>Jim_Burlant: BIMNRUY 8H UNBY +18 18
>Jim_Burlant: BIMNRUY -- -18 0
#note Final game. It was late, I was getting hungry, and was worn out from having two more games go by in which I had no chance to win - this, after enduring two straignt 1-3 morning sessions. The fatigue was catching up to me, as I conflated UNBE, INBY, and UPBY into UNBY*. Whoops. Best looks to be RUBY or BURY. This is stupid.
>Nedd_Kareiva: EKU 8F KUE +14 14
>Jim_Burlant: BIMNRUY 7H BUY +13 13
#note Somewhat better. Best is apparently YUK, but only by a smidge. This sets up the M, so I figured I could do worse.
>Nedd_Kareiva: AU F6 AU. +9 23
>Jim_Burlant: AFILMNR E4 FLAM +24 37
#note Not sure why I didn't think of film, but the shock is that this actually wins the sim, with FILM in the same location simming 2-1/2 points down. 49.5% to win.
>Nedd_Kareiva: EILORST K1 LOITERS +73 96
#note Best bingo looks to be TREFOILS 4B for 74.
>Jim_Burlant: CEINRRT 2G TRIC.RNE +82 119
#note Only bingo. Just shy of 50% to win.
>Nedd_Kareiva: IQ D3 QI +32 128
>Jim_Burlant: AEIOORW H1 A.ROW +27 146
#note It's either this or OORIE 1D. I realize EIO is unbalanced, but I'd rather unload the W. (-2.5).
>Nedd_Kareiva: ANW 1M AWN +25 153
>Jim_Burlant: AAEILOV 6J A.VO +16 162
#note Not much to choose from - it's this, D7 AVO, or 6J ORA and the V isn't good enough to keep, rack balance or not. Q agrees - this is best. I'm treading water at 45% to win...but that's about to change, quickly.
>Nedd_Kareiva: AEINPPS 9H NAPPIES +68 221
#note Only bingo for Nedd, and he's now 73% to win.
>Jim_Burlant: AEEEIJL D7 AJEE +24 186
#note Board blindness: these tiles score 33 at 10E. This slip winds up being a crucial miss, as you'll see in a moment:
>Nedd_Kareiva: FNO 8M FON +25 246
>Jim_Burlant: ?BEILOU C9 OBLIqUE +75 261
#note And I follow up a 10-point equity slip with an even bigger miss. I recognized BIOfUEL when I alphagrammed the rack, but didn't see that it played at 10I for 88. This is the only other bingo. BIOFUEL leaves me in the driver's seat at 58%. This wins 48, but was the worst play I could have made for this game. (-20)
>Nedd_Kareiva: EMNNOSV 15C .NVENOMS +92 338
#note Nice find!
>Jim_Burlant: ?CDEERT O4 DECa.TER +74 335
#note Even though the bingo-bango gets me back within 3, I expect to be trailing by 30 after his next play, which means I'll still need another bingo. If I play at 12B, I make the board too easy for him to defend, so the O4 plays are much better than 12B here. Any of the O4 bingoes is as good as any other (DECENTER, DECENTRE, etc.)
>Nedd_Kareiva: HOY 14F HOY +37 375
>Jim_Burlant: AEEIOST 10F TOEA +14 349
#note No great options, but the duck suggests that less is more here: 3M AE scores 16 to this play's 14, but more importantly it wins 10% more often. The problem with TOEA B9 is that it defends the board for him and I need to leave the b column open (even a baby bingo for 60 will probably be enough).
>Nedd_Kareiva: GZ 12B Z.G +26 401
>Jim_Burlant: DEHILSX 11E HEX +37 386
#note Hmm. Good score for sure. However, Quackle feels it's time to do one of a couple of things: fish the X and go for HIRSLED or HALIDES. If I don't do that, I should score with DOSH N7 and keep SIX for my next turn. As worn down as I was from this mess of a tournament, I wasn't anywhere near sharp enough to recognize that sort of sequence.
>Nedd_Kareiva: DIT M8 ..TID +9 410
>Jim_Burlant: DGIIILS L11 GID +19 405
#note And, adding insult to injury, I have the win...and I flat-out whiff on it. Was so stunned by the GII draw that I whiffed on what should have been the easy out in two. The lone win is SIGIL L11, setting up outs all over the place with my remaining ID. Wow, I really stunk the joint up with this one.
>Nedd_Kareiva: ADGRT B6 GRAD +14 424
>Jim_Burlant: IILS J9 .SI +14 419
>Nedd_Kareiva: T 8A T. +6 430
>Nedd_Kareiva: (IL) +4 434
