>Peter_Schwartzman: ?ENNUVW 8B UNWoVEN +82 82
#note Never a good omen when your oppoent has NNUVW in his first rack...and bingoes with that garbage.
>Jim_Burlant: DNOPRTU D4 UPTO.N +22 22
#note An annoying rack - looks like there should be an 8 in there, but there isn't. This play is the wrong execution of the right idea. PUTDOWN D3 scores 4 more. (-4)
>Peter_Schwartzman: AEJVY G6 VE.JAY +28 110
>Jim_Burlant: ?ADEORS 12A DEOdARS +88 110
#note Or DOgEARS in the same location.
>Peter_Schwartzman: FO F10 FO. +32 142
>Jim_Burlant: FGHIMST E11 F.G +32 142
#note Do I play at E11 or do I play at E11? :-) I considered FAITH E11 for 40 but decided I didn't need that level of volatility. I ultimately chose this for two reasons. First, it unloads the dreaded N-less G. Secondly, it set up something ending in SH back-hooking FAG. The duck agrees - this is best.
>Peter_Schwartzman: BRU A12 .RUB +21 163
>Jim_Burlant: AHIMRST C11 H.M +16 158
#note No bingoes play. As for this, probably a bit too much rack grooming. The duck feels I should play E4 HI for 23 and absolutely despises this. I sorta see that, but I generally don't like keeping 4 consonants and one vowel, and none of the choices that score more than 20 allow me to keep more balanced. Then again, this early I wasn't paying as much attention to the vowel/consonant ratio as I should have. This pool is already slightly consonant-deficient, so it isn't as bad for me to keep 4C/1V as it otherwise might be. This is a 7-point dog in a sim and it wins roughly 4% less often than E4 HI.
>Peter_Schwartzman: AAEIRST 14D ASTERIA +69 232
>Jim_Burlant: AEIIRST K9 AIRIEST +72 230
#note Short term my strategy "worked." If I'd played HI as the duck wanted me to last turn, I'd be bingoing for 86 on row 15 instead of for 72 here. This is my only playable bingo.
>Peter_Schwartzman: LMT 13J M.LT +16 248
>Jim_Burlant: ABEGIOP J9 ABO +25 255
#note It's neck and neck atop a sim between this choice and GAB J8. Equity is identical between the two, and GAB wins 0.2% more often than this. Not sure why GAB is that much better. Then again, given his next rack neither really mattered:
>Peter_Schwartzman: EILNORT L3 RETINOL +69 317
>Jim_Burlant: EEGIIPU 3J EU.IPI +16 271
#note Yuck. Now the rack struggles begin in earnest. I was so fixated on cleaning the rack that I never looked for E4 PIE and just resigned myself to this. A sim indicates this is second best, but it's not a bad choice either. It's maybe a 1-1/2 point dog and it wins within 1/2% of PIE.
>Peter_Schwartzman: DIQ B7 Q.ID +18 335
>Jim_Burlant: DEGGLOW O2 W.GGLED +45 316
#note Best, and I've doubled my winning chances. That means I'm now back to almost 14% to win. But not for long:
>Peter_Schwartzman: ADEEHLS 2D LEASHED +74 409
>Jim_Burlant: AIKNOTY 1A TOKAY +47 363
#note I was half-tempted to try KYAT 1L, but I didn't think TWIGGLED* wouldn fly. :-) As for this - ATONY 1K scores 57, but whatever. This one's over except the final score.
>Peter_Schwartzman: AEX 15F AXE +47 456
>Jim_Burlant: CIINORZ 6J ZO.C +35 398
#note Defintely some leakage on my end, but even then, the total equity loss was roughly 30 points. Given given the ebb and flow of this game, my gut says I lose by 40 - 50 points instead of by 90 if I play better, but I don't believe this one was winnable, considering he hit 3 bingos in 5 turns.
