#note I could also do U on the star. the I after this placement does give back some scoring plays. I am liking U on the star more, I feel like it closes the top a bit better than F on the star, despite reaching upwards an extra row itself. It's a close decision, and I chose this one to make the position toughest. I think U on the star is the way to go

#note QI is fine here, as are exchanging EQ, EEQ, EEQS. I would prob keep ERSS if I exchanged
>wow: ADEGNTV E8 .AVED +16 116
#note I was kinda aware that this was likely too big a sacrifice, but I really got the sense that bryn hit a bingo based on his body language, and CAVED really cuts his bingo% more than anything else. DEV is good with a lot of leaves specified, he doesn't have an A or S always and can't always hit the spot, and I'm doing a much better job outrunning (especially if I can draw a good DEVA play). I thought about V(E)G and V(O)G as well, but CAVED seemed like the better defensive play cause ADENT doesn't have great prospects on this board. VEGAN L1 is standard but it is way less defensive. I could def do DEV if I did this over, but CAVED felt cool. I was clearly wrong about my read on Bryn

>wow: GIINOTZ F6 ZO. +32 148
#note j2 ZING is worth it, GIINT is pretty bad on this board.
>bryn: EJ N10 JE. +26 117
>wow: GIINNTU O12 .ING +21 169
#note laid down JEEING then changed to this, it gives a decent scoring spot and also just allows some miracle triple triples that I don't need to allow here. JEEING obv sims best but I'm okay playing BUNG or BING instead. I also set up ING possibilities that are less likely to be blocked. I didn't see INDUING, which I think I would play had I seen it. INTU, despite ING upside, is pretty bad on this board. I would much rather draw scoring tiles
>bryn: CMO D11 MOC +24 141
>wow: AAIINTU L2 UNAI +10 179
#note didn't see AT(T)AIN, pretty cool. I think the diff between the leaves here is smaller than usual, cause the bingo upside of the more balanced leaves isn't recognized on this bingo-dead board. ATTAIN seems like the play
>bryn: EGT C10 TEG +14 155

#note damn, I totally missed the spot apparently. OA(T)IER this time
>bryn: DERRRST M12 .RR +6 161
#note great play! puts tons of pressure on me and now the bottom of the board is very S-hooky and very hard to block without an S
>wow: AEIIMOP I5 OPI.M +25 228
#note jeez, my word finding was not on point this game. EPINAOI and PIANO and PIANI are all good. I considered POI M2 as well. This board is pretty hard to close now between the top right and left side and bottom, so I like outrunning. POI is probably the way I'd go to keep defense open as an option for later, especially if I want to play at G10 totally killing the bottom. Still, PIANI is a great option that I should have seen. OPIUM is really bad cause AEI is a bad and risky leave that does not help me outrun at all, it's well worth the 5 point sacrifice to keep the M.
>bryn: DELST H1 DELTS +23 184
>wow: AACEEIY N2 AIYEE +24 252
#note considered AIYEE G10 at first, it's great to totally kill the bottom, but there are enough bingo prospects left on the top and left sides that it's worth it to outrun here instead, AIYEE G10 may be more defensive longterm but the chances of him bingoing immediately and becoming the favourite in the game are too high. I considered AECIA as well cause it keeps the E with many As out, and the Y has some good scoring and defensive properties. G10 plays with the Y are great cause they mostly don't take S. Seems kinda close. I could do AECIA(L) as well, once again wanted to take the outrunning route.

#note I figure the Q is in the bag when he played WELK, and passing seems to work out better than playing right now. It's mostly to avoid drawing the Q myself, since I need to keep my A if I plan on drawing the Q (so I am not stuck, since QAT), and my options without spending my A are really bad. there is a certain degree of math here that is possible, but based on a quick quackle search it seems that this does work out better for spread, both optimally (or near optimally) and based on what I think will happen in reality. Even if Bryn deduces that the Q is in the bag based on my pass, he won't really change his play that much cause keeping his A isn't so hard for him from AKILNSW. I didn't do all the math, but just saw how much of a difference it was to play off my A and how bad my options with the Q were, so passing seemed right

#note GRUSHY*. I was pretty sure only a B went there but I didn't think this would get a challenge
>bryn: AIKLQS B9 QIS +24 311
>wow: ENV C1 ..VEN +16 457
#note I played this game really badly. I think I was just lazy and unfocused and that led me to miss all my best options every turn. I can't allow this kind of sloppiness at nationals
