>Jim_Burlant: CEGIPRY 8G GYP +18 18
#note Sad, but true - All I could find here was PRICY, PRICEY, and GYP. Given some of the drawing problems I had been having in this tournament, I got way too protective of my promising rack fragment and was way too busy rack grooming. There's no excuse for anything but GRIPY 8H.
>Doug_Lundquist: IZ I6 ZI. +15 15
>Jim_Burlant: CEIORTV G6 VO. +8 26
#note More lameness. I didn't like COZ, but that doesn't explain why I just didn't play VIZOR for 19. At least this is only a 1-1/2 point dog as opposed to the 7-point dog my opening play was.
>Doug_Lundquist: AFN J5 FAN +23 38
>Jim_Burlant: ACEEIRT G6 ...IE +10 36
#note I didn't want to give all sorts of easy hooks back, which is why plays like AE K4 and ICE K3 did not appeal to me. Since I was needlessly tying one hand behind my own back, all that I felit like I was left with was this. Quackle (correctly) feels I should just man up and play K3 ICE.
>Doug_Lundquist: AG K5 AG +29 67
>Jim_Burlant: ACDEERT H10 REDACT +35 71
#note Right idea, wrong execution. DECARE in the same location scores 39.
>Doug_Lundquist: AADEILN 15C LANIA.ED +60 127
#note Held, but released. I had taken an almost 7-month break from studying before resuming barely 2 weeks before this tournament. I couldn't remember if LANIATED* was new to NSW2018 (uh, no) or was a repeat of a study error I had made on my token pass through the bingoes (guilty as charged). Also - LANIATED* scores identically to DENTALIA, and the board position on this play is noticeably worse. Given my uncertainty, I convinced myself the only viable reason for him to try this that he was looking for me to challenge. My only decent block would have been COWY on row 14, which still would have left me addled with the B and M. OTOH, if I let this go, I'm guaranteed to come back for 47 at L1 with WOMBY. If this were five-point challenge I'd have challenged this in a millisecond. But given all of the above, he's only scoring 60, and I'm just not sure enough about it to risk my turn, so I let it slide. Obviously I swat this off if I'm sure it's bad.
>Jim_Burlant: BEIMOWY L1 WOMBY +47 118
#note I finally get a play right. 32% to win.
>Doug_Lundquist: INO 1L .INO +21 148
>Jim_Burlant: AEIRTUV 12H .URATIVE +76 194
#note Only bingo, and back in the driver's seat. 63% to win.
>Doug_Lundquist: EILLO 14J OLLIE +19 167
>Jim_Burlant: DEGHJRW O8 WEDG. +30 224
#note Or HEDGER in the same location; I'd rather get rid of the W.
>Doug_Lundquist: EX 14E EX +52 219
#note Ouch! This hurts in more ways than one; not only does he score 52, but he's just blocked my impending JEHU. Time to recalibrate.
>Jim_Burlant: EHJRSTU F9 THRU +31 255
#note FAIL. I never recognized what should have been a no brainer: JURA D12 and THUJA K8. This scores comparably but I'm still hamstringing myself with the J on a board that isn't J-friendly. There's a good reason this is a 9-point dog in a sim. And it's about to get worse:
>Doug_Lundquist: ?EQU 2J QU.tE +71 290
>Jim_Burlant: DEJOSSU 13A JUDOS +29 284
#note Now that I felt I needed a bingo again, I had to open up. I'm surprised this sims as well as it does, given that it gives back a guaranteed 30 (at least) while I trail. This is a 2-point dog to my best optoin, SOJU M5.
>Doug_Lundquist: AEE A12 A.EE +36 326
#note Is there anyone in the history of Scrabble who could NOT extend the J into 30 points in this kind of situation?
>Jim_Burlant: EHIINRS 15N HI +20 304
#note No bingoes play. I should be playing at 11K for 2 more points. Barely 20% to win.
>Doug_Lundquist: EKP 11K KEP +36 362
>Jim_Burlant: ?EIMNRS B7 tERMIN.S +86 390
#note Best bingo; the other option is MONSIEUR B7 for 8 fewer points. Still a crapshoot in Quackle's eyes: 53% to win.
>Doug_Lundquist: BIL A6 LIB +28 390
>Jim_Burlant: AFNNORT 10J FON +24 414
#note I chose this because I mistakenly thought he was going to play SCOOT 9I and I wanted to block that. Best play looks to be NONFAT N4 to hopefully go out in one on my next rack.
>Doug_Lundquist: CORSSTT D12 T.S. +18 408
#note Doug told me post-mortem he didn't see TRONA N6. His only win here is M5 SCOTS.
>Jim_Burlant: AANORT N6 TRONA +21 435
#note My only win. Not well played at all on my end, but glad I still pulled it out.
>Doug_Lundquist: CORST C3 TORCS +19 427
>Doug_Lundquist: (A) +2 429
