>Joshua_Sokol: AMNQTU D7 QUANT.M +19 61
#note Josh is messing with me here. He could have played QUANT at 9E for 9 more points, but he wants to bait me to put an 'S' on QUANTUM, which he would promptly challenge off (i.e. the 'Minotaur maneuver'). Yes, he will sacrifice 9 points for this.
>Ken: AEEIRTV 11B VI.A +18 62
#note Quackle likes VENA 10B for 15 points. I guess this makes sense because EIRT is a better bingo leave than EERT. Quackle equally likes AVE C13 for 20 points, but that's not a play I would make
>Joshua_Sokol: FZ J10 F.Z +36 97
>Ken: EEENORT 12J .EE +26 88
>Joshua_Sokol: BNOS 14A NOBS +31 128
#note He doesn't succeed to bait me on QUANTUMS (or doesn't want to wait that long), so he settles for the next best thing: add the S himself with the assumption I won't challenge. Of course, Josh is correct: i'm not sure about the plural, and I don't even consider to challenge.
>Ken: DENORTY A12 YO.D +36 124
>Joshua_Sokol: BPU 13G PUB +21 149
>Ken: ?DEMNRT 9C M.D +9 133
#note Why didn't I play MORDENT 14H? Better not to ask. This is exhibit A for my erratic tournament play. Until I redo all high-prob bingos, this will continue to happen and prevent me from reaching my potential.
>Joshua_Sokol: AHR 13L RAH +14 163
>Ken: ?ENORTU O7 TENOURs +77 210
>Ken: ?ENORTU -- -77 133
#note Ugh! Josh up to his usual shenanigans. He played RAH 13K 100% to bait me to pluralize it, which of course I did. It's a smart play which has worked repeatedly for him in our games. I should have recognized what he was doing. Really, I should know that RAH doesn't take an S. Dammit!
>Joshua_Sokol: ACENR 14J CRANE +41 204
>Ken: ?ENORTU 7H TROUNcE +60 193
#note I played TROUNCE instead of TENOURS because I wasn't certain that the bad word from the previous turn was RAHS, not TENOURS. I was a little flustered here
>Joshua_Sokol: ACELN N2 ENLAC. +28 232
>Ken: ?AAEOST L3 AsSO.ATE +66 259
#note I was really happy to find this. I had to work for it. Leaves two major bingo openings on the 4 and 5 lines. Otherwise the board is getting closed up for bingos, and I'm thinking here that the game will likely come down to the wire.
>Joshua_Sokol: DGIIT O7 DIGIT +29 261
>Ken: ILOORWW M1 LOW +26 285
#note Jackson was following this game and asked me why I played LOW M1 instead of WOW M1. Definitely unconventional. I figured there are two reasons to play WOW and keep ILOR: 1) Score 6 more points in a game where I'll need every point; 2) More likely to bingo with ILOR. I try to play to the current state of my word knowledge, and a bingo with ILOR leave will likely be high-prob, which I'm not confident I'll find. Also, with JKXY left in the bag, I think it's likely I won't have a playable bingo in future turns. So I'm looking to set myself up for future scoring. I like keeping OW to play at I6 or N15. Quackle likes WOW M1 by 7 points, but it is assuming I will find any bingo I draw, when the reality is that I may not
>Joshua_Sokol: IK N10 KI +34 295
>Ken: DILORWY 15M DRY +31 316
#note I was very happy with this play...and generally pleased with how I finished this game. Speedy Quackle likes OW 6I by 11 points over DRY 15M. But deep sim says DRY is the clear winner with 59% win versus 44% for OW. I really want to keep OW to play at H6 in one of the next turns. Based on the tile pool, I think that spot will be there because there is no clear play, unless Josh plays JO J6 or bingos on the 5 line, which he very well can. I'm just hoping he doesn't. Of note, Josh was beating himself up over this after the game. He said he should have played KITHE N10 on the previous turn to block my DRY play.
>Joshua_Sokol: JO 14F JO +31 326
>Ken: EIILOWX E4 LWEI +25 341
#note This was a very interesting turn, and I'm happy with myself for showing the patience and wherewithal to set up a high-scoring X play for next turn. Once I saw LWEI E4, I was pretty sure it was best. Josh has to block OX/EX which I infer will mean making a play he wouldn't otherwise make, i.e. scores too few points or doesn't allow him to be out in 2. Of course, if he doesn't block, I'm figuring my X play will score enough to win. No question worth emptying the bag to make this play and Quackle concurs, saying LWEI wins 86% of the time
>Joshua_Sokol: EEGORST F3 GOES +18 344
>Ken: GIOSTX 15G SOX +37 378
#note Victory! A good example of the current state of my game: some creative, good decisions coupled with an inexplicable high-prob miss, i.e. MORDENT, and throwing away turns. It didn't cost me here, but disaster was yet to come this tournament.
