#note considered YAG as well to not open the 3x3, but this Y placement isn't very dangerous and the extra points are helpful for me outscoring

#note IREF(U)L is really cool, much much better than this. although it opens IRE immediately, thos can be blocked immediately, and IREFUL closes the F and G columns. after FERIAE it's a lot harder to close all these vertical lanes

#note big turn here. L2 VITA wins a sim, it's aggressive and highly valuated. Short term, Ken bingoes less after l2, but I don't like the defense longterm. It opens the M column, when currently the M column is closed (and is immediately blockable with L column plays).

F6 VITA addresses the board openness much better, while not sacrificing too much in valuation. It closes D, F, and G columns. It still leaves columns B and C, but those aren't as easy to hit. VITA does leave the HINNY hooks and the 4 and partial 5 row, but I think longterm it is more proactive than L2 VITA.

VITALS/SHINNY is cool for longterm closure - it leaves BCD columns and the 4 row, but it starts to reach into the upper left side of the board for exhaustion. It also forks the SHINNY hook, making the right side harder to open (no more easy L column parallels opening column M). If VITALS closed column D I might have played it.

VITALS makes a scoring spot which is generally nice at my lead, but that's only if him bingoing immediately is the threat I'm countering, OR if him taking the spot allows me to block the rest of the lines. In this case, if he takes the spot above VITALS, I can't block BCD and 4/5 at the same time, so I open the door to him scoring and bingoing, which is how I can lose the game.

The scoring spot can also be devastating, with a Z bomb or even a K bomb, upwards of a bingo score. That is not what I need at this score. All this made me appreciate the longterm defense of VITA over the exhaustion of VITALS, because of these problems with the scoring spot VITALS creates. There are many other positions where VITALS-like plays are correct, but they seem to be in situations where a) the scoring spot doesn't allow huge 50+ point scores, b) if the threat is an immediate bingo, or c) if the opponent taking the scoring spot allows us to completely exhaust or restrict the bingo options, rather than just partially do so.
