#player1 Gunther Gunther
#player2 Noah Noah
>Gunther: EEGIIKT H7 GIE +8 8
#note Actual rack. I think I would do TIKE. Gunther didn't want to keep a G.Tournament commentary: At this point, Gunther is 4-1 +197, I am 3-2 + 139, and Dave is 3-2 + 100. So if I want to win the tournament, I must win this game by 30 or more points. I considered this a little bit as the game went on.
>Noah: BEEHOOU G8 OHO +21 21
#note Thought GIE looked bingo-ey, wanted to constrain bingo options. Also considered OBOE.
>Gunther: IKO I6 OIK +19 27
>Noah: BBCEEUU F10 BUBU +24 45
>Gunther: DEITY J2 DEITY +34 61
>Noah: CEEJNOV 4I J.VE +28 73
>Gunther: GGINORT 13C GRO.TING +74 135
>Noah: CEEMNOZ H12 Z.NE +69 142
#note Also considered ZINC. Quackle's static evaluator has CEMO as 9.4 better than EEMO.
>Gunther: AEEOUWX E9 WAX +49 184
#note I think Gunther said he had this. He thought for a while on this play because he didn't like keeping all vowels. Maybe he thought for two minutes?
>Noah: CEEMOST M2 COSET +29 171
#note I wasn't sure what to make of Gunther's thinking on WAX. The main other option here seemed to me to be MOC 3L. Plays on column D (COME, ME) strike me as bad. I could also play MOSTE or ESCOT, which I didn't think of.
>Gunther: AEEOORU J9 AERU.O +11 195
#note Actual rack. I pointed out DOUCE 2J (as well as the ridiculous BEZOAR) after the game, which I thought was a cool play. I later talked about this game with Rafi, and he mentioned AERO 11H as another option. I might play DOUCE here, but it could be too aggressive, especially given Gunther's tournament position.
>Noah: ELMMPRR K10 MEM +26 197
#note Kind of an ugly rack. I was happy to set up my P. My average score next turn seems to be about 10 points higher after REM, so I guess I'm better off doing that.
>Gunther: ?ADENOT 15A NEmATOD. +77 272
>Noah: DLLNPRR -DLLNR +0 197
>Gunther: EEPV L9 VEEP +40 312
>Noah: AIILNPR 14B PAIR +29 226
>Gunther: DEFINNU D4 UNDINE +21 333
#note Actual rack.
>Noah: ?AHILLN N6 ANtHILL +67 293
#note Tough choice. Also considered LAH or HILL. It seems like I just need to bingo now though? Isn't it hard to score enough otherwise?
>Gunther: AFF C8 AFF +28 361
>Noah: ACIOQRS 5B CI.Q +30 323
#note I chose this instead of QADI because of the consonant heavy pool. It was a little less consonant heavy than I thought, since I didn't think there was an I left at this point. A sim seems to imply that this leads to more bingos. CINQ manages to get less valuation and win% anyway. Maybe I should keep CORS because my bingos will score more, even though they are rarer, and I may need a high scoring bingo to have a chance (especially to have a chance to win the tournament). That's plausible.
>Gunther: DLRRSTW 7B TW.RL +29 390
#note Actual rack I think.
>Noah: AALORST A7 ALASTOR +83 406
#note I was pretty sure it was only ASWIRL / AWHIRL, but laid this down hoping for ... I'm not sure what, but it didn't feel like anything else would have a chance at all. I guess Gunther could not challenge and play a phony. Or he could challenge and I could be wrong about ATWIRL, but that seemed super unlikely.
>Gunther: ADEIRSY F2 YIDS +32 422
#note Rafi and I found YAIRDS and DERAYS in the post-mortem. Those are actually the only two wins (though basically any play puts Gunther ahead of me in the tournament, and forces anyone else to win huge to get the top spot).
>Noah: S C7 ....S +14 420
#note The worst mistakes I made this tournament, that I'm confident were mistakes, were FEZ against Rafi, HUMPER against Carl, MEM in this last game, and AXES against Rafi, probably in that order. All of these are clear, significant strategic errors. I also ran into many positions that I'm still uncertain about, and it's possible I made equal or worse errors in those (e.g. AEINORT against Gunther and CIJORST against Carl)
>Noah: (AER) +6 426
