#note The rubber match with Doug! How will it go?
>Jack_Overby: AAEHIRZ 7F ZA +16 16
#note Sims bestish, but I don't love it. In the top 5 resides another super cool setup that, at this stage in my development, I'm not quite good enough to see: I8 VIA 7! Why so great? Well, it holds AEHRZ, which, aside from being a potent scoring combo, is an I/S/? away from HAZIER/HAZERS for 89!! According to my math, I have a 28.8% of getting at least one of I/S/?. Part of the reason of why it's so effective is that it looks like an X setup, which could easily lead to Doug playing something on the right side and leaving the lane intact for an H. Not sure if it's the right play, as it has a high chance of missing and/or getting blocked, but again, I wish I'd have seen it!

>Jack_Overby: AEEHIPR 5I HEAPIER +82 98
#note One of my best plays of the tournament. HEAPY is, of course, good... but it don't compare. I was almost positive it was phoney in the past, though it very well could have been added this edition (though it wasn't). I thought there was a good enough that (a) Doug wouldn't challenge (especially after losing a turn on GRAPIEST our previous game) or that (b) it would be newly acceptable, that I went for it. But it's still very risky. Though it's almost 20% better than the best valid plays (70 vs 50), if it get's challenged off, I'm down to about 35%. This implies that I need to be about 43% (3/7) confident of it getting by. So I went for it... and Lawd have mercy, Doug didn't hold or challenge. Hallelujah.

#note Best.
>Doug_Lundquist: EINW N1 NEWI. +33 96
>Jack_Overby: AKPRRRX O1 AX +42 172
#note Bad miss of 1K PRANK 36. About a 2% mistake.
>Doug_Lundquist: DEFLNOT L7 TENFOLD +76 172
#note A close game, I daresay.
>Jack_Overby: EFKPRRR 11K F.RK +22 194
#note Best.
>Doug_Lundquist: HMSUY 14J MUSHY +50 222
>Jack_Overby: EIOPRRW 15G WIRE +25 219
#note Sims better than WIPE (OPR > ORR) and WORE (OPR > IPR given I abundance in pool) in the same spot.
>Doug_Lundquist: AQT 14F QAT +39 261
>Jack_Overby: ENOPRSS 4C PERSONS +76 295
#note As my late clubmate, Victor Etienne, would have put it, "Ooh, great draw".
>Doug_Lundquist: IIIIOOU -IIIIOOU +0 261
>Jack_Overby: ?AEGNRT C2 TA.ERiNG +74 369
#note As desperately as I would have loved to play my second home (1G ARGENTiNA), I realized in the nick of time that I was probably confusing it with ARGENTINE/TANGERINE. Good thing, since when I mentioned it to Doug afterwards, he said he would have insta-challenged it. Real points > style points.
>Doug_Lundquist: ?GILRTU 2C .URTLInG +64 325
#note Well done- this is the only bingo.
>Jack_Overby: AEIOOST 1H OI +13 382
#note An unnecessary block, as there's nothing I can hit there. M13 OHO 18 is a touch better. 90% to win, regardless.
>Doug_Lundquist: EIMO 8A MO.IE +24 349
#note

>Jack_Overby: AEEOSTY A5 ATO.Y +10 392
#note Overly paranoid. While there are 30-some racks in the pool that hit the M, and only one through the F (UNBELIEF) and none through the L, it's still pretty unlikely he bingos on column M. Better to play something like O11 YEA 22, which gives me a chance to outrun if he hits a relative airball bingo. ATOMY can get outrun even without a bingo. YEA = 90%, ATOMY = 82%. A blunder.
>Doug_Lundquist: BE 13L .EB +29 378
>Jack_Overby: CDEEILS 10J DE. +16 408
#note Good enough. Maybe 10I CLEF 16 is better, to increase my chances of going out.
>Doug_Lundquist: DEIILNO L1 ION +10 388
#note 13 off E8 EIDE 10.
>Jack_Overby: CEILSU E8 .CUS +12 420
#note A whopping 18 points off ECU in the same spot, which is 16 points better than the next best play. Then again, it's hard to play a good endgame with :02 left!
>Doug_Lundquist: DEIL D11 IDLE +12 400
#note Thankfully I didn't go over, or else this might have been a tense recount.
>Doug_Lundquist: (EIL) +6 406
#note And a merry 420 to you too, Doug. Thank goodness I can't add, or else the directors would have thought I was some kind of degenerate.
Thanks to Doug's solid late play, the game ended up closer than it needed to be, though I was never really in danger after TAPERiNG.
