#note I'm in my 11th year of playing. In all the years I've played, it's never been a good omen when my round-1 opponent's opponent's opening rack is an easy to find blank bingo.
>Jim_Burlant: ABGIORS 7I BOG +19 19
#note After spending roughly 1-1/2 minutes looking for the 8 that wasn't there (GARBOILS, which I saw, is the only 8 in this rack), I saw this and put it down. I mostly had the right idea, though Quackle feels I should part with the I and play BIOG.
>Darrell_Day: IQ 9C QI +25 103
>Jim_Burlant: AAAIRSU 10A ARIA +22 41
#note AAU certainly wasn't the draw I was looking for. Without an open M, this rack is about as useless as it gets. I initially considered QUASI/QUAIS C9, but (a) didn't want to part with the S and (b) didn't like the AAR leave. I never thought of QUASAR, but I'm not sure I like that either. Then I saw this. Not thrilled about the board position, but I felt that if something had to give, I should at least keep the S so I could hook something down the L column. The sim says QUASAR is best; QUAIS/ QUASI are close runners-up, and this is worth honorable mention, albeit at a deficity of roughly 1% winning chances and not quite 4-1/2 equity points. The sad thing: it only got worse from here.
>Darrell_Day: KO A8 KO. +21 124
>Jim_Burlant: AGOSUVZ L3 VAGUS +25 66
#note Yuck. With UV in my rack, I can't score 38 with ZOA at B6, since keeping GSUV is a recipe for losing. What I can't figure out is how I didn't see VUGG K4, which should have been the obvious play. The consolation: it didn't matter.
>Darrell_Day: AMOT 6G ATOM +29 153
>Jim_Burlant: AHOOUXZ B6 ZOA +38 104
#note I'm playing poorly...and drawing even worse. Get rid of a U, get another one right back, and I can't unload it. At least I got this play right. 16% winning chances, woo hoo.
>Darrell_Day: ADG C5 GAD +23 176
>Jim_Burlant: BHHIOUX D4 BOX +46 150
#note Unreal. I had to keep an H and I couldn't unload the U on my previous turn. So, with all sorts of positive consonants unseen, I draw a duplicated H? Seriously? At any rate there's not much I can do here. Keeping HHIU sucks, but 46 points is 46 points, and it's not like I can get a third H. At this point I was leery. While my X and Z had kept me in the game, I wasn't drawing any rack fragments from which I could manufacture a bingo. My gut said this was going to get ugly soon. 19% winning chances, and as you'll see, my gut was right on.
>Darrell_Day: EELRSTT 11D SETTLER +70 246
#note Best bingo would have been LETTERS in the same location. It tells you a lot about how this game went for me that I was never even able to make him pay for opening up the S hook at K11.
>Jim_Burlant: HHINTTU E3 HIT +24 174
#note No real standouts here. It's either this or E2 UNIT. Neither play wins 7%. Yippee.
>Darrell_Day: EJT F2 JET +36 282
>Jim_Burlant: EHNORUV 3H UNRO.E +20 194
#note I cannot read my handwriting, so I cannot tell if my rack was EHNORUV or EHNORUU. Either way, I whiffed on my best play. If I had the duplicated U's, I whiffed on UNHURT at H1. If I had EHNORUV, my best play was G1 NOH. Not that I'm thrilled with this, mind you, but the consolation I can draw is that this game was over ages ago; It's just equity I'm punting at this point.
>Darrell_Day: AI 10J AI +8 290
>Jim_Burlant: AHRSUVY K2 H.YA +31 225
#note Is it too much to ask that if I'm stuck with UV, I can at least draw them when UVEA/VAU, etc. play somewhere?
>Darrell_Day: ?DEILOT N1 LEnTOID +77 367
>Jim_Burlant: ILLRSUV 1L VI.L +33 258
#note Not that it really matters, but one other option that looks interesting is ERVIL I11. I never saw it during the game, but that's the only play that offers the microscopic chance of getting back into the game.
>Darrell_Day: DOW O6 DOW +27 394
>Jim_Burlant: EIRRSUW L9 WRIER +19 277
>Darrell_Day: INP 13J PI.N +12 406
>Jim_Burlant: EELNSUY M8 LEY +20 297
#note And that's just about right. I've had UV in my rack TWICE, and after playing off the 3rd U 2 turns ago, now I have UY in my rack as well. Greeeat.
>Darrell_Day: F 10I F.... +16 422
>Jim_Burlant: CEENNSU H11 .UNES +18 315
#note No clue. The consolation: I don't have a play that blocks him from bingoing with ERMINES on row 14.
>Darrell_Day: EEIMNRS 13A REINSME. +72 494
>Darrell_Day: (CEFNU) +20 514
#note When you have UV in your rack three different times, UY twice, and it takes 7 turns to see your first E...it just ain't your game.
