>Jack_Overby: AEHINOR 8G HAO +12 12
#note Waffled between this and 8D HEROIN 26. Based on sim, looks like I mad the wrong choice. HEROIN and HERNIA are 1-2% ahead.
>Marty_Gabriel: DILW 9F WILD +24 24
>Jack_Overby: AEEINNR 10F EN +17 29
#note This felt like an equity bot play, with a bad downside if I missed my fish, but, as I sensed at the time, nothing else is any better. Per sim, this is tops.
>Marty_Gabriel: EFTTY 11D FYTTE +35 59
#note Nice play and fit by Marty.
>Jack_Overby: AEEIMNR 12A MINAE +35 64
#note Another "equity bot" play that sims comfortably better than anything else.
>Marty_Gabriel: CRTU H11 .RUCT +24 83
>Jack_Overby: AEINRTT 14B INTERA.T +74 138
#note I contemplated A7 INTERMAT 80 for about a minute, but didn't quite have the stones to set up the giant S-hook, with all 4 S's unplayed. According to the sim, though, I should have gone for it. My play is 1-2% back. Whatever, I'm fine with it.
>Marty_Gabriel: DIIO A8 IDIO. +24 107
>Jack_Overby: EELPPSV J10 VEEPS +33 171
#note I spent a while flip-flopping between 7I PEP 19 and 9A DEV 11, before (thankfully) noticing this spot. Oftentimes, I'm too reluctant to "burn" S's for non-bingos. The top 6 simming plays all use the S. This is best.
>Marty_Gabriel: ACTX 11J .XACT +28 135
#note Quite the ballsy play by Marty! The chances of me having one of the outstanding A's or S's is pretty high. As it turns out...
>Jack_Overby: BEILNPR L8 PIB.L +24 195
#note ...I didn't! Nice calculated gamble on his part. I figured I'd just take the standard equity play and hope he either couldn't hit lane O too hard or that I'd draw into a bingo with my decent leave. As it turns out, this was a midsized error. 10E BEN 13 and N10 PTERIN 28 sim 2-3% ahead of this. I'd likely have played PTERIN had I seen it.
>Marty_Gabriel: ?AJMO O8 JOrAM +63 198
#note Interesting play! Not sure of his other two letters, but surely there was a non-blank play he could have made? Maybe not.
>Jack_Overby: EEGILNR N9 LE. +10 205
#note Spent a loooonnnngggg time on this move. I pretty much "tanked" and just threw down the top equity play. The problem, which even I realized at the time, is that , as good as a leave as EGINR is in a vacuum... there are hardly any good bingo lines on the board, and nothing that fits an -ING bingo... such as, for instance, LEERING/REELING. Furthermore, given the fishy nature of my play, Marty would be unlikely to open a new line for me. As it is, this is 3rd, but the top two plays are far better: M7 GENIC 22 and, in 1st place, the brilliant H6 LEAL 4, which keeps my great leave and sets up the I/LEAL hook with only 2 I's unseen! I'd have played that in a hummingbird's heartbeat if I'd seen it. What a cool play!
>Marty_Gabriel: BGRU K6 GRUB +15 213
#note As expected, Marty keeps the board tight. This is much better than 7H GRUB 17, which would give me the nice E/GAL hook.
>Jack_Overby: EGGIKNR 10E K.. +17 222
#note Chickened out of 6H KEGGING 22, which I'd have played, had I been sure of it. Once again, this top equity play is much weaker than normal, given the board dynamics. KEGGING is about 3% better.
>Marty_Gabriel: AIRRU L2 URARI +13 226
>Jack_Overby: EGGHINR 3I HER.ING +30 252
#note At this point, I was sick of EGINR, so I blew the rack up and hoped for blanks/S's. However, given Marty's opening, it looks like I should have opted for rack grooming; HUGE/UGH/HUG on row 2 all sim better. E/GINR becomes a lot stronger with that floating A. Another misstep.
>Marty_Gabriel: LOY O1 LO.Y +36 262
>Jack_Overby: ?EEGOQW 2I EW +31 283
#note Surprisingly, exchanging sims better than this. Really? Giving up 31 points in a tight game? I guess the Q is really hard to play on this board, so it's a huge encumbrance to my rack and bingo chances. Whatever; I'd make this play again. Row 1 is virtually unusable to Marty, as only the F hooks onto it.
>Marty_Gabriel: AAV M11 .AVA +20 282
>Jack_Overby: ?AEEGOQ B6 QAt +32 315
#note Again, exchanging sims better, and I can see why. However, this puts me up by 33 and leaves Marty virtually no chance at a bingo. Plus, 10/15 of the pool is consonants, so EEGO has a good chance of balancing out. But it really looks like I should have exchanged. I have a great chance at bingoing if I do. Frankly, I didn't have the cojones to pass up 32 points in a close game. This seemed "safer".
>Marty_Gabriel: OZ 7B .ZO +22 304
>Jack_Overby: EEGNOOS E5 GONE +23 338
#note I'm not skilled enough to iterate through a 2-in-the-bag pre-endgame, much less 3, and likely never will be. Shit, who is, aside from the two-time French national champion? Regardless, assuming Quackle is trustworthy, this sims second best: 80.61%, vs 82.12% for 1J EGO 18. It feel like the only way I can lose is by (1) giving up an -IES bingo, of which the pool contains three (FUDDIES, NODDIES and SODDIES), or (2) a giant -IFS play (DIFS or IFS). At the time, this felt as good as anything, and it pretty much was.
>Marty_Gabriel: DDEINOU F5 OD +17 321
#note F2 UNDID 23 is 4 better, as it guarantees him myriad outs, but against the Endgame Emperor (SARCASM) this worked out fine.
>Jack_Overby: EFOSSS F3 FE..S +23 361
#note Beyond awful. I knew it was bad when I played it, but I was nowhere near 100% certain on CAVAS, otherwise I'd have played 15K FOSSE 37, which is 4 points behind two plays. Can you find them?
>Marty_Gabriel: DEINU D1 NUDIE +18 339
#note Answer from last slide: D1 FOSSE 28, which blocks NUDIE/UNDIE and leaves an S to plunk down somewhere, and... G4 SOS 11, which leaves F3 FEODS 25 on the next turn, which isn't worth blocking to Marty. Now that's some Nigellian sheeit!
>Marty_Gabriel: (OSS) +6 345
#note I felt like I'd completely butchered this game at the time, but with the exception of FEODS (at which point the game was already in hand, else I'd have "risked" FOSSE/CAVAS), I played fine, especially given my time trouble (finished with a mere :07). Still have room for improvement, as always- which is a good thing!
