>Joshua: EIOQRRU H4 QUIRE +48 48
>Alec: ?CEENST 3H SCENTEd +87 87
>Joshua: DIKORRZ J2 Z.RK +37 85
#note briefly considered Z(E)RO because it set up my K
>Alec: AEOOSSU 6J SOU +25 112
>Joshua: DHILNOR 8B INHOLD.R +66 151
#note I was very confident about this when I laid it down. INFOLDER INHOLDER are two words I know quite well.
>Alec: AEJOPSU 2F JOE +42 154
#note L1 JOTA and JATO are better despite creating a hotspot on row 1, because they save 1L JUPE. #tacticssmall
>Joshua: ADFIRTW D4 WIDT. +24 175
#note I thought this scored 26 when I laid it down, so I thought it was clearly better than N2 A(d)RIFT especially considering JOE might imply vowel-heaviness, C7 I(N)DRAFT was a consideration too, but the W was just not a tile I want to keep at all on the post-I(N)DRAFT board. Its value improves significantly after A(d)RIFT, which might be better here considering WIDTH only scores 24, but after showing Alec my W, I don't think I can retract my play for a less-than-one-point improvement. #countingsmall #focussmall
>Alec: AAOPRSU A8 PAUA +63 217
#note INHOLDER does not take a P, but my other options score so little (F6 PULAO 15 is best), and if it does take a P I don't want Joshua to be able to use the spot. Somehow Joshua was only a PINHOLDER* holder and not a PINHOLDER* challenger. After the game I learned that INSETTER takes a P. #knowledgelarge
>Joshua: AFILLRV F6 VI.LA +18 193
#note J: I held PINHOLDER extremely forcefully. Alec had said 63 and when I looked up I was totally shocked. But then it looked like it could be a word. But then I knew INHOLDER and have seen it a few times on zyzzyva, so I should know if it takes a hook like INSETTER. But then I hadn't reviewed anything so my word knowledge was shabbier than usual. And why would Alec phony here? His results on aerolith suggest he would know whether INHOLDER would take a P. My time is dwindling. Why would he phony in this spot? I had not thought for one moment that he was probably just learning from not playing E(MERGERS)* in our earlier game, learning that I didn't know words all that well, learning that this was plausible enough. And then to see how horrible my options were. I did neither of these things, and accepted the play. This was the biggest breaking point of my Nationals and also possibly what propelled Alec into the finals. Anyone else would have challenged PINHOLDER*, but would Alec have played it against anyone else? This was definitely a low low. I had no business letting this go. PINSETTER PINFOLD PINFOLDED In terms of this turn VI(T)A L1 is standard, though he might have vowels again so it's not as good. I felt I needed to start opening things. VIAL C2 is probably fine. I thought he might forget about VILLAE, but I'm the one who needed to be surer of my hooks this game. Damn.
#note A: There isn't a hooks quiz on Aerolith as far as I'm aware, and I don't study hooks in general. And I would have played PINHOLDER* against anyone else who doesn't have a reputation for superb word knowledge and who doesn't study nines.
>Alec: ACEIORS 12A SCORIAE +78 295
#note This scores 79 making PINHOLDERS*. LOL. Quackle slightly prefers 11F SCORIAE, which reduces Joshua's bingo potential in the short term.
>Joshua: EFGILRW 13G WIG +22 215
#note pretty sure I have to do this, I'm gonna need a lot of help
>Alec: AABEETY L1 BA.EA. +22 317
#note I basically stopped looking after I found BATEAU. There are many plays better than this, including Quackle's pick C2 ABATE, C1 ABYE, 2L AYE, and 7B BATTIER, which is significantly more awesome than this. #strategymedium
>Joshua: EEFLNRY 5J .Y.R +32 247
#note I misssed RE(d)EFY here, which has to be the play. #findingmedium
>Alec: AEGOTXY 1L .OXY +48 365
>Joshua: EEFLNOT E5 FE +27 274
#note I once again, every single time, get EE vs EO wrong. This is no exception. OF bingos 7% more! #tacticssmall
>Alec: ADEGMPT B8 .MPA.TED +58 423
>Joshua: BEILNOT 10E T.ILBONE +62 336
#note screw you heuristics I win this time, BEEILNT is homeless.
>Alec: DEGLNOS 14H DONGLES +78 501
>Joshua: AAFHIRT 11J FAH +32 368
#note I spent forever trying to find a way to draw into a 3x3 through the D after drawing the blank. The only thing I have found and I think the only possibility is to either exchange into FIR or to play ARHAT K11 or ARHAT(S) N9 to distract Alec and hit E(D)IFIERs for 206. I unfortunately did not come up with that with limited time. Ugh. I thought maybe I didn't see something and this could work.
>Alec: ?EGNTUV M13 V.G +14 515
#note I could make this blocking play, *or* I could fish off the V with K10 NAV and hope for an I, which gives me 15B DUNGIEsT as well as bingos on column N. Quackle likes M12 EVE, which makes no sense; VEG is second, and NAV is third.
>Joshua: AIIMORT 15A I.IOT +21 389
#note IDIOM. (-2) #endgamesmall since I was out of time
>Alec: ?EENNTU C1 TUNEd +18 533
#note 2L AkEE, AlEE, or AwEE. I only considered ANE in that spot. #endgamesmall (-2)
