>Fran_Silver: AHMS 8G HAM +16 16
#note She had flashed the S prior to putting down her opening play.
>Jim_Burlant: ?EHOORU 9G OHO +24 24
#note If you whiff on the bingo as I did, this or the same word at 7G is best of the rest. I never saw OUTHOMER, which would have scored 65 at I3.
>Fran_Silver: FO 7G OF +22 38
>Jim_Burlant: ?EMPRUU -MPUU +0 24
#note So of course, I'm sitting on another U. Can somebody other than me draw 2 u's by their second turn? Anyway - the only thing I saw was EUROPIUM, which didn't play. Not really necessary to exchange here, but I was getting tired of being a U magnet. I'd normally keep the M or P, but the way this tournament was going I didn't want to be overloaded with counters. Big equity hit here, but this worked out.
>Fran_Silver: ?CKRSSU J2 SUCKeRS +73 111
>Jim_Burlant: ?BEIILR 5D BIRdLI.E +102 126
#note The only other bingoes are F9 BILGIER and RISIBLE/LIMBIER/BILGIER at 10I. This is clearly best.
>Fran_Silver: ATU 4B UTA +14 125
>Jim_Burlant: ADEGLTY 3C AGLEY +36 162
#note Strong choice, but not best per the duck. Better would have been B2 GAUDY for 36. But back in control, at 60% to win.
>Fran_Silver: ABDE 2F BADE. +29 154
>Jim_Burlant: DDLNORT 1G NOD +30 192
#note Yes, I held BADES* and was 90% sure it was bogus. However: look at this board, and look at my rack. Letting it go meant I didn't have to take the 10% chance of losing my turn, and it allowed me to actually add one point to my lead. I'm now leading by 38, and if she somehow does manage to score well, she's going to open all sorts of lines through which I can play. And if she isn't bingoing or hitting with one of JQXZ, what is she going to do on this board? As for this choice - this, DOT, or DON...any of them is as good as the other.
>Fran_Silver: OW 4J .OW +18 172
>Jim_Burlant: CDLLRTW 3I W.D +26 218
#note Just enough points available that I don't have to exchange. Still treading water from a win percentage standpoint: 62% to win.
>Fran_Silver: EOTT 10I TOTE +11 183
>Jim_Burlant: ACLLRST M2 CALL +21 239
#note L9 CELL leaving ARST was tempting, but it gives up way too many back hooks. This clears out the consonant overload and, if I can draw some vowels, RST could get promising in a hurry. This is best - now 84% to win. For reference - CELL L9 wins 2% less often at a deficit of 6 points.
>Fran_Silver: EINNV 11H VENIN +30 213
>Jim_Burlant: INNRRST L9 R..IN +10 249
#note Here we go again; for what felt like the umpteenth time in this tournament, I kept RST and did nothing but duplicate everything in my rack. No good plays are available and I should probably just maximize the rack grooming. Per the duck, 6J ERN is best, but I don't know if I like it; INRST is one consonant too heavy for my liking. That said, ERN would have prevented her next play:
>Fran_Silver: AQTU 13I QUA.T +48 261
>Jim_Burlant: AEFNRST N10 FETAS +47 296
#note Sigh. AENRST is in my rack and I predictably land an F to kill the rack. I seriously considered I5 IF to fish, but here was the problem I saw: assuming she didn't keep an A when she played QUANT, drawing 4 tiles from this bag she still has a 1 in 4 chance of having an A for (QUANT)A back hooks. And FAIK, maybe she was overloaded with A's and kept them so she could guarantee herself a hook? Anyway, if that line went away, then there was way too much chance for my liking that my fish would yield a no-go. Given all that, in my mind back hooking QUANT for 47 points justified the play. Quackle thinks I should have fished with I5 IF and it doesn't like this much. YMMV.
>Fran_Silver: AIMOOPT 7F O.. +6 267
>Jim_Burlant: INNPRUX 14F UNPIN +26 322
#note Right idea, wrong execution. UNRIP in the same spot scores 36 to this play's 26. The sim says I'm in good shape at 80%.I was not feeling at all that certain about this; best case, I thought she would probably bingo soon and I would simply be in a deuce game.
>Fran_Silver: I H14 .I +12 279
>Jim_Burlant: ADEEORX O8 OXER +40 362
#note After this turn, however, I started feeling a whole lot safer. This is once again the wrong execution of the right idea. Better would have apparently been EXEDRA O5. Not only does that score 7 more, but it gives me two more cracks at the bag for the J, S, or Z. Still in good shape though, just shy of 96% to win.
>Fran_Silver: EGI E7 GIE +12 291
>Jim_Burlant: ADEEJRV 10B JEED +34 396
#note Considered 6L RAJ but then I noticed the line she opened up for a bunch of easy 7's. I felt the best defense was a good offense. This scores 34, which pushes my lead to 105 points; even if she can bingo, it won't be enough. And if she's bingoing, it probably means I'll be drawing the Z. Q agrees - this is best.
>Fran_Silver: GP C9 P.G +9 300
>Jim_Burlant: AEIMRVZ 6L MAZE +42 438
#note RAZE in the same location leaving a VIM out on row 13 looks a smidge better.
>Fran_Silver: AEIRSTY 12C STRAY +23 323
>Jim_Burlant: IRV O3 RIV. +8 446
>Jim_Burlant: (EI) +4 450
