>BJ: ADGGLRS 8D GLARD +18 18
>BJ: ADGGLRS -- -18 0
#note I can't score well but all I need is an E for a bingo. I decide to try something I've never tried before: play an intentional phony, which Mark will probably challenge off, and hope he doesn't realize that I did it on purpose in hopes of a bingo next turn. GLARD* sounds plausible enough to be a Collins word, right? I mean, just about anything could plausibly be a Collins word.

>BJ: ADGGLRS G2 DRAGGL.S +64 64
>BJ: CINNSSY (challenge) +5 69
#note As we walked up to the challenge computer, Mark said something humorously about an intentional phony, so I thought he was on to me and would pass or exchange. But he didn't, and my ploy worked. I felt kinda bad, but not too bad. :)
>Mark_F: LLOV 4D OLL.V +24 56
#note Nice find.

>Mark_F: CET 12J TEC +14 231
>BJ: EFNRSTT 10J FET +31 179
#note The tiles just aren't coming together for me. Not feeling good at this point, but at least this play scores and opens things up.

>Mark_F: AHIU 12B HUIA +18 286
>BJ: AFIOSTU 1B FOU +13 231
#note I put this up in the corner out of the way in hopes of keeping the board open longer. The other blank is still unseen, I'm hoping it comes my way ...
>Mark_F: IMR 13A RIM +23 309
>BJ: AEEINST 1H ...E +13 244
#note And I blow my big chance. How did I miss ETESIAN? Well that word has given me problems before, but I thought I looked for it explicitly here. Or maybe I thought of ESERINE ... those two have both given me trouble. Anyway, I missed it. Ugh.
>Mark_F: AAIW L6 AWAI. +9 318
#note Mark goes for the blocking play, but it leaves room ...
>BJ: AEINPST M2 PANTIES +80 324
#note I'm lucky, for the moment. Theother blank is still unseen. And the Z. Surely he must have the blank ...
>Mark_F: DENU L1 DUNE +41 359
#note That was a good spot for a play. I was hoping somehow he'd leave it, so I could play SOKE for lotsa points. We mis-scored this for 42 instead of 41. This was the only scoring error in all of my 7 games during this tournament. Man, so close to perfect!
>BJ: EKORSTU A13 .OK +21 345
#note I wanted to ditch the U and K and almost played RUK* but glad I didn't. I presume Mark has the blank and maybe also the Z so my hopes are very slim, but one never knows. I also assume Mark is going to block column N if he thinks I can bingo, though a K in row 15 isn't a particularly promising lane.
>Mark_F: EINOOPZ 5I .EZ +30 389
#note I did not see EPIZOON, and thankfully nor did Mark. He saw I had bingo prone tiles and so I am expecting a column N block here, but he surprised me. He later said that possible blocking plays he considered seemed to open up new lanes.
>BJ: ?AERSTU N8 STAtURE +69 414
#note I had been searching in row 15 assuming the column N block. Had I played RUK* last turn and gotten away with it (unlikely), I observed that I would be able to play KREASOTE. STATURE is the first thing I see, so I put it down in a bit of disbelief that I have won the game ... and the tournament! I was a little bit good and definitely lucky. Much respect to my opponents and particularly Mark, who had an off couple of games after recently making mince meat out of me.
