#player2 Matthew_Larocque Matthew Larocque
>Paul_Mulik: IUUUU -IUUUU +0 0
#note It's weird how the last game and the first game are so much different. Here, all I cared about was winning. I didn't care how or by how much. I made some weird decisions. Overall, I played one of the worst games of the tournament. I was trying to reach the finish line, and I didn't care about being perfect (or as close to perfect as I'm capable of).
>Matthew_Larocque: ADEHIRS H3 SHADIER +80 80
#note Exactly what I needed. The less thinking, the better!
>Paul_Mulik: EEGPRU 5E PUG.REE +40 40
>Matthew_Larocque: ACDEEIN 3B CANDIE. +22 102
#note I did spend considerable time here, as another bingo would surely make me the huge favourite. I never even paid attention to the U, so obviously I missed AUDIENCE. I may have seen DERACINE, but I've never played it before, and couldn't find it here.
>Paul_Mulik: LMMNOUV 6D MOM +27 67
>Matthew_Larocque: AEEFORW 6H .EW +30 132
>Paul_Mulik: IJLNUV 8D JUVI. +23 90
>Matthew_Larocque: AEFORTX 4K FOREX +51 183
#note I remember choosing this over 7G TIX, but was the 2E spot that hard to notice? There's no way I purposely passed on it?
>Paul_Mulik: LLLNNNN -LLLNNN +0 90
>Matthew_Larocque: AAINOST O1 ANO.IA +39 222
#note I think I got this turn right.
>Paul_Mulik: FTUZ N6 FUTZ +37 127
#note He said he liked this better than TIZ/REZ.
>Matthew_Larocque: ADEGLST 7G G.D +20 242
>Paul_Mulik: ?ADELSY O9 ADEnYLS +91 218
#note It was all part of the plan!
>Matthew_Larocque: ABEILST 15H BLASTIE. +83 325
#note BASTILES I guess, but I think that was the one anagram I couldn't remember from this rack.
>Paul_Mulik: ILLW 13K WILL. +22 240
>Matthew_Larocque: AGIINTT F8 .ATTING +17 342
#note I never doubted making this play, I wanted turnover and I wanted to clog this up as fast as possible.
>Paul_Mulik: BO 14J BO +26 266
>Matthew_Larocque: AIQ 11D QA. +24 366
#note I didn't write down the leave, but I'm pretty sure I had both the Is here, which is why I put the Q here.
>Paul_Mulik: AKNV 11K KNAV. +24 290
>Matthew_Larocque: EIIOOSU D6 .O.O +13 379
#note This is so weird. How do I not play OI/QI here? Was I that terrified of the hooks? And I did write down this leave, so I'm mystified about my thought process. Q can't believe I played this either.
>Paul_Mulik: EENPR 13C PEN.ER +18 308
>Matthew_Larocque: EIISTUY 4C YE +19 398
#note I'm right to worry about the C, but this is a really weak block that still allows too many words to fit. B2 ICY probably works better. I didn't see the alternate strategy of D11 QUEY, setting up my S, to simply outscore any bingo.
>Paul_Mulik: ?EHNORT 9C H. +9 317
>Matthew_Larocque: IIORSTU G10 IS +17 415
#note I wasn't solid on my tracking. I had him with CENT? and then two of EOR. I tried to plan for the worst case scenario. If there's some bingo to the A doubling the C, 86 points. I just needed to score enough to withstand that. I saw that this left 2J TURION at least. I think I forgot about THO, again, which gives him so many bingos that it might as well be a 100% chance he gets one down next turn.
>Paul_Mulik: ?CENORT B6 ChORTEN +72 389
>Paul_Mulik: (IORTU) +10 399
#note I agreed to recount given the stakes, and afterwards I was utterly thrilled to finish where I did. It's so weird; in a tournament this large with opponents unknown to me, I never felt like it threw me off my game. Both last year and this year, it was such a breath of fresh air that I think it brought out the best in me. Which is the best possible result I could have hoped for.

I used to think my rating had surpassed my word knowledge, and the 1700 mark was worlds away. I have no idea how any of this happened. But, I definitely have to study words now, right? I mean how far can someone get missing top-1000 eights every other turn? ;)
