>John_Karris: APZ 8G ZAP +28 28
>Jim_Burlant: AEEEEIS I7 E.EE +8 8
#note Yikes! I debated between two choices: EPEE I7 or exchanging EEEI. It was a tough call because (a) AEIS was a little vowel heavy and (b) I was reducing an S hook from ZAPS to EPEES, all for a measly 8 points. A sim says I never saw the best play, but I'm not sure I'm buying; Quackle says 9G AE for 17, keeping EEEIS is best. Not sure what I'd do if I had this turn to do again.
>John_Karris: ACORRT H10 TROCAR +29 57
>Jim_Burlant: AEEEIIS -EEII +0 8
#note Seriously? This time the only question is whether to exchange 4 or 5. This is not the start I wanted.
>John_Karris: ABEHKLT -5 +0 57
>Jim_Burlant: AACEEST 15E ACE.ATES +61 69
#note Whoops! The alphabet soup congeals and forces me into a mistake. I mistakenly thought TEPEE was no good; TEPEE is good, and the phony is TEVEE*. Convinced I had nowhere to play the legitimate bingo, I thought I needed to phony here. I knew this was phony, but given the confusion I've seen mid 1800's experts have over whether it was ACIERATE or ACERATE that took the back S, I was fairly sure this would stick. This wasn't so much as held.
>John_Karris: FOY G6 FO.Y +24 81
>Jim_Burlant: AHILMMN D12 MAIL +26 95
#note Awful. I saw the L front hook and completely forgot that ACERATES also takes an M. MALM or HALM are the plays here.
>John_Karris: EGINSTU E7 GUNITES +72 153
>Jim_Burlant: ?HILMNU C13 HM +30 125
#note The only bingos in this rack are HUMBLING, MULCHING, and HELENIUM, which means I'm not bingoing this turn. Unfortunately I burned several minutes figuring that out. As for this position, the best play here is utterly sick: if you see INASMUCH on row 13, my hat goes off to you. This is best of the rest.
>John_Karris: ANQRT L10 TRANQ. +30 183
>Jim_Burlant: ?ILNSUW J10 WIN +28 153
#note With nowhere to play UNWISELY, this is best. 41% to win.
>John_Karris: DKU 13J DU.K +26 209
>Jim_Burlant: ?ADILSU N8 DUALISt +78 231
#note The curse of the blank rack strikes again. I saw N8 bingoes like DUALISt, etc., very quickly, but didn't immediately put them down because I had to rule out if a J column bingo could back hook ZAP and not give back all the easy points the N8 bingoes did. After burning several more minutes confirming what Quackle does - that my only J column bingoes start at J1 and play for 62 - I put this down. While the three bingoes initially top a 2-ply sim and are indistinguishable in terms of how they sim, past 1500-1600 iteratins a 4th option percolates to the top: QADI 14L for 34, keeping the blank. Just shy of 46% to win.
>John_Karris: INOV O5 VINO +30 239
>Jim_Burlant: EEEGLTV H1 VEGETE +38 269
#note Not at all thrilled about having to burn all my E's, but I don't have much choice. This is best and this is the first time I'm above 50% to win. 59%, as a matter of fact.
>John_Karris: IX D8 XI +36 275
>Jim_Burlant: BGILNWY 4C BYLIN. +22 291
#note Yuck. GYBING 3H is obviously much better than this. Would have been nice if I had seen it.
>John_Karris: ABFHORS F10 FAH +40 315
>Jim_Burlant: ?EGOORW C9 WOG +21 312
#note Too much time spent here. I saw OVERGROW 1G, but felt that with the unseen pool, it was way too dangerous - if he's got NOD or SOD in his rack, I'm playing for 65 and giving back 57. Then, I wpent another few minutes trying to find the other bingoes that weren't there. Since I hate N-less G's, this was the next best thing I saw, but I wasted way too much time deciding this.
>John_Karris: BDIR 2E BID.R +10 325
>Jim_Burlant: ?EEOPRS I2 .OSE +23 335
#note Even though I looked for OVER words on row 1, I couldn't find OVERSTEP. I was also down under 2 minutes by now. At this piont I figured that, with the blank in hand, I didn't need the bingo so I slapped this down. The surprise is that the sim agrees with this choice; I'd have thought for sure that OVERSTEP would be the winner.
>John_Karris: JO C2 JO. +24 349
#note So now, after deciding I didn't need the bingo, I try another phony? Somebody shoot me. Admittedly I don't have any really good options here, which may have forced my hand in trying this. By now I was almost out of time. He challenged this, thinking he was going to lose a desperation challenge. My annotation stops here. I shuffle tiles to end the game and for good measure, go 50 seconds over on time. Final score: My loss 342 - 389. A total f$%k-up.
