#player1 BJ BJ
#player2 Sam_K Sam K
>BJ: IORUVXY 8H IVORY +30 30
#note Game 6, I'm 4-1 going in, I know Sam is good but I'm feeling confident after my results up to this point. We'll see if I can keep it going. Not much else to consider here. Quackle agrees that this play is best.
>Sam_K: EFU 9J FEU +18 18
>BJ: DEEHIUX M9 DEXIE +40 70
#note 2 for 2 on the top Quackle picks so far. K4 HEXE(RE)I is a distant second. I like the leave, too ... well, at least if Sam doesn't block up the column N hotspot, though there's a pretty good chance he will.
>Sam_K: GNOOZ 12J OOZ.NG +36 54
>BJ: EHMMRSU 11D HUMMERS +80 150
#note Lucky draw for me. It's a few more points at 14G but opens up the TWS hotspot in row 15.
>Sam_K: ABEGNRS 14G BANGERS +78 132
#note Quackle prefers GRABENS here for good reason: it doesn't put a vowel right next to the TWS at 15H.
>BJ: ?ABCENT 15B CABiNET +99 249
#note I saw CABINET as soon as I took the tiles out of the bag, and didn't find anything else. H2 BACTERIN is the only other one, but it sims way lower than several other short plays hitting 15H because that is such a lucrative spot, dangerous to leave open.
>Sam_K: HLLOU 13C HULLO +24 156
>BJ: AEILSST N9 SAI. +28 277
#note Jeez, I don't have any recollection of the word SALTIES, that's depressing. ELASTINS I know but didn't see the brilliant slot for it in column N. I'm happy with my play, though, as it scores points and takes away a lane when I have the lead. The only really good lanes at the moment are in rows 7 & 9, perhaps column H through the I. Quackle also likes SAIN among the non-bingos. That and SAINT, and also XI for a fishing play.
>Sam_K: NQTTU H6 QU.NT.T +17 173
#note A nice little find here by Sam, though it closes the board somewhat when he's a ways behind.
>BJ: AAELSTT O12 .ELT +15 292
#note Quackle likes F9 TAM the best, I guess to open a lane for my bingo-prone leave. But during the game I felt that I really wanted to keep the board more closed. GELT wasn't so great but I ran out of ideas. Saw TALAQ but that also opens things up a lot. Quackle likes that play quite a bit too.
>Sam_K: ADEJR K5 JAR..D +28 201
>BJ: AADISTY L4 DAY +28 320
#note Quackle likes 7J D(R)AY a lot better than the next best play here. Perhaps it doesn't like DAY as much because DAY allows for a lot of high-scoring follow-up plays parallel to it?
>Sam_K: COP M3 COP +29 230
>BJ: AIISTWW 2J WAIST +40 360
#note I always have to think my way through the S-C-vowel-P words carefully for some reason. Luckily I did that and was convinced that SCOP is valid. Opening up two lanes here, but I have a big enough lead that it seems worth the risk.
>Sam_K: AFGO 1H GOAF +34 264
>Sam_K: ?AEINNP (challenge) +5 269
#note GOAF looked so weird to me. After the game something triggered my memory and I did remember learning it. But at this moment, I handed over 5 extra points.
>BJ: DEEEIIW N4 EEW +31 391
#note Ick. I liked N4 EEW here because it left me with the DE for a parallel follow-up if Sam didn't take it. With a blank out, I think he's probably not far from a bingo so maybe he'll be less likely to go for this spot than to balance his rack (or actually bingo). Having the two I's is not good but seems to be my best choice. Quackle likes it a lot too, and also 3H IDEE for some reason.
>Sam_K: ?AEINNP 3E PANNIEr +71 340
#note Ah, here's the bingo. Quackle likes PEANING and NEAPING in that spot better, presumably because the TWS and the K still unseen.
>BJ: DEEIIKO 2F KOI +39 430
#note Very tempting to play DEKE or DEEK in column O for 47, but I see that Sam has OVA at best, and so there's a good chance he'll not play there anyway. So I go with KOI and hope to get any one of the remaining consonants to be able to play in column O next turn. Clogs up the board a little, but there are still decent lanes in rows 4 & 9. But with no E's left it will be tough for him to bingo. Championship player prefers KI to KOI, maybe because it makes bingos impossible in row 4 since he'd have to hook the last letter onto IN to make a three-letter word? Not sure. KOI is runner up choice, though.
>Sam_K: AIRT 4D RAIT +22 362
>Sam_K: AIRT -- -22 340
#note Didn't notice ONT* for a second, but the bag is empty so no need to hold the play. I challenge and it comes off. I wonder if he meant to play it at 4C instead.
>BJ: DEEIOV O5 DOVE +44 474
#note Did not know VOIDEE for the sweet out-play at 4A! But was very happy to draw the V for maximum points in column N, as hoped. Wanted to play DEVO but something inside me always says "no, that's a band". So I went with DOVE to be safe. DEVI would have been better so's I could play L12 ZERO on the next turn. Or DEEV followed by ZORI. Oh well.
>Sam_K: AIILRRT 4B LITAI +21 361
#note LITAI scores the most.
>BJ: EI B4 .IE +5 479
#note Highest outplay with IE was just 5.
>BJ: (RR) +4 483
#note Can't believe I'm 5-1 against this tough field. I feel as though I've been good but also lucky. I have the attitude that I can beat anybody at the moment but also know that my good drawing is not likely to continue indefinitely. Just managing my expectations a little. :)
