#note Solid start to a game - 30 points and I hold SCK?

This has to be favorable position, right?
>Jim_Burlant: AAACDOR I7 ODA +27 27
#note Not thrilled about keeping duplicated A's, but I didn't have much choice. My only other option is to also play CODA. Q prefers that I play CODA by a smidge. I sort of see that...but I prefer keeping the C, given that I have to keep duplicated A's AND I have a C to make CODA.
>Matt_Canik: ?CGKRSW 9G C..R +18 48
#note Still seems like awesome position - setting up my S and the board is super dead. Maybe ZA(G) instead but I hate pulling 1 tile into only consonants. But it doesn't matter because...........
>Jim_Burlant: AACEIRV J1 AVARICE +82 109
#note Could that have worked out any better? Not only does it fit, but both counters hit the triple letters. CAVIARE scores 73 and 72 at 6I and J1 respectively; this scores 82, so it's best. BTW...put your seatbelts on...
>Matt_Canik: ?GKRSTW 1H ST.RK +42 90
>Jim_Burlant: ENNOPRU 5E PREUN.ON +90 199
#note Two!
>Matt_Canik: ?AAGINW L3 WA.IGANs +74 164
#note WANNIGAN is better if I know it
>Jim_Burlant: ?EMNOPT 2B PiMENTO +76 275
#note Three!
>Matt_Canik: AEELOSU 1D EAU +13 177
>Jim_Burlant: ABEIILT E5 .ITIABLE +74 349
#note Four! This also plays as more or less an air ball for 64 at B2; this scores 74 and is clearly best. By this point, Matt was laughing out loud as I was dropping bingoes on him. To give you an idea how ridiculous this is: he drew an S, blank, and a Z in his first rack...and he's trailing by 172 points after barely 5 turns.
>Matt_Canik: EEILOOS D12 OLIO +14 191
>Jim_Burlant: DEEILST C6 ISLETED +64 413
#note Five! Only bingo.
>Matt_Canik: AEEMOQS 3L .AME +18 209
#note For the lower division players reading this game, Matt's play of WAME is anything but reckless; as a matter of fact, it's a very smart move. He trails by a ridiculous amount, and he knows his odds of winning are roughly on the same order as getting hit by lightning. His only chance is to hit a 3x3 with the X and/or the J. If he doesn't open a second line this instant, all I have to do is play on row 15 to slam the door shut. By doing this, Matt ensures there are enough threats open that I can't shut everything down in one turn.
>Jim_Burlant: FHIORST 2M FOH +36 449
#note Wow, a rack that I finally had to think about. I looked for an 8, and without a Y anywhere for FORT(Y)ISH, I couldn't find one. (Turns out FORTYISH is the only thing in this group of letters). I saw this, saw that it scored 36 and left IRST, that was that. Quackle agrees - this is best.
>Matt_Canik: EGNOQSU B4 SUQ +63 272
>Jim_Burlant: HIJLRST 8K H.JIS +45 494
#note The J blinded me and I didn't shuffle tiles hard enough to recognize THIOL or LIROTH on row 15. The only thing I debated was whether I should get cute and play HAJI keeping the S to force him to defend (if he could), or just take 45 points. I opted for 45 points. The highest equity play I have is HAJI, this is second...maybe I overestimated the possibility of T(HE)triple triples to justify this play, but I'm still leaving the door open. I should probably play on row 15 with LIROTH or THIOL, Quackle notwithstanding.
>Matt_Canik: DEEGNOU O1 G..E +27 299
>Jim_Burlant: BEILRTV 15A BEV.R +30 524
#note Q gives slightly higher preference to OBVERT 15D or 15C LOVIER. Whatever - the main thing is to finally slam the door on row 15. If he hits a bingo down the N or O columns, so what? That will "only" cut my spread to 120 or thereabouts.
>Matt_Canik: ADEGNOU J9 .UG +6 305
>Jim_Burlant: DILNORT M8 .OINT +17 541
#note It's obvious from Matt's last play that he's sitting on the case A. My play, absent the ability to take out the hook, is to add resistance to row 12 so he doesn't have a wide open run at it. This also gums up the N column nicely. This doesn't show in the original options but it outsims everything else.
>Matt_Canik: ADEFNOT F4 A.F +27 332
>Jim_Burlant: DELRXYY F12 REX +31 572
#note Counterintuitive to hold the X, and even more counterintuitive to play EYRY without doubling the Y, but the duck is right: best play here is N12 EYRY. This wins by 10 fewer points than N12 EYRY.
>Matt_Canik: DENOT M8 .....ED +30 362
>Jim_Burlant: DLYY N7 Y.D +11 583
#note D1 EMYD 20. Sorry, Matt, that was just ridiculous.
