>Josh: ?AENOPR H4 PROpANE +72 72
>Mack: DEGIRUU I8 GURU +14 14
#note Sacrificing some equity over PUDGIER to open up an S hook that could prove extremely annoying to block down the road. Quackle likes it a lot.
>Josh: CGHOO J5 COHOG +21 93
>Mack: CDEIIJM 6D EJID. +15 29
#note A rather bizarre play, sacrificing a lot of equity over JEER or either JIMP. I just couldn't stomach the CDIIM leave after JEER, and also didn't like that JEER invited underlaps that block the GURUS hook. EJIDO does a much better job keeping the left hand side open in the long term and floats an E that's not too easy to block without giving back a new lane. DIME(R)I(C) is another option I missed, but I prefer getting rid of the J ASAP since bingoing quickly is of paramount importance. I'm still fine with EJIDO, but Josh preferred JEER and Quackle agrees with him by a decent margin, so I'll call this a #strategysmall.
>Josh: EEHNT D3 ETH.NE +20 113
>Mack: CIILMOY 8A COM.LY +39 68
#note LIMEY is also an option to avoid keeping duplicate Is, but CIO isn't exactly a great leave either and 9 points is a lot to give up when I'm already down a big bingo. The C is also a much better tile to put at 8A than the L for facilitating my comeback.
>Josh: FIU 5J .UIF +18 131
>Mack: AIINNRW E8 .AWIN +16 84
#note Oof. I really thought this was good. Guess I confused LAWING and RAWIN.
>Josh: EEIMOPS 13B EPISOME +87 218
#note I didn't even hold here since I was so sure LAWINS was good. Lol. #knowledgelarge
>Mack: AGILNRT L2 TRA.LING +70 154

>Mack: AEFILTW H12 W.FT +42 282
#note Clearly can't risk stuff like 14F WIFE or FEW - this is fine.
>Josh: ANSV B10 VAN.S +32 309

#note It looks like I may have gotten too cute here. The idea is obviously to set up the X while blocking bingos from the T. I figured if Josh doesn't bingo immediately I should be able to block everything on the right with a play to the E or with CUIFS next turn and seal the game. If he does bingo immediately, I should win with AX as long as he doesn't draw an out, which is by no means likely with a 4-tile draw. The main other option I considered is 6L LAX, blocking CUIFS bingos and saving 1M BAY for next turn, but that seemed to lose to most bingos from the T since they score even more than bingos with CUIFS. Interestingly, champ hates both YAR and LAX, going with F1 BUSY or F1 AYS, claiming they each win around 90% while LAX and YAR have win percentages in the 60s. I'm not sure I get why AYS is materially better than YAR, but it seems the idea with BUSY is that I often draw stuff like AXEL/AXAL/AXON at 15L which should outrun CUIFS bingos even if Josh draws an out (whereas YAR loses in this scenario). If I don't draw one of these and have to settle for just 15N AX I'll probably still lose, but it's quite unlikely that Josh bingos AND draws an out AND I miss all those fours. Plus I'm not really seeing any situations where YAR wins and BUSY doesn't since both block the T, so it definitely seems BUSY is the play. Lesson learned: always look for setups and unorthodox ideas, but don't get overly enamored of them and forget to consider more standard approaches just as seriously. #preendgamemedium
