>Paul_Holser: ABF 8G FAB +16 16
>Jim_Burlant: AAAFRVW 9F VAW +21 21
#note No particular standout to choose from. Other reasonable options include FAVA 7H or 9F VARA. Pick your poison.
>Paul_Holser: EGT 10G GET +17 33
>Jim_Burlant: AAFIRTV J9 FAVA +19 40
#note Best. J9 TAV , 11I AVA, J9 VAT/VAIR are also reasonable choices.
>Paul_Holser: ?AEGLNY -4 +0 33
>Jim_Burlant: EHIINRT 12J .HI +12 52
#note Telltale sign #143 that I'm having a crappy tournament: Barely 3 turns into game number 3, I've had one playable bingo and am already sitting on my 5th no-go of the tournament. Anyway, a fish is called for, but where? Quackle likes I12 HI; I don't. K12 isn't much better IMO, so that left this. Quackle notwithstanding I'd make this play again.
>Paul_Holser: ?DERRSS M9 DRESSeR +75 108
#note Play incorrectly scored as 74.
>Jim_Burlant: EHIINRT 15I INHE.IT +33 85
#note As Yogi Berra would have said, it's like deja vu all over again. Twice. Not only do I have the same rack as last turn's no-go, but it's still a no-go. I considered this and HIREE on row 14. HIREE keeps more of the rack toegether. But HIREE gives back counterplay on row 15 and potentially down the O column if he has an S. This choice doesn't. Additionally, it outscores HIREE by 3. All that factored into why I chose it. This is best.
>Paul_Holser: DEK 14L D.KE +33 141
>Jim_Burlant: GINORRY 14F GYRO +14 99
#note This is a group of letters that looks like it should score a lot more, but not on this board. The play is either this choice or, if you like to live dangerously, the same word at N6 for 15. The L column placement gums up too much of the board IMO. 19% to win.
>Paul_Holser: LO 11J .OL. +26 167
>Jim_Burlant: ?INORTU L3 ROUTINe +66 165
#note Other options are TURIONS/NITROUS at 11A for 69; this play scores 66, so I felt it wasn't worth it to play at 11A for only 3 more points. Championship Player gives the slimmest of preferences (0.5 points, 1/2% winning percentage) to the K3 placement of this word, but it makes clear I was correct to not slot the triple with NITROUS/TURIONS. Those plays win roughly 4 - 5% less often than this chioce. Regardless, the way this shook out I sure wish I had played NITROUS 11A:
>Paul_Holser: EINQSUU 11A UNIQUES +90 257
>Jim_Burlant: AEGOORT A10 O.TAGE +24 189
#note If I had played NITROUS on the previous turn, he'd have still bingoed with UNIQUEST C4, but I would be playing ROOTAGE where I just played ROUTINE. Instead, I'm looking at my 7th no-go in 3 games. Anything is pretty much as good as anything else at this point; AERUGO, which I never recognized, scores 3 more and will do a better job keeping the northwest alive. Best of all, however, may be to let the A column dangle and balance the rack with GOO 15D for 12.
>Paul_Holser: ACLP C9 PL.CA +24 281
>Jim_Burlant: ACORRTZ 3J AR.OZ +28 217
#note Best. Nothing else worth considering.
>Paul_Holser: AEIN N2 A.INE +32 313
>Jim_Burlant: CIMPRTT O6 TRIM +20 237
#note I considered taking out 2F with something like PACT but didn't like the idea of floating the front E hook for him, and I didn't look for anything keeping both of my T's. This is a small mistake; with no T's unseen, CRIMP 2F looks best, but the only difference is equity at this point. CRIMP wins 1.86%, this wins 1.44 and sims 3 points down.
>Paul_Holser: BOX B13 BOX +44 357
>Jim_Burlant: CEENOPT D3 POTENCE +82 319
#note The 4D placement scores 76; this scores 82, but whatever. I can't win this game...or can I?
>Paul_Holser: DEIW E2 WIDE +27 384
>Jim_Burlant: AEEJLNO J2 J.NE +27 346
>Paul_Holser: DILMSUY 6G YIDS +24 408
#note With DRESSeR misscored, we had the score as 383 - 346. As for this, Paul saw DUM(PI)LY on row 3 but wasn't entirely sure of it, and he made a smart decision. He did the math and recognized that if I challenged DUMPILY off the board, I had two outs for 13 points and would win by 2. As long as he scores anything back hooking JANE, he'll win.
>Jim_Burlant: AELO 15D ALOE +13 359
#note Play incorrectly scored as 14. Absolutely nothing I could do about this. When your total equity loss through 10 turns is in single digits and you're at 1% winning chances, it just isn't your game.
