Player 1
#player1 Carl Carl Johnson
#player2 Alec Alec Sjoholm
>Carl: DEMTUWW 8G WUD +14 14
#note It's after lunch now, and I've had some time to regroup. This was probably my best game of the day. This and the next two were all played at Table 1.
>Alec: ?FGSSTT H7 T.FT +7 7
#note ?GSS > ?SSTT and TUFT sets up my S's on a DWS lane, but Quackle prefers FUG, likely because it reduces Carl's scoring potential by not offering a floater. #tacticssmall
>Carl: EMNORTW 10H .OWN +15 29
#note I missed TWOFER here, but TOWN is about is good. #visionsmall
>Alec: ?AGSSVY L10 YAGS +27 34
#note C: I nearly challenged TOWNY! I held for more than a minute, and even had my hand over the clock, but decided that with all the other words I'd held today, it was likely enough that TOWNY was acceptable. Besides which, I had a good play coming back. This wasn't the time for an uncertain challenge.
>Carl: AEGMMRT K5 MARGE.T +44 73
#note I figured this would be better than GARMENT because the M is more dangerous at K8, but that's not true with both Hs unseen. (-2) #strategysmall
>Alec: ?AEERSV 13F cREVAS.E +80 114
>Carl: AMNOOQY 11D MOONY +31 104
#note I was going to do MAYO JF, but this has to be right, taking out H12.
>Alec: DELNNPT 10C PEND +24 138
#note 10C LEND is best. Also, PEND scores 1 more at N10 but I didn't know cREVASSED. #strategysmall
>Carl: AAEEIQZ J6 ZA +64 168
#note It's almost better to play QI L4 here. The Z is a great tile on this board even if he takes out J6. I considered it but decided to take the 64 points. I'll have QAT or QI next turn.
>Alec: GHILNTV L4 VIG +31 169
>Carl: AEEIQRT 7F QA. +19 187
#note Best play here is sick: EREMITE D8, setting up a likely QI C12 for next turn. QAT isn't awful, but you can see that EEIRT is a terrible leave against that pool. (-6) #visionmedium
>Alec: HJLNOOT 12C JOT +33 202
>Carl: EEEIIRT -EEII +0 187
#note Without JOT, EREMITE would again be the correct play. This time, it's more obvious and I did see it. Now I have to exchange.
>Alec: HIILNNO 13B LO +22 224
#note Quackle prefers C12 JOIN. It seems reckless but its leave is significantly better, and I may get plays at 14B with my H next turn. #strategysmall
>Carl: EFIRSTU 8K .RIEF +30 217
#note FIE 14A is best here. I considered stuff like that, but GRIEF seemed better because it scored more and didn't give back parallel plays. (-3) #strategysmall
>Alec: EHIIINN N7 H.INIE +11 235
#note Quackle prefers N3 HEINIE--I don't know why--and 14A HIE which scores but keeps IINN, opens row 15, and doesn't block columns N and O. #tacticssmall but...
>Carl: EHLSSTU B4 SLEUTHS +74 291
#note A: ...by playing N7 HEINIE I blocked O8 FLUSHEST for 104! When I played PEND I wasn't aware of the S-hook, only the U.
#note C: Earlier, Josh blocked SUNPORCH for 104, and now Alec has blocked FLUSHEST for the same score. All the bingos sim about the same here.
>Alec: ?DINNOU 4B .OUNDINg +68 303
#note If only this was CSW, then O8 FOUNDINg would score 100.
>Carl: CEEIKOT 3F OKE +28 319
#note At the time, I was really conflicted about this play. I saw that if Alec hit a big -IC word at 2B, I was in a lot of trouble, but I also figured I was substantially more likely to hit the spot. I also considered KOINE at H1, which wins the sim. -2 #strategysmall
>Alec: BCEIIRU 2B UREIC +38 341
#note C: Crud!
>Carl: AACEILT O12 LAIC +24 343
#note You cannot trust the sim here. Fishing off the A will make Alec block 2H at all costs. LAIC is probably right; there's nothing good to play parallel to JO, and the game will probably come down to who gets the X.
>Alec: AABBEIP 14A BIB +30 371
#note Quackle picks 14A BABA and 14A BABE. My best chance of winning depends on me drawing the X (I'm not expecting to draw a bingo), and BABA and BABE turn over 4 tiles, empty the bag, and save 14J XI. They also increase Carl's chance of having a bingo, providing a lane for sevens starting with L or R on row 15--and BABA permits A or E as well. I chose BIB because it allows fewer bingos, allows me to play another turn after a bingo, and saves 8A ATAP--although I should really be concerned about the X. BIB saves AXE at 1A and A6. #tacticsmedium
>Carl: ADEORTX 1A AXED +58 401
#note This play does not win the sim, but that seems to be a glitch. AXED wins no matter what tile is in the bag and wins by more than sim-winner OXER.
>Alec: AAEEILP 8A E.APE +30 401
>Carl: ORRT 2H TORR +9 410
#note This game took a lot out of me. Round 13 will be even more intense, leaving me exhausted by Round 14.
>Carl: (AIL) +6 416
