>josh: EEEMSTV H7 VEE +12 12
#note I didn't consider EVE with the V on the star. That's the right play here, however this is pretty good as well, since it's defensive (taking fewer hooks than EVE) but also doesn't lead to that bad of a board too quickly if I'm trying to get a bingo down.
>ross_brown: FITWY G9 WIFTY +31 31
#note very lucky this was not played with EW, since that's naturally a better play than WIFTY with WE. It gives back fewer big plays on row F and only a few possible bigger plays at H12, IBEX being the worst.
>josh: DEMOSST 10F D.STOMES +74 86
#note I'd also have nowhere to bingo if he had played EW and WIFTY, but same goes for if I had played EVE with the V on the star, unless he had chosen another play in that case.

I figured this would lead to a more closed board quicker, but I guess the S on column M isn't necessarily going anywhere and I'm giving relatively similar chances back regardless of which of MODISTES and DISTOMES I play. Given this, I think MOD(I)STES might be better since a few turns down the line, I don't think the MO being on the left side of the board will mean much other than the T in WIFTY getting partially blocked very soon. The S (and the O) in the 2x2 lane is a big concern here though and as such MODISTES is a bit too variant for my liking.
>ross_brown: DGINOW 11J DOWING +40 71
#note good
>josh: ABCKTUY O11 .UCKY +48 134
#note I didn't see this immediately, but quickly enough to know that if I was going to play it, I needed to play it soon because alarm bells were ringing in my head already. Really tough to challenge this unless you have come across it being phony, which most weathered players would. Ross has probably spent too much time away from the game to be aware of this. He had let INTERSET* go in an earlier matchup, too.

>ross_brown: AIJ H13 AJI +35 106
>josh: ABEHNST 15E ABS.NTHE +64 198
#note I had seen this through SI but unfortunately it didn't fit as a 9-letter word. I had good karma for the rest of ths game.
>ross_brown: ABHI 12D BAI.H +46 152
>josh: CDEIOPT 12K CEP +38 236
#note DEP for 3 fewer has a higher valuation, and I did consider it. The C can be very good for closing the board further, but can also fail at re-overlapping and maintaining a healthy lead, which the D might do better. However, 12J DIET I missed, which is nicer since it plays one more tile and keeps the P to score and the C for defense.

>josh: DIOOPRT 11B POOD +29 265
>ross_brown: II -II +0 173
>josh: ARR 9G ..AR +15 280
#note spidey senses tingling, gotta block here
>ross_brown: AEENNRS 13L RE +23 196
#note he lays down ENSNARE(D)/E(WEAR)* and I figure he's just resigned himself and wants to show me what I blocked, but he just didn't realize I blocked.
>josh: ADINTTT 8H .T +5 285
#note was unsure of SIPED. DA(K) there is an idea. This was just prophylactic I guess, really hard to open anything after this
>ross_brown: EOS 14H .OES +24 220
>josh: ADILNTT 9C ANTI.... +15 300
#note now DA(K) is surely the play. Maybe if SIPED was invalid and he happened to challenge he would give me an A next turn for DILATANT. All of these things were unlikely. I figure now ANN is not really helping him, so I give an inch to move the game along. Changing to LATIN is interesting, but probably exchanging everything or keeping the D or T is the play here.
>ross_brown: ANNO 8A NONA +20 240
>josh: DEEILRT 7A ET +6 306
#note hmm EL is clearly better? Not sure why I played this instead.
>ross_brown: EIIMRVZ D7 R.. +3 243
>josh: DEILRRU F6 LUR.. +8 314
>ross_brown: O 14N O. +12 255
#note first he started laying something own at A1 and I was like "no way" and then he realized he fished for something he couldn't draw because he misread his tiles or something.
>josh: DEEGIRX A7 ..G +4 318
#note now perhaps he's fished for something proper, I'll keep blocking
>ross_brown: EIL E4 LIE +8 263
>josh: DEEIMRX D3 DEX +35 353
#note EX sims better but I don't believe anything Quackle is talking about
>ross_brown: III -III +0 263
>josh: ?EIMNRV 13G ..M +19 372
#note now I can just play C2 VIM and win but I'm really close to something I was worried about earlier
>ross_brown: AZ C2 ZA +28 291

>ross_brown: ?AEILLQ 3I QuA.L +46 337
>josh: ORUU 6L .URO +6 468
#note this was the worst endgame ever to follow such an exciting play. This is surprisingly the best play. If I play ROU(E) or ROU(t) I get stuck with the U after B11 (P)I. I also have no way of blocking VILE or VLEI or VEIL
>ross_brown: EIL 8L .ILE +21 358
