>Marty_Gabriel: LTUZ 8G LUTZ +26 26
#note Thanks to Darin's nailbiting win over Marty in Round 6, this game was for the title!
>Jack_Overby: ADEGSSX J8 .AX +35 35
#note I briefly contemplated 9G AGED 19 to give me a great shot at drawing into a big X-play at 10J. However, he could easily block, plus the 8L spot would likely yield 40+ points. Given these downsides, 16 points seemed like a lot to give up, and sim agrees. AGED is competitive, though. Actually, 9J AG/S sim even better, as they guarantee me an X-play (DEX), though it's even more likely he'd block. Regardless, ZAX sims best.
>Marty_Gabriel: AEINORR K9 AIR +17 43
#note Actual rack. Sims best.
>Jack_Overby: ADEGOSS L3 SEADOGS +75 110
#note What a two-tile pickup! Surprisingly, Marty held for about a minute.
>Marty_Gabriel: EENNOPR 4E NEOPREN. +63 106
#note Nice find.
>Jack_Overby: EGIIIOQ E2 GE.II +12 122
#note I never really considered exchanging. If not an exchange, this or 2M QI are the only plays. After many iterations, this settles in 3rd place, behind QI and exchanging all but E. I like the play, though, as it clears my rack of junk while leaving me guaranteed places to dump QI for more than 20 points. Plus, it might misrepresent my range to Marty, which is always a good thing, right?
>Marty_Gabriel: AABCKRY F8 KAY +36 142
#note Actual rack. He missed 3B BAKERY 49; not the last time that spot would give him trouble. This turned out to be a big break for me...
>Jack_Overby: BEHIOPQ 11E QOPH +47 169
#note Though D5 QOPH 35 would have been fine, this is even finer! Between the 13 points Marty gave up by missing BAKERY, and the 12 points I gained from the KAY/O hook, this ended up being a 25-point swing in my favor.
>Marty_Gabriel: DEF 5J DE.F +23 165
#note Passing up M5 DEF 26 for 3 more points; for defensive purposes, perhaps?
>Jack_Overby: ABEEINV H11 .AVEN +36 205
#note Missed HEAVE and didn't know HEVEA. Both are better, as are H1 VEEP 27 and 8L GAVE 24, apparently.
>Marty_Gabriel: ABDRV 3A BRAV.D +27 192
#note Another board vision hiccup by Marty, as ADVERB with the same letters scores 12 more. Once again, this mistake was very helpful to me.
>Jack_Overby: BEEILNT A1 BI.LE +30 235
#note Bad miss of A1 NIBBLE 39- this is 2nd best, 4-5% behind.
>Marty_Gabriel: DNUY 12J UNDY +20 212
>Jack_Overby: EINOTTU 8L .OUT +15 250
#note Another poorish move; I chickened out on H1 TOUPIE 24 (I knew TOUPIES/PITEOUS but wasn't sure of the singular form) and missed E9 TOQUE/T. Not a huge mistake, though, as all three sim fairly evenly.
>Marty_Gabriel: CI J2 IC.. +9 221
#note Marty rued having played this instead of H1 CRIP 24. Not sure of the rest of his rack, but surely that would have been better for him.
>Jack_Overby: AEINOTW H1 TAW.IE +33 283
#note Best by far.
>Marty_Gabriel: AFT B2 F.AT +28 249
>Jack_Overby: ?CEGNOR 14B CONGEn.R +74 357
#note Missed 14A CONVERGE and 15H EROGENIC for the same score, but was about 99% sure this was good, and thought it might draw a desperation challenge, as it certainly doesn't look like a word...
>Marty_Gabriel: AEILMR - +0 249
#note Indeed it did! Heart was pounding, but what a joy to see the green screen. Game, set, match!
>Jack_Overby: ?HMNOTU N6 MO.TH +24 381
#note Pretty much any valid play is a guaranteed win here. Given my lead, I probably could have played something fishier in the hopes of getting down another bingo; 15C MUON 19 keeps the H hook for 5C ET/H and keeps column O open. However, I figured this would seal up the game (and tournament!).
>Marty_Gabriel: AEILMR 1J REMAIL +41 290
#note Hey, at least Marty got to use his hook!
>Jack_Overby: ?IIJNOU 13C JO +38 419
#note I briefly looked for some way to fish into a bingo, but c'mon, just take the damn win! This gives me a good chance of drawing into a lucrative 3-letter play at 12D, since I hold both case I's.
>Marty_Gabriel: ELORSST O10 OSTLER +26 316
#note Co-best play; best sequences are his last two plays in either order.
>Jack_Overby: ?EIINUW 12D WIs +44 463
#note Pathetically, I was only about 99% sure on WIS, but figured I'd take the "risk", with the game and tourney in hand.
>Marty_Gabriel: S 11E ....S +19 335
#note Best.
>Marty_Gabriel: (EINU) +8 343
#note Looks like I played this one pretty well, with only a few slight mistakes (GOUT, BIBLE). Still, the MVP of the game was the Tile Gods, who gifted me almost all the good tiles at the right time. Despite a few rough games/turns, I played solidly overall; I still need to work on actually learning, you know, words. Regardless, I'll take it!

Thanks to Marty for putting on a great tournament and event! Beer, wine and chicken tinga tacos should be served at every tourney!
