Player 1
#player1 Jonathan_Lindh Jonathan Lindh
#player2 Jack_Overby Jack Overby
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEIIJRW 8H AJI +20 20
#note JL: Game 3 of the Chicago Literacy tournament. Best play but this did not work out at all.

JRO: Cleary, Jon should have foreseen my opening bingo draw.
>Jack_Overby: DEELPRS K2 PEDLERS +81 81
#note JL: Best play!

JRO: You can't teach these kinds of tile management skills just anywhere, you know.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEIIIRW L1 WIRE +34 54
#note JL: Best play!
>Jack_Overby: AEEEFTW M1 EEEW +37 118
#note JRO: Best. The first of likely many times using this word/transcription of vomit.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AABEIIO -EEIIUU +0 54
#note JL: Not playing through this! This seems right.
>Jack_Overby: AEFNTUV J6 FA.NT +33 151
#note JRO: Not great. I considered 1L WEFT 30, which looks better. Apparently 6G FAUVE 19 is best, which makes sense, as it preserves a good leave and keeps the board tight.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ENNOSTX 9G EXO. +32 86
#note JL: I miss a lower scoring bingo which I know: NONTAXES for 66. I am still 31 behind with Jack to play but yeah, this was dumb. -31.4

JRO: Dodged one here! Apparently Jon didn't read rule #3: Don't miss bingos!
>Jack_Overby: DELUUVY 10E LUDE +20 171
#note JL: This play kills the board.

JRO: That was precisely my goal, with this terrible rack! Should have done YULE for 21 in this spot, though (missed it).
>Jonathan_Lindh: NNRRSTT 1L ..NT +21 107
#note JL: WERT? Trade 3 or 4? I dunno. This ranks pretty well.
>Jack_Overby: AIOTUVY E7 OVA.ITY +26 197
#note JRO: Slightly worse than E7 VAULTY 24, which I missed, and definitely would have played instead! I've only seen that word in its comparative, higher-probability form.
>Jonathan_Lindh: NRRSTTU 13A RUNT. +16 123
#note JL: Best again it looks like.

JRO: According to Quackle, 13C TRY 12 and H7 TAXER 12 are up there. I like TAXER!
>Jack_Overby: ?GIIKRU D11 KI. +24 221
#note JL: Actual rack. Jack missed C7 QUIRKING for 63 here. Jack's play was second best. -14.1

JRO: Indeed I did. For a missed bingo, this is about as minimally damaging as can be, but alas, still a miss. Rule #3!
>Jonathan_Lindh: CNNRSSY 11J SCRY +27 150
#note JL: I immediately saw my screwup right after I hot my clock. SYNC is my play! This silly play postponed my bingo for two more turns. -7.9.
>Jack_Overby: ?EGGIRU A6 GRUnGIE. +80 301
#note JL: All of the bingos are 80.

JRO: All of the *good* bingos. Could have plunked down (B/F/H/M/P/V)UGGIER for 64 at F1. My outstanding tile management continues!
>Jonathan_Lindh: AACINNS 14B NA +10 160
#note JL: Now I have to make a super aggressive opening because I missed SYNC and now the anagrams of CARINAS won't play which is what I would be playing. Even after the bingo I would still be down by 80 so this game is probably a lost cause.

JRO: I kinda like M10 CYAN 18, but nothing wrong with hyperaggression at this score.
>Jack_Overby: ABMOOOR D4 BOOM +20 321
#note JRO: Crap play. Didn't see L9 BARROOM 28 or B2 BROMO 27. M9 BOYAR 26 and 15C BOO 12, both of which I considered, sim best. I wanted to leave a good spot for a counterplay in case Jon hit his bingo. Anything reasonably is >99% at this point, though.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AACGINS M11 .AG +14 174
#note JL: Still no bingo. I really like this play.

JRO: L10 ARC 10 seems good, and keeps a better leave, but same idea.
>Jack_Overby: ADHILOR 15C HOLARD +39 360
#note JRO: I turned down 14J HALID 42 for obvious reasons, but should have seen HALOID/HAIRDO at this spot instead, both of which have slightly better leaves. The one good thing about this is that it opens a Z-spot which I'm more likely to get than Jon, since based on Matsumotoan range finding, there's almost no way Jon had a Z on his last turn.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ACDEINS 14H INCASED +93 267
#note JL: Best play! INCASED still fits.

JRO: Excellent fit by Jon! I refrained from complimenting because I'm trying to develop a more intimidating Scrabble persona and don't want to ease my opponents' nerves by showering them with praise.

Who am I kidding... just say "Nice play", ya jackass!
>Jack_Overby: ?HIOOPZ E3 ZIP +40 400
#note JRO: He blocked my giant Z spot! This sort of outcome was what I was envisioning when I played BOOM. Now, the board is totally blocked for bingos...
>Jonathan_Lindh: AFMOTUV F2 VAT +30 297
#note JL: Best play!
>Jack_Overby: ?EHIOOS B2 HOOdIES +81 481
#note JL: Best along with HOOkIES.

JRO: Sike! As planned, I drew the exact IES ending I needed for bingos. A fitting end to a charmed game.
>Jonathan_Lindh: EFMNOTU L9 FO.M +26 323
#note JL: The best endgame is A1 FONT saving EMU. I checked out of it by this point and was happy enough with an out in two. -12.

JRO: Never check out, Jon! Spread always matters!
>Jack_Overby: ABILQ H12 QA.. +24 505
#note JL: Second best play. Jack also missed a play in the endgame. F6 QI for 36. -12.

JRO: *hangs head in shame* Hey Jon, how does it feel to lose by 160 to a guy who doesn't even know his 3s?
>Jonathan_Lindh: ENTU M6 TUNE +12 335
#note JL: This is a best play at least.
>Jonathan_Lindh: (BIL) +10 345
#note JL: Over half of my lost equity was from the NONTAXES miss which would have given me a shot. SCRY was suboptimal but the game was probably lost at that point anyway. This game was the first game with correctly recorded scores. Shortly before I headed to lunch with some people, Steve Hartsman gave me a puzzle to find the winning play off a rack with AEOLRST. I eventually found CROTALES, but it took me 3-4 minutes or so UGH. It was that type of day.

JRO: I didn't even know CROTALES. Or MOI. Ah well. Le roi de la chance, c'est moi!
