>Joey_K: FOPU H7 POUF +18 18
>BJ: EEGIINO -OEI +0 0
#note Well, exchanging seemed the obvious thing to me, but Quackle likes numerous other small plays instead. I should've looked more. I7 EINE would've been nice, but other 2-letter vowel dumps simmed best.
>Joey_K: AAEHILN 7G A.HELIAN +69 87
>Joey_K: EOW (challenge) +5 92
#note I was intimidated playing Joey (first time) to begin with, so when APHELIAN went down so soon I got a bad feeling about the way the game was going to go. I think I knew APHELION (definitely know PERIHELION from RL), but all I could think was OPHELIAN*. Anyway, I handed over the 5 points.
>BJ: ADEGINO K7 .OADING +18 18
#note I didn't know GALENOID (only bingo). I decided I really didn't want to fish this early on, down 92 to a strong player, fearing the hole might only get much deeper. So I decided to go for tile turnover in hopes to draw some power tiles. I'm strong (relatively) on short words, not great on 7s/8s (relatively), so I hoped this decision would play to my strengths, even though it sims terribly. Also, a bit embarrassed that I didn't just find and play ODEA in one of a couple of places for 25+ points. Oy.
>Joey_K: EOW 8M WOE +25 117
>BJ: BDESTTV J6 V.T +16 34
#note Jeez, must've been playing with my eyes closed. Played VET, yet missed the obvious much nicer VETTED in the same place. Surprised to learn BETTED is valid too. Well, at least VET still sims reasonably well, and I did like the idea of opening up the top of the board with the E front hook.
>Joey_K: EFI 10F FI.E +18 135
>BJ: BDDEJST 9G B.D +23 57
#note BUD was not a bad choice, JETS has a crappy leave, I don't keeping the J one more turn, there are some possibilities for it if I draw more than one lousy vowel.
>Joey_K: EI 13K .IE +8 143
#note Joey's fighting through some ugliness it seems. I feel lucky this game hasn't blown open yet, but I figure there's a bingo likely coming soon ....
>BJ: DEJOSTU 5E JOUSTED +117 174
#note I've never been more happy to draw OU. I quickly see 11A JOUSTED and start grabbing my tiles before I catch myself and force myself to look around. OMG don't forget the E hook you intentionally opened up. It's in exactly the right place. I was very lucky here.
>Joey_K: EE E5 .EE +10 153
#note I was not cognizant enough of this play as a lane-opening play, but I see that now ...
>BJ: AGIKLYZ 12J I.KY +39 213
#note Did not know LAZY was a verb -- 12F LAZYING is nice, but 8A ZYGAL is better. Completely missed looking for JEEL words. I'm missing too much. I did consciously decide to keep the Z (instead of playing ZINKY) because H1 and, along with the A, 4D seemed like spots where I would be likely to score well on my next turn with the Z. There were a bunch of other better plays here, too. I missed a lot.
>Joey_K: ?EEIRSV D6 ERoSIVE +72 225
#note Just learned the word IVRESSE (drunkenness).
>BJ: AAEGLPZ C3 PLAZA +50 263
#note Went for PLAZA instead of some other options. They all simmed well, and this scored the most. Glad hold the Z worked out OK.
>Joey_K: CCEIORT B7 CEROTIC +69 294
>Joey_K: UX (challenge) +5 299
#note Damn. Shouldn't have opened that lane. Didn't know it, +5.
>BJ: AEGHMNT A8 HEM +45 308
#note Damn, I forgot MANEH (at A8 for 69). Went with HEM rather than HAME to keep a vowel. Not sure why I didn't just play HAM. Blaming it on tiredness. Yeah, that's it.
>Joey_K: UX 14M XU +31 330
>BJ: ABGNRRT H1 GARB. +33 341
#note Couldn't decide if GARBS or GRABS was safer given what was left in the bag. Figured QAT might go there if I put the A at H3. Being behind going into the endgame I figured was not going to work out well for me against Joey, so I took a gamble on getting the unseen blank. Probably not that smart since he's just had a bunch of tile turnover but I didn't have any better ideas.
>Joey_K: DNORS F1 ROND.S +26 356
#note OK, this makes me think he doesn't have the blank. He's going to try to outrun me and clog it up.
>BJ: EGNNRTU 1A GUNNE. +24 365
#note Should I have clogged things up? Not sure, thought about it. I need to score to keep up, and just hope the blank doesn't factor in for another bingo for him. Just learned GUNTER. GUNNER sims well.
>Joey_K: IWY 4A WI.Y +28 384
#note I'm thinking he still doesn't have the blank after this play ... but ... if he didn't have it, though, why not block things up? Maybe he wanted the equity and also had the Q. Not sure.
>BJ: AANORRT 9M ART +16 381
#note I spent a long time pondering here, looking for something to block the NE corner. But with the Q still out I thought bingos unlikely. So I tried to just score some points and not empty the bag, figured he might not score much if stuck with the Q and maybe I could get lucky.
>Joey_K: Q 11J Q. +22 406
#note OK, he did have the Q, and I got the blank ...
>BJ: ?ANOORS 14E RAtOONS +70 451
>BJ: (challenge) +5 456
#note OMG ... the thought that I might actually win the game was far enough out of my mind that I was a bit shocked ... then panicked ... should've been fairly easy to find a bingo here, I thought, as I stared at it for a while. I'm not sure how I missed GADROONS, I know that word well enough, but somehow didn't see it here. Even after I spotted 14E RATOONS, making LOADINGS, I still tried for a while to go for something in the NE quadrant since I wasn't very confident about LOADINGS, though I gave it maybe 80% of being valid. After a couple more stressful minutes passed, I went with RATOONS, Joey challenged, and I was a bit in shock.
