind of like that play actually, but again, I still lose to stuff from the D next turn or the turn after quite often/
>Nicholas_Tam: EH M13 EH +21 353
#note Another problem with blocking the R is that he can just do this and I can't block the D and column N at the same time, so it gives a lot more credit to leaving everything on the board and trying to power through.
>Joshua_Sokol: AEFIOTU G3 FI. +34 431
#note now I just have this, which is pretty crushing. However, if Nicholas has (D)IRECTED or (D)ENDRITE next turn, he wins if I leave the M in the bag! Though with DENDRITE, the spread I get with sticking him with the C is almost enough to justify losing sometimes. Heh.
>Nicholas_Tam: DDEINRT B8 D.. +4 357
>Nicholas_Tam: DDEINRT -- -4 353
#note fishing the D is good here, though it falls short. The only spot to fish the D is (A)D 4L. This fish doesn't work for many reasons.
>Joshua_Sokol: ACEEMOTU N10 MOUE +16 447
#note I don't think I can infer that the C is in the bag, and I don't think he will courtesy draw if I don't challenge immediately. It's a 3. Dunno, maybe he would have. I insta-ed, but this was worth thinking about? I couldn't find a play that went out in two with the C draw. Right now I see (D)OME setting up ACUTE twice along the same file, but that's blockable. Upon further analysis, it looks like (D)OUMA O1 is the play, since with the C I draw into CETE N10 or EC(AR)TE B7. That's cool. This is decent though, since all of his plays that don't give me an out suck, and I can just play CA(B) for 21 12D (BI)OME scores 22 and leaves me with ACUTE, which is very hard to block without having played (D)OME instead. If he plays the endgame optimally after (BI)OME, I win by 95, if he doesn't, I win by 100-112 depending on what he does. After (D)OUMA, I win by only 82 if he plays optimally, which is easier to do in this endgame. I win by 81 after this play if he plays optimally. (BI)OME would be the play if I'm sure that the C is in the bag. Fun thought experiment.
