#note Wowzer. This is some opening rack. My play is a smidge behind FOX in the same spot, although my play doesn't give up the Y hook unlike FOX. The only problem is opening plays like this are paralleled fairly often. It would prove to bite me in the rear end in this case. But I needed to score immediately.
>Diane_Firstman: MUY 9H YUM +24 24
>Samuel_Kaplan: DDKORRV -DDKORRV +0 26
#note Yucky draw. I suppose I could do KOR 7F but Diane has a tendency to play very defensively against me. Nothing against her, it's just my observation in our brief tourney history. DDRV is absolutely gross on this board. Yes the DRAY hook would exist after KOR but she could hook RAY herself.
>Diane_Firstman: CGI 7F CIG +20 44
>Samuel_Kaplan: IOORSTT F4 OTI. +8 34
#note OOT 10J, MOOT J9, or my play of F4 OTIC? This board was immediately becoming ugly and I felt that OOT would be easily underlapped. MOOTS* is not good so I passed that up. My options in general were not very good here. Gotta love playing on a staircase board early on but that's part of the game sometimes. The S was only really useful for the GAYS hook so far.
>Diane_Firstman: ALUW 3C WAUL +21 65
>Samuel_Kaplan: AOOPRST 4A POOR +27 61
#note Did not know TAPROOTS. My play is 2nd best.
>Diane_Firstman: AENRT A4 .ARENT +24 89
>Samuel_Kaplan: ALPQSTW 2A QAT +30 91
#note The tile bag has not been very nice to me this game thus far. Best play despite a not great leave.
>Diane_Firstman: AEEIY B8 AIYEE +20 109
>Samuel_Kaplan: LPRRRSW -LPRRW +0 91
#note It is extremely frustrating to not be able to take advantage of the hotspot that has just been given to me. I saw PEWS 12A but LRRR as a leave? You gotta be kidding me. I did make the best play though.
>Diane_Firstman: EEZ C7 ZEE +30 139
>Samuel_Kaplan: EEENRST A12 RETE +18 109
#note Missed my spot for RETENES. . Straight up terrible play.
>Diane_Firstman: GIM 10J MIG +24 163
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEJNOSS M10 SOJA +29 138
#note 11K SOJA is too aggressive, didn't like what it gave back. This is 2nd best.
>Diane_Firstman: DHOT N11 DOTH +30 193
#note This is a nice defensive play by Diane. I give her credit for this one.
>Samuel_Kaplan: AEENRSU O8 UREA +16 154
#note Meh. I needed another lane open. I can't just allow Diane to close the left side of the board as she has been doing this all game.
>Diane_Firstman: HNOP C12 PHON +23 216
#note Nice play again. The TIE hooks are gone and I'm glad I still have the lanes in LOTIC and Column N still available.
>Samuel_Kaplan: CEGLLNS -CGLL +0 154
#note Did not know INGLE. That's the play at K10.
>Diane_Firstman: BEERSV 4F .BVERSE +32 248
>Samuel_Kaplan: EFNNSTW D12 SEW +34 188
#note Absolutely sickening when I draw consonants after exchanging consonants. Feels like I just threw a turn away. WEFT 3L is the play, it actually gives a decent lane to use to bingo.
>Diane_Firstman: DDO 5K ODD +17 265
>Samuel_Kaplan: CFIKNNT 3L FINK +29 217
#note Finally I make a decent play. This time, should Diane play through the K, I will get a lane back. She very smartly places an I at O1 to make it hard to bingo.
>Diane_Firstman: AIL O1 IL.A +27 292
#note See what I mean?
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?CINOTU 13C ..N +6 223
#note CUT D5 according to Q, I needed a lane at the bottom. I can hit a bingo with a couple of the tiles.
>Diane_Firstman: ABD N1 BA.D +25 317
>Samuel_Kaplan: ?CIIOTU I1 CUT. +7 230
#note I drew one of the only tiles I DIDN'T need once again. At this point I already lost the game, I needed a bingo lane to cut spread.
>Diane_Firstman: EILR 1E RELI. +21 338
>Samuel_Kaplan: ??IIOSV F9 VISItOr +68 298
#note I did not see VIgOrIS(H) 14G which would have been a sick find. dIVISOr would have been 1 point better.

This game did have some very clunky draws but I also shot myself in the foot with some plays. Credit to Diane for several great defensive plays she made and for continuing to severely limit what I can do. Score was recorded as 341-307.
