>Jim_Burlant: EEGIQST 8G QI +22 22
#note Round 26, aka, "Jim Embarrasses Himself With Word Knowledge, Chapter 4."
>Craig_Rowland: EGM 7H GEM +10 10
>Jim_Burlant: EEEGOST 8J OGEE +10 32
#note Hmmm. Quackle thinks I should play this for 3 more on row 6; I'd rather take out the obvious row 8 plays and set myself up for a 7 ending in S. I'd make this play again, the duck notwithstanding.
>Craig_Rowland: AEP 9H PEA +17 27
>Jim_Burlant: ACEEEST -EE +0 32
#note Not strictly necessary, but I don't like losing the T as well as the extra E's for only 13 points. I'd fish the E's off for chump change if that was available, but it isn't. This is a bit of an equity hit but this worked out.
>Craig_Rowland: CLOZ L4 CLOZ. +32 59
#note In all the years I've been playing, I have seen GLOZE and CROZE several times over, but I could not recall having seen this played before. I held this, thinking for sure he was having the same problems with the alphabet soup congealing that most of us rated under 2000 have. Overconfidence also did me in; even if I lost a challenge, I was guaranteed a bingo on my next turn, albeit for fewer points, so what did I really have to lose except a few more points' advantage?
>Jim_Burlant: AACESTX - +0 32
#note Lost challenge. Playing my bingo for 92 wins 69%. Playing it for 77 wins 64. Being a dumbass and challenging a 5-letter Z word I should have known for the last zillion years wins 53. In this game, it wins 0. Watch what happens:
>Craig_Rowland: DEINOUV 4G UNVOI.ED +65 124
#note What is he doing with this if I play EXACTAS N2 instead of needlessly throwing away a turn after he plays CROZE? EXACTAS N2 blocks N6 plays like VODUN/VIDEO and he's playing UDO for 20-something on the next turn.
>Jim_Burlant: AACESTX 10B EXACTAS +77 109
#note Not paying attention to the board: EXACTAS 5A scores 84, but a sim makes clear that's playing with fire; this wins almost as much and the equity is actually higher with this choice.
>Craig_Rowland: ?AHIORT E5 THORA.Ic +98 222
#note Nice find!!! And just desserts.
>Jim_Burlant: BDEEKLO D1 BLOKE +30 139
#note Down a zillion, I've got to open up and hope he can't defend. This is best, but my own blundering has resulted in my winning 7%.
>Craig_Rowland: HIW H1 WHI. +30 252
>Jim_Burlant: ABDDELO 1A DAB.LE +33 172
#note Or DABBED for 3 more.
>Craig_Rowland: AGILNTV B7 VAL.TING +74 326
#note When it rains, it pours.
>Jim_Burlant: DFIIORR 3B FI.RD +18 190
#note A miss. FORDID N1 scores 30 and does a much better job keeping things alive. This is weak, but the consolation: not that it matters at this point. Not even best play wins 1%.
>Craig_Rowland: INP 3M PIN +21 347
>Jim_Burlant: AIMNORU 12E .OUMARIN +74 264
#note Only bingo. I've tripled my winning chances...which means I'm now up to 1.1%.
>Craig_Rowland: ETW 8A W.TE. +27 374
>Jim_Burlant: AAFNTUY H12 .AYA +27 291
#note Just looking to open lines. FAY 2l looks an awful lot better, though this did work out.
>Craig_Rowland: EINRRSU N6 INSURER +67 441
>Jim_Burlant: ?DEFNTU 15F Fl.UNTED +62 353
#note Quackle thinks I should pass up the bingo...but really? Two in the bag, and you don't think he's going to gum up row 15? It's a cheapie, but at least I close a smidgen of ground in the end game if I put this down now. And, unbeknownst to me, JO was in the bag, so this defintely worked out best. This is my only bingo btw.
>Craig_Rowland: EOORSTY 2K TROY +33 474
>Jim_Burlant: JO C5 JO +19 372
#note One for the "what if?" category. Replaying the early game in Quackle shows that if I let CLOZE go and play EXACTAS, his best play of UDO M1 barely wins 21% and he doesn't have a whole lot to work with if he doesn't pick an S. Add this one to the list of games I certainly want back.
>Jim_Burlant: (ESS) +6 378
