#note Lots of close choices, but I'm ok with this. Definitely spent some time here.

#note TUBERCLE is a big miss
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: ADDFHIO 12D FAD. +40 205
#note Definitely waffled between this and HODAD before deciding I didn't want to float the HO there.
>Jackson_Smylie: AABNPUU 4K PAUA +16 152
#note I didn't see AUBU(R)N, but I think I'll play this anyways to set up an S hook and keep the board open. however, in a two game final, you don't have to worry as much about keeping the board open cause you have more time to make up a deficit. this is one of those positions where your preconceived strategy informs your word finding - it did not occur to me to look at J column plays because my mindset was that I needed to keep the board open, so vertical plays there goes totally against that. however, I think it's very important to keep your mind open when looking for plays, and not let your strategic beliefs constrict your play finding too much. it's pretty often that nonstandard plays are correct, and by only looking for plays that fit your preconceived strategic mold, you'll miss those creative plays.

>Jackson_Smylie: BDNOOTU 10F B.OOD +30 182
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: CEEFGGI 6D GIF +30 311
#note Important to note this is a best-of-2 finals! That means that winning games means nothing. It's all about maximizing points. Otherwise I probably do this at 1A
>Jackson_Smylie: KNNSTUX O4 STUNK +38 220
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: CEEGLQR M3 Q.EER +30 341
>Jackson_Smylie: AANOSSX 3B AXON +46 266
#note moment of truth here. AX(E)S is very standard, scores 10 more points. It also does nothing for the board. it seems AXE is a bit better, bingoing more and saving the extra S for scoring when I don't bingo. I deliberated AXE vs. AXON for a while, and it comes down to how desperate my situation is here. I am down 121 but will be down a bit over 100 next turn. In a regular game I think AXON has to come down cause I'm in a really dire situation and I need the aggression. however, I have all of next game to make up this deficit, so maybe AXE is okay just to start cutting spread. I did like that AXON could induce really low scoring blocks, so I felt like I could easily make up the 7 point score sacrifice. Of course the best situation is when I hit TAXON myself. I am okay with this decision but given the best of 2 format, I think it's very reasonable to take the more standard route of AXE
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: CGLNOTW A3 TOWN +20 361
#note I think Jackson earned an overreaction from me on that setup. I can just leave the spot open and wait until I have a better block. And TWO is fine I guess. Was I too worried about the 3C draw? Or is that not a legitimate reason to shed the N? The obvious COL is just fine.
>Jackson_Smylie: AAEOSSY 1C SAY +26 292
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: CEEGILP 11I PEC +21 382
#note I completelty failed to spot the high scoring play PEW. Definitely the best play.
>Jackson_Smylie: AEIJMOS 14G .MOJI +34 326
#note conceding the game here and cutting spread. again it's important to think of this final as one big game that lasts two games - we're about 40% of the way through the "game" right now. there's no sense in taking massive spread sacrifices in the hope I can win this game, cause all that means is taking a lead halfway through the "game". By playing EMOJI now I am just putting myself in a better position partway through the game, not panicking too much cause I have another round to catch up.
>Matthew_Tunnicliffe: DEGIILV N2 VI. +23 405
#note I knew as I was staring at this position that I was about to make a mistake. It is best-of-2 and win% does not matter. I need to play DEVIL to pad the score and ignore the small chance of BASEMENT, which is the only rack I "lose" to. I knew all of this and still made the regular scrabble play. This is a colossal error.
>Jackson_Smylie: AEGHNST 15K THEGN +41 367
#note I then get deservedly annihilated in the endgame and hobble into game 2 with only a 30-pt spread lead.

J: THEGN over THANG cause the A works well with the pool for drawing outs
