#player1 Jim_Burlant Jim Burlant
#player2 Charles_Reinke Charles Reinke
>Jim_Burlant: DEKNTYZ 8G ZEK +32 32
#note J: Don't like leaving the consonant overload, but there isn't much else of a choice. This is best. For reference - TYKE 8G (the next best option after the various ZEK placements) wins 2% less often and sims roughly 4-1/2 points down.
>Charles_Reinke: ACGGIQR 9D CIGAR +23 23
>Jim_Burlant: DEINPTY 10E DIPNET +38 70
#note J: After a couple of minutes, I find it. I really liked this play. It scores 38 points and already seriously limits his ability to do much if it doesn't have a bingo or any premium tiles. Otherwise, what's he going to do? This is clearly best. But what's really amusing in retrospect: on my next turn I make a play as bad as this one was good. You'll have to see it to believe it.
>Charles_Reinke: AEGIOOQ -AGIOOQ +0 23
>Jim_Burlant: DJNOOVY -DJNOOVY +0 70
#note J: I considered ENVY/ENVOY I10, but then wondered, what was I going to do with DOJO? I then spent so much time debating between ENVY/ENVOY that I failed to recognize that DOJO scored 29 at 11I. Also in the back of my mind - to this point in the tournament, I had more or less drawn a low normal allotment of blanks, but way too many of them were coming after the game had already been decided. So maximizing turnover was more of a priority than it should have been. So I figured what the heck, exchange 7 since we're both starting over. I should obviously play DOJO for 29 here, end of story. For a brain fart of this magnitude, there should be a special Scrabble award akin to the Razzies that are given for the worst movie of the year.
>Charles_Reinke: AENRTVX 11I TAX +24 47
#note J: Charles agonized over this turn, and for good reason. This scores 24, but it opens A and I hooks while he trails by 47.
>Jim_Burlant: ?AEEOSW L10 WAE +23 93
#note J: What an awesome draw - literally! (The only 7 in this rack is AWESOmE). It's obscene that I have a draw this good after making such a boneheaded play on my previous turn. What's also amusing is that, with all the back hooks Charles just opened up, I have a blank bingo that doesn't play. This is best.
>Charles_Reinke: EEILNRV 12J RI.L +16 63
#note C: I wanted to make sure the board stayed forked with easy bingo lanes, so I did this instead of VIE or VIER in the same spot. Also I could maybe draw EVENT(ID)E after this.
>Jim_Burlant: ?EEOOSY J5 OYES +32 125
#note J: Best. Next best is OE 13M, and that wins 3% less often at a deficit of 6 points.
>Charles_Reinke: AEENTTV M4 NAVETTE +67 130
#note J: This also plays at 13D for 66. Either placement is as good as the other in Quackle's eyes.
>Jim_Burlant: ?EIORSU 13D OUREbIS +62 187
#note J: K1 bingoes (MOUSIER, LOUSIER, etc.) score 73 to this play's 62. Not sure why I didn't look harder to play there. Still 72% to win, but I should be winning 78 with one of the K1 plays.
>Charles_Reinke: ACDENOU K2 COUDE +27 157
>Jim_Burlant: ?AEFNTW 12B FAWN +32 219
#note J: Best.
>Charles_Reinke: AAEFNQR E7 QA.. +14 171
>Jim_Burlant: ?EGHILT 2G GLIT.HEs +80 299
#note J: Or LETCHING 2H; I'm fine with this, since it doesn't open a 3x3. Honorable mention: TEIGLACH 2E for 65.
>Charles_Reinke: AEFNRRU H1 F.ARE +27 198
#note C: Wanted to create lanes here, but it's trivial for Jim to block them if that's what he wants to do. The conventional 1M FUR is best.
>Jim_Burlant: AGLMSSY 4D MYLA. +20 319
#note J: Now is time to dispense with Quackle. Just looking to gum up bingo lines turn some tiles to hasten the end of the game.
>Charles_Reinke: INNPRTU 14B PUNT +21 219
#note C: 14J INPUT is better because it sets up TARSIA (which I didn't see).
>Jim_Burlant: DEGNRSS 15A GENS +32 351
#note J: Luck box. Whatever I need, when I need it.
>Charles_Reinke: DHIILNR 1M HID +27 246
>Jim_Burlant: DEIORSV 5C VOE +26 377
#note J: While this does terrible statically, this is one of my two best plays, the other of which is VIE. This is best because the pool has 4 unseen O's instead of two unseen I's.
>Charles_Reinke: ILNOORU 13M OI +8 254
#note C: This seems cool but LNORU only bingos with three things in the bag: AD, AJ, and AM.
>Jim_Burlant: ADIIMRS 14I DIM +18 395
#note J: OI was a nice setup for his L and I took a long time here unsuccessfully trying to figure out a way to block it. With J unseen, MAID N7 was a non-starter and I didn't see anything else that looked good. I figured my best tack was to set up my S at 15H. Hence, this.
>Charles_Reinke: BLNOORU O12 BLUR +30 284
>Jim_Burlant: ABIJORS 15F JOBS +43 438
>Charles_Reinke: NOO N9 ONO +15 299
>Charles_Reinke: (AIR) +6 305
#note C: This was my third game in a row with no blanks or S's, so I was a bit peeved even though I like to pretend that I don't have emotions. If you try to talk to me at the next nationals the first words out of my mouth will be "last year I had three games in a row with no blanks or esses, how unfair is that?" and if you're not properly sympathetic, I'll add you to my "Players Who Didn't Give Me Enough Sympathy" list.

J: Outside of a major brain fart on my third turn, no major mistakes otherwise. Now if only I could eliminate those brain farts...
