>Jim_Burlant: EEIORTW 8F OWE +12 12
#note Considered WROTE/TOWIE but felt they gave up a bit too much either defensively and by blowing up too much of the rack. A sim indicates this is very much a matter of style preference: WOE 8G OWE 8H (which I rejected due to D/S back hooks) and this stand out atop a sim. TOWIE 8D is a good choice as well, but it wins marginally less often than this.
>Darin_True: DINOORW F2 IRONWO.D +72 72
#note Nice find!
>Jim_Burlant: EIINRTT H1 RETINIT. +77 89
#note I debated between this and INTERTIE after (correctly) determining there was nothing on row 5. Why this? I was 95% sure of INTERTIE and 100% sure of this. Either is as good as the other, though in retrospect I wish I'd put down INTERTIE.
>Darin_True: FFI E9 IFF +21 93
>Jim_Burlant: AGJOPSU E4 JO +31 120
#note This was game 8, and game 1 started almost a full hour late. Translation: late-day fatigue was taking its toll. With JUGA and PUJA unavailable, I never recognized the best plays. E2 SOJU and 5B JUPON look best here. I'm surprised this only gives up 8 points in a sim; this scores well but it just does not clear enough of the rack. I defintely screwed the pooch here.
>Darin_True: CIOX D11 OXIC +31 124
>Jim_Burlant: AGIPSSU 14B PI.AS +22 142
#note It's this or C12 AG. I'd rather set up the A column and unload one of my S's.
>Darin_True: BZ 13C B.Z +47 171
>Jim_Burlant: EEEGSTU F11 TEE. +25 167
#note No really good options available. The only A column plays leave garbage as does TEG 15A. Then I saw this. It's a tough call given that I block ZAG plays on row 15, but it cleans the vowel overload and scores very nicely. The duck indicates this is a very strong choice; the only play that beats it in a sim (by 1.1 equity point and less than 1% win percentage) is 9C GU(ID)E for 16.
>Darin_True: ATV 15A VAT +27 198
>Jim_Burlant: EGISUUV -GIUUV +0 167
#note Not sure why I exchanged here; with 15 points available for GUV D7, there's no real reason to do so. The only thing I don't get is why Q prefers VUG D7 to GUV; After VUG I would still be likely to trail by at least 30 after his next turn and there would be nowhere to bingo on the west half of the board, regardless of whether I have an S. I agree I shouldn't have exchanged, but I'd play GUV D7 if I had this to do again. (-4)
>Darin_True: ?BCEOST 1G B.OCkETS +62 260
#note Best bingo for Darin is 4H ICEBOATS for 74. I held BROCKETS, but let it go.
>Jim_Burlant: AAEELNS 6C ANE. +17 184
#note Best.
>Darin_True: DO 4C DO.. +24 284
>Jim_Burlant: AADELLS I8 DAL +13 197
#note Not one of the original choices, this sims respectably. Even though I possessed the D and S, I played this to open up more southern hemisphere possbilities than words starting in D or S.
>Darin_True: AEU J9 EAU +11 295
>Jim_Burlant: ADEEHLS K11 HE +20 217
#note With LEASHED having just been blocked, the play is to open more lines and keep the rack together.
>Darin_True: AEGIRT H10 AIGRET +30 325
>Jim_Burlant: ADEELLS L12 DEAL +18 235
#note No bingoes play. Given my deficit, I probably need to go for broke. I've got nothing to lose by playing 3A DEAL or LEAD to give myself triple-triple opportunities to get back into the game.
>Darin_True: IINP 14J PI.NI +26 351
>Jim_Burlant: EKLLRSU N1 .ULK +16 251
>Darin_True: ANVY 5K NAVY +32 383
>Jim_Burlant: EELMRSU 7B EMU +17 268
#note ILEUM 4H 24
>Darin_True: GMRU 8A GRUM +45 428
#note Demoralized by the onslaught of poor tile draws and not paying attention. NUM* is phony and he should be scoring 0, not 45!
>Jim_Burlant: AELRRSS L4 R.SSLE +14 282
#note Three mistakes stand out and I should never have lost this game by 124 points. Was it winnable? That's another story. JO instead of SOJU or JUPON was a mistake, but the next real mistakes didn't come until his BROCKETS bingo sealed the game away.
