#note I hated burning the O, but this seemed to clear up the rack best. You could make a strong case for HOMIE 11D (which I didn't see). It scores 11 points less but doesn't make it easy to score with an S, all four of which are unseen. These two plays sim even.
>Thomas_R: KOR 1M KOR +30 274
>Carl: DEEINOU 13C UN..ED +16 265
#note When I was inputting this into Quackle, this seemed like a terrible play. It isn't even one of Quackle's initial choices. However, it sims decently. The bag is consonant heavy, so I figure to be able to use column H more easily than Thomas. Also, UNITED takes out column D. I remember considering sim-winner AEDINE O10, but the strategic benefits of UNITED seemed stronger. In practice, AEDINE has to be right. Thomas has many uses for the S, not just D12. OU isn't that bad of a leave with that consonant heavy pool, especially with the Q unseen. (-5) #strategymedium

>Thomas_R: NW 4D ..WN +10 297
>Carl: CEEEIRS H1 RECS +33 322
#note CEES is wrong; EEI is a better leave than REI with that congested pool.
>Thomas_R: GRR D9 GRR +9 306
>Carl: DEEIOTX 12H .XIDE +26 348
#note A moment of truth! I figured Thomas probably didn't have the Z when he played GRR, which means there's a 40% chance that it's still in the bag. There might be something to be said for just OX, leaving one in the bag. But that didn't seem right either, because now I'm not scoring and figure to lose in a bingo-less endgame. AGNIZE or something down column O is particularly bad. If I "block" with AX O10, then he has AXENIC, or a strong play forming AXE. But if he bingos and draws the Z (a 20% chance) he's stuck with it. Thomas also said that he might have forgone the bingo in that case, fishing 1, giving himself a bingo in two places. There really isn't a clear best play here. I just have to hope that he doesn't have the bingo.
