#player1 Jim_Burlant Jim Burlant
#player2 Ken_Kasney Ken Kasney
>Jim_Burlant: ?FLLLST -FLLL +0 0
#note No brainer here - the only decision is whether to exchange FLLL or FLL. A sim also points out another exchange that's a good choice: with only one L and 5 T's still unseen, exchanging FLLT keeping LS? is also viable.
>Ken_Kasney: BEIOT 8D BOITE +20 20
>Jim_Burlant: ?JNQSTW -JQW +0 0
#note This position took a while. I considered the obvious JEW H7/JOW E7. I rejected JOW because the JOW(ED) or JOW(AR) extensions were too easy. So why not JEW? I couldn't see myself myself leaving a potentially unplayable Q for only 13 points. Quackle disagrees and says I should play JEW. In theory I see why. If Ken doesn't have an I or U, I have a roughly 2-in-7 chance to draw one for QIS 10F or SUQ 10H on the next turn. And, failing that, I'm guessing the duck would tell me to burn all the ammo to play either SuQ or QiS. Maybe so, but I don't buy it. If I'm going to exchange, I should probably exchange the N as well.
>Ken_Kasney: AHINT 9B HAINT +17 37
>Jim_Burlant: ?NORSTT I2 iNTORTS +66 66
#note Looking at Zyzzyva now, it confirms what I spent several minutes figuring out when I analyzed this position: there are no 8's ending in E from H1. Best bingo is either this or 10F STeNTOR.
>Ken_Kasney: IKQU 6F QUI.K +48 85
>Jim_Burlant: EEHMPRS K6 SPHERE +41 107
#note An annoying rack: it looks like there should be something, but there isn't. This didn't feel quite right but I couldn't put my finger on why. Possessing an S with only 2 unseen, I should probably be more patient and leave QUIRK back hooks alone for now. 10A HM scores 26 and leaves a reasonably promising EEPRS.
>Ken_Kasney: WZ 2H W.Z +34 119
>Jim_Burlant: EGMSTTV 12K SEV +24 131
#note The only thing impressive about this play is how awful it is. I was panicked by my consonant-overloaded draw vis-a-vis the spot he opened at H1 and I brain farted. If I was going to compensate for the one opening he made by opening another spot, then I should have been willing to make sure the other one was just as easy to hit. Instead, I shut the board down on myself. Brilliant. The equity play is 10B MEG for 33. If I wanted to forego equity and open up, VEST (which takes a back A) would have been reasonable. SEV is a special kind of stupid.
>Ken_Kasney: ACCE 1E CECA +39 158
>Jim_Burlant: DFGMNST -DFGM +0 131
#note I'm playing poorly but these consonant overloaded draws aren't helping, either. The only play-through option that makes sense is L11 DEFT or TUFTS G5. I dind't like DEFT for only 11 and I never saw TUFTS. This? Meh.
>Ken_Kasney: AEEFLR 4D REFLA.E +22 180
>Jim_Burlant: BENOSTU 11D TUBENOS. +70 201
#note Only bingo. Back in the game at just over 50% winning chances.
>Ken_Kasney: AMM 12C MAM +22 202
>Jim_Burlant: OOPTUVY 13B YOU +23 224
#note Frazzled by now. 13C YUP scores 40 and is much much better than this. This is pathetic.
>Ken_Kasney: LOW 14A LOW +30 232
>Jim_Burlant: EIOPTVY E1 .OV.Y +26 250
#note A trap that's very easy to fall into is that, when you have too many racks that don't balance, you can make a suboptimal play simply because you finally have the chance for a rack that comes together. Statically this is far and away my best option. A sim tells a drastically different story for good reason, as you'll see in a moment. The play I should have made was 3C TOPI for 23. This lost me any chance at the game:
>Ken_Kasney: ?DEX 2B DEt.X +81 313
#note Only after clocking COVEY did I realize the danger I had created and I was planning to go out of my way to address it on the next turn. Unfortunately for me, bad play was going to be amplified by even worse luck: he had just drawn the X after his last play!
>Jim_Burlant: AEGIPRT M9 GRI.ET +24 274
#note Doing this to create a fork and leave myself bingo lines. The equity play is 1A GIP for 25, but I don't think that really helps me much on this board. I need places to bingo and fast.
>Ken_Kasney: AAJ 10H AJA. +28 341
>Jim_Burlant: ADDINPR 1A DIP +25 299
#note Wow, I got one play right in a row, but this is bleak: I've played my way down to 9% winning chances.
>Ken_Kasney: AGN 12G NAG +22 363
>Jim_Burlant: ADFLNRU N13 FAD +23 322
>Ken_Kasney: DI 15A ID +22 385
>Jim_Burlant: IILNNRU 10A LIN +14 336
>Ken_Kasney: AEEGILO N5 GOALIE +18 403
>Jim_Burlant: INORRU O6 IRON +26 362
#note You can't beat anyone at any level when you get maybe 3 plays right out of 12. This was awful on my end, strictly pathetic.
>Ken_Kasney: E J2 .E. +14 417
>Ken_Kasney: (RU) +4 421
