#player2 Joshua_Sokol Joshua Sokol
>Mack_Meller: AAFNNRR H7 RAN +6 6
#note Mack was really stumped here. He chose the route of least resistance, keeping the most balanced leave, playing short and defensive. However his rack is going pretty much nowhere here regardless of what he plays, so he's probably better off playing ARF or FAN. I thought ARF would be the play as it's also defensive, but scores 6 more and likely provides similar bingo chances, although fewer scoring chances.
>Joshua_Sokol: BEHIMPS 6F MIB +19 19
>Mack_Meller: AJOR F2 JORA. +30 36
>Joshua_Sokol: EHOPPSV E3 POH +32 51
#note I don't remember when I saw HOPPER, if it was before or after my play, but I think it was after. I was annoyed because it seemed well worth considering. HOPPE(R) sims just barely higher than POH because despite being more open shot and long-term, it keeps a more balanced leave. Not a great one, the V kind of sucks, but at least it's not a P and a V.
>Mack_Meller: BINQ 8E NIQ.B +16 52
>Joshua_Sokol: DEHLPSV 10E VELD +18 69
#note I would play VELDS for 28, but I would rather neutralize the word on the board with easier hooks. Now BRAND can be hooked with an S and a Y, but it's not easy to achieve that, and I hold an S for NIQABS, which could prove very useful.
>Mack_Meller: AACI D3 ACAI +33 85
>Joshua_Sokol: EHOOPRS J2 HOOPERS +89 158
#note I had to really talk myself into this one. Mack held briefly as I recall. I saw the W hook but was even more unsure of that.
>Mack_Meller: GGU E10 .UGG +18 103
#note those are a lot of bad tiles at the same time
>Joshua_Sokol: GKNRTVW 4H WR.NG +26 184
#note I knew that I had the W for WHOOPERS, and if I had a play there now I would probably play it, however I didn't, so I was glad to be able to make what seemed to be the strongest play, even though it gave up my hook. V(APO)R was the other option I considered, and that retains the W for WHOOPERS while getting rid of the V, at the price of setting up an S and Y hook for an easy 40-50 points (not wanted). I unfortunately missed a slight improvement, 3C K(APO)W even when seeing I could draw a Y for Y(APO)K. I have not seen the word KAPOW in the wild in a very long time, which would explain my missing it, however I needed to find it over the board instead of thinking too long about a hook I was unsure of. WR(O)NG sims 3 points below K(APO)W and barely outclasses V(APO)R.
>Mack_Meller: AEFITU 12A FATI.UE +30 133
>Joshua_Sokol: ?CKLRTV 3C V...R +22 206
#note TR(A)CK was definitely the equity play here, but I decided to hold off on opening column A and as a result the upper part of column B as I judged that I could handle this board quite well without a significant threat on the right side. It also didn't help to set up a line on row 15. I could opt for more defense or go aggressive next turn, depending on what I draw and what he plays. However I'm prone to two-consonant draws that don't help my case, and it's nice to push the game forward, as a play down from H12 (FATIGUED or FATIGUES) is likely to occur before anything on row 15. As a result, TR(A)CK would seem the better play. Once again I didn't spot the variable that changed the way I should have approached this position: FATIGUE-D-S
>Mack_Meller: EIX K4 .IXE +41 174
>Joshua_Sokol: ?CDEKLT H12 DECK +54 260
#note I always forgo the bingo when it seems close. TiCKLED sims ever so slightly better
>Mack_Meller: AET I7 A.ET +25 199
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AELTTW A12 .LEW +30 290
#note now I make the most serious mistake of the game. Still being slightly unsure of WHOOPERS and less than a bingo ahead, I can't afford to lose a turn. I saw TWATTLE and WATTLE, and couldn't remember if they were valid. So I make a very inferior play. ATT? seemed to go with the C in DECK just as much as ETT?, and better with the K, but that's less important. Also better with the E in DECK. Given this and the prevalence of E's in the remaining tiles, I chose FLEW over FLAW. Quackle says my justifications are not enough compensation for the overall better leave. ETT? bingos 2% more on average. I dispute these numbers, because Mack likely does not have as many E's as Quackle thinks, despite his vowel-heavy play of A(B)ET
>Mack_Meller: IIII -IIII +0 199
#note ouch, what did he exchange? There are only like 4 bad tiles in the pool total
>Joshua_Sokol: ?AEEETT 14F ET.ETErA +63 353
#note Told ya, Quackle! Definitely FLEW over FLAW, I drew EEE!
>Mack_Meller: ALMOS N10 MOLAS +46 245
#note wasn't 100% on ETCETERA taking an S, but I thought it probably did, so I did not challenge here.
>Joshua_Sokol: ?EILRTY O4 InERTLY +87 440
#note also this was really dumb
>Mack_Meller: UYZ C10 YU.Z +32 277
>Joshua_Sokol: FINNOOS N4 OOF +30 470
#note OF is better than OOF.
>Mack_Meller: DDEINT L7 DINTED +24 301
#note for some reason I didn't really like this. After all of these word uncertainties, I finally lose a turn. I should have lost more turns or lost. Need to hit the books.
>Joshua_Sokol: IINNOSU - +0 470
