#player1 Jonathan_Lindh Jonathan Lindh
#player2 Jack_Overby Jack Overby
>Jonathan_Lindh: EOV 8G VOE +12 12
#note I was a bit shaken by my recent string of tough luck, but I did my best to keep my chin up. Little did I know, the winds of fortune were about to blow my way...
>Jack_Overby: EEFIORS 9H EF +20 20
#note 7I FOE has better equity, but this is the clear winner, keeping strong bingo potential while conceding minimal comebacks.
>Jonathan_Lindh: III -III +0 12
>Jack_Overby: AEFIORS 10I FA +16 36
#note One of several top plays. Interestingly, J9/10I FARO for 18 sim slightly ahead. Wouldn't have guessed it.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEINSTT K5 INSTATE +84 96
#note "Here we go again...", thought I.
>Jack_Overby: EGIJORS L11 REJIG +32 68
#note Enough fishing. Time to score. This is a shade behind of 11E GOJIS 36. I'll hold onto my S, thanks.
>Jonathan_Lindh: EEK 15L .EEK +27 123
>Jack_Overby: EEILNOS 11C OLEINES +74 142
#note There we go.
>Jonathan_Lindh: IQ 10F QI +64 187
#note Grrr(l).
>Jack_Overby: ?ADDIUV D4 DIViDUA. +78 220
#note One of my best finds of the tourney.
>Jonathan_Lindh: DTZ 5C D.TZ +28 215
>Jack_Overby: ILNOPRX C7 POX +49 269
#note Seemed automatic, but 'twasn't. INRO or LONE at column M for 30-some are best. Makes sense- score well, nab the 13M hotspot, while saving the 9C X spot for later.
>Jonathan_Lindh: BEHORRT M5 BROTHER +70 285
>Jack_Overby: IILNNNR 13L .INN +22 291
#note The only play worth considering.
>Jonathan_Lindh: AEPT H11 .PATE +30 315
#note Shocked to find an asterisk next to this. More Romance-lang confusion, I reckon. Still, I would have let it go regardless...
>Jack_Overby: DEILNRR 15B REDLIN.R +61 352
#note ...because this. 60% to win.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ABLO 14F BO.AL +29 344
#note The Phony Five Prince strikes again! I held and agonized for a good minute, but I figured I could eke it out from here.
>Jack_Overby: AACGINU O8 GUANI. +24 376
#note Obvs. Still, I'm barely above 50% to win. Challenging off BOTAL would have wrapped things up.
>Jonathan_Lindh: GIW J3 WIG +10 354
#note He had 13G WAG for 29, but not a bad try, as it's difficult for me to deal with this spot if I don't have one of the four outstanding hooking tiles (?SST).
>Jack_Overby: ACHMSTU 2F CHUMS +30 406
#note Very weak. I searched in vain for a 2J five, but found nothing but SAUCH, of which I was, para variar, not quite sure. As it turns out, there were many, all of which were beyond my knowledge. This is around 73% to win, whereas 2J SUMAC 32 is at 92%, due to the H hook which I happen to hold.
>Jonathan_Lindh: LRY H1 R.LY +33 387
>Jack_Overby: ACEOTUY N2 COTE +16 422
#note Yet another execrable preendgame play, though it at least wins 8/8. Mistracking + poor time management skills = this crap! At least it leaves me G5 AY for 26.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AAMOSW 12A MAWS +55 442
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AAMOSW -- -55 387
#note A forced desperation try. Surprisingly, though, Jon has a swath of plays that lose by a mere 1 point! 6F AtMA 20 and ilk block my DITZ/Y hook and leave him OSW to go out profitably in multiple spots (14A and O3). Quite tricky to see in-game, though.
>Jack_Overby: AOUY G4 OY +28 450
#note No goodo. D13 OUD 4 and 3M YOU are 13 better, guaranteeing me nice-scoring outplays. I leave myself only 11E EAU 3 as an outplay, which Jon should block, but I figured he wouldn't.
>Jonathan_Lindh: ?AAMOSW 13G M.W +33 420
#note Another tough endgame play for Jon. 13E SOMAtA 27 blocks EAU and leaves him multiple good AW spots.
>Jack_Overby: AU E11 .AU +3 453
#note Best, finally.
>Jack_Overby: (?AAOS) +8 461
#note Happy 420 to you too, Jon. Despite my abundance of blunders in the second half of the game, I was able to squeak it out. I'll take it.

At this point, our second cycle had ended, and I stood at 7-7, in the middle of the pack with middling spread. KOTH was now upon us. My goal at the time was merely to reach double digit wins. Expectations would soon be adjusted upwards.
