#player2 John_Karris John Karris
>Jim_Burlant: ABGNOSW 8G BOW +16 16
#note Better to keep a juicy AGNS and play for 16 than play WAGON for 26 and keep BS. The duck agrees.
>John_Karris: DILRSUY J6 DULY +21 21
#note Scores 23 at 9D but this is better due to much safer board position.
>Jim_Burlant: AAEGNST K1 AGNATES +71 87
#note This also plays at K9 and 9B for 71 and 68, and I never thought of WANTAGES I8, which also scores 71. All the choices have their liabilities defensively; I opted for this o because I thought that putting the E at 14K would be more likely to cause trouble than if I put the A at K1. Quackle agrees; this is best.
>John_Karris: ADIRRSX L1 XI +37 58
#note This is one of only 2 plays John made this game that I didn't entirely agree with - RAX L4 looks better, as it handles his rack issues better as well as scoring identically.
>Jim_Burlant: AABEIPT L4 BAP +30 117
#note I didn't see this right away, as I was looking for plays that addressed row 1 that also dealt with the B and P. A sim confirms my only row 1 play is AXITE, whose main liability is that I keep AABP. A sim agrees - this is besst. AXITE is a distant second and nothing else is worth consideration.
>John_Karris: ADRRSST M2 DRATS +32 90
#note Or TRADS in the same location. Pusihing 2000 iterations a sim still can't make up its mind if DRATS or TRADS is better.
>Jim_Burlant: AEINOTZ G8 .OTANIZE +71 188
#note Only bingo. 81% to win.
>John_Karris: ELORSUV 13F R.VULOSE +74 164
#note Nice find! This is John's only bingo. A cool honorable mention option: OVERLAX 1F scores 51 if he whiffs on the bingo.
>Jim_Burlant: EEIMPRW 15D WIP.R +42 230
#note I evaluated two plays: REWAX on row 1 for 45 and this, as it did not occur to me to even consider anything that kept the W. Quackle says my first four turns were perfect and that this was my first miss. It says I should play EPIMERE 15C or PREMIE 15D for 42, or WEEPIER 15F for 39. A sim says EPIMERE is best, PREEMIE a close second, WEEPIER as a decent 4th. This is 2 points and 2% winning chances down on WEEPIER. If you want to ding me for keeping duplicated E's, and opening up a hook for the only S on the board (I mistakenly thought RIVULOSE took the back S), ok, I get that. I don't understand why I'm supposed to keep the W here, unless Quackle thinks I'm a shoe-in to have WAX plays on row 1 on my next turn? Looking at these choices I would judge WEEPIER and PEWEE 15D as my best plays with this as a respectable bronze medalist. Probably WEEPIER if I had this to do again.
>John_Karris: AADDKLT 1H ADD.. +42 206
#note Best play for John - none of his other options score more than 23, while this scores 42. 'Nuff said. He's still only 25% to win.
>Jim_Burlant: EEELMMN 12K MEM +26 256
#note The bad habits you get into when you play on ISC - becomes easy to even play a 20-minute game as if it's a speed game. This was the first thing I saw and I never looked hard enough at the board. Which is a shame, because two slots to the left, MEME 12I unloads 2 of my 3 E's and and scores 30 to this play's 26. Definitely MEME 12I if I had this turn to do again. (-5.8)
>John_Karris: AEGIKLT 2B GLAIKET +96 302
#note TAGLIOKE also plays in the same spot, but that scores 80 to this play's 96. He's now at 64% to win.
>Jim_Burlant: EEEILNR 11J EEL +19 275
#note The only 8's in this rack are EYELINER, TREELINE, and PELERINE, which don't play. Quackle says that, with 2 R's and no L's left, I should be more worried about drawing a duplicated R than leaving the stronger EINR combo. It's a minor nit; the sim says this is a 1-pt dog to ERE 11K. I'm fine with this, even if Quackle says otherwise. 23.38% to win.
>John_Karris: EEINRTU B2 .ENITURE +61 363
#note Only bingo for John.
>Jim_Burlant: EEHINOR C7 HEROINE +94 369
#note This also plays at A9 for 88; this scores 94 and is best. Back in the game at 40.6% to win.
>John_Karris: ?AFGTVY 8A G..Y +36 399
#note Best plays for John would have been TREYF 8A for 45 and TREFA.
>Jim_Burlant: AEFHOSU D1 H.AF +28 397
#note Less worried about grooming the rack and more conderned about big premium tile plays like JAVA D1 than rack building. Seeing that I had the case S, I wanted to limit lbingo to those that would require an S hook. I could have done a smidgen better on this turn: FAH 3H would have scored 33 and accomplished the same defensive goals I just described. And HAO 1D would have done almost as much defensively while doing a much better job of playing the tile bag with its 3 unseen o's. My play isn't awful by any stretch (it's a B or maybe a B+ play, but not an A play), but it is a 4-1/2-pt mistake in Quackle's eyes, and I agree with that assessment. That said, even if the execution wasn't as good as it could have been, John commented at the time that I blocked a huge play with this.
>John_Karris: ?AFIJTV 3F AFT +28 427
>Jim_Burlant: CEOOOSU 1D .OO +15 412
#note All I could see was trying to dump the O's and keep some semblance of balance; Quackle wants me to play COO N10 for 19. I don't buy that - I've got an E and an S, and I don't want MEM hooks to go away unless they open something up for me down the O column. This is second best at a huge equity deficit. Quackle notwithstanding, I'd make this play again.
>John_Karris: ?IIJNOV 12A JI.N +38 465
#note Quackle wants him to play JINNI to defend against bingos down the E column. That's a tough spot if you're John, because what's the more probable threat? A bingo down the E column with the S in 4th position? Or a Q bomb for 46 in the middle of a close game? If he plays JINNI instead of JINN, if I've got QU in my rack he's given me QUA for 46 instead of 24, which could potentially win the game for me. Regardless of whether you think he should have played JINN or JINNI, the tile bag rendered it a moot point:
>Jim_Burlant: ?CEORSU N7 COURSEs +79 491
#note Was so fixated on the mem hooks that I preserved that I slapped this down without looking at the board more closely. If I had, I'd have seen that I could have scored 91 instead of 79 by playing CLOSURE E5. At any rate, why this nonsense? I confused RIVULOSE, which does not take the back S, with RIBULOSE, which does. Whoops. And this, being ISC, I didn't pay attention to the fact that I'd typed the first S and wasted the blank on the back hook. All I did here was shortchange myself a bunch of points; kind of a shame the game had to detour like this given how well we had both played to this point. The consolation: with the C being the final tile in the bag and John in possession of the case blank, I was out of luck even if I did play for 91 with CLOSURE.
>John_Karris: ?IINOQV E11 QI +34 499

#note Hey, why isn't this good - wasn't there a tv show called The OC a few years back? ;-)
>John_Karris: ?INOV A12 .IVe +39 538
