>David_Koenig: EIILNOP I8 .IPOLINE +64 147
>David_Koenig: EIILNOP -- -64 83
#note CIPOLIN and PICOLIN are good, but only PICOLIN takes the E hook. I suspected as much when I played it, but after Eldar blocked PICOLINE I got greedy.
>David_Eldar: ?EILNXY 6F XI +54 154
#note Eldar told me this rack after the game. He held me for a long time on CIPOLINE not because he had doubts it was phony, but because he was looking for triple-triples. He missed VEXINGLY, which he insisted was a better play, but his play is not too much worse.
>David_Koenig: EIILNOP 4F LOPE +33 116
#note I was torn between this play and the lower scoring but more board opening 4H LOIPEN. In the end, I decided to play this one not because I thought it was better, but because I feared I might have been misremembering LOIPEN because of LOUPEN. I think the best play here is actually 4H LOIPE, which keeps a more balanced rack and sets up the N hook, but I had forgotten that one entirely. I need to study the fives and sixes more.
>David_Eldar: ?ADELNY 3I YEALDoN +88 242
>David_Koenig: BIIJNST L1 JI.T +38 154
#note Quackle static evaluator gives the exact same evaluation to this and JIB B1, which is the play I was intending to make before he bingoed. At this score, JIB might be a better choice, in order to keep a maximal leave and set up extra volatility on the A column, even though the 10 point sacrifice is steep. On the other hand, there is the reasoning that he has just drawn seven random tiles so he may not be prepared to hit the J on row A, while I am holding JIBS for the next turn myself. Static evaluation does not mean much here. A sim might be revealing, especially because its assumption of seven random tiles for him is correct here. My gut feeling though is that the sim will value more the short term value of the possibility of JIBS than the long term value of the extra board volatility. I think they are both strong plays, and it would be interesting to hear what other experts would do here.

>David_Eldar: AFG M6 FAG +25 407
>David_Koenig: DEELLRW 13C DWELLER +81 404
#note I was incredibly lucky not only to draw my third bonus in a row, but also that there was a second spot for it at 2D, so it was sure to go down.
>David_Eldar: GUV 3E VUG +29 436
>David_Koenig: DDEEOQY D11 YO.ED +28 432
#note I saw that there were four A's and two S's remaining and that drawing one of each would give me the massive QAIDS 103, so I sought to play as many of the rest of my tiles as possible in a way that caused maximum distraction. Sim favors this play and YOKED, which plays the same tiles and scores two more, but what it misses is that he is much more likely to take out the QAIDS spot after YOKED.
>David_Eldar: AAINRRS 15D .ARRAINS +77 513
>David_Koenig: ADEFOQS N10 QA.DS +103 535
>David_Eldar: ACHMOTU E10 CAM. +30 543
#note Eldar was running low on time in this endgame with maybe about 3 or 4 minutes left, whereas I had about 11. He needs to go out and score a lot over the next two turns, as I have big plays of FEME E10 and FEM 2H. His tiles are flexible and high scoring enough that he should be able to do it, but that is part of what makes this endgame so difficult in a time-pressured situation. There are so many possibilities that it is hard to focus on the right ones. Strongest winning play 9F MOTH 34 leaves CAUK and YUCA to go out. According to Championship player, E10 MOUE and 9I HOUT also win. His choice CAME is the fourth best play, but it falls just short.
>David_Koenig: EEFMOT 9F TEF +17 552
#note He was threatening outs of E10 CHOUT, 9H THOU 9H, and 9I HOUT. This play is designed to block all of them and leave myself a good scoring out. It is one of only two winning plays that Championship player finds, but J10 FON wins by one more point.
>David_Eldar: HOTU 2I OH +33 576
>David_Koenig: EMO 4A MO.E +22 574
#note Eldar had only seen MOKE and thought he had a tie game. He was crestfallen when I made the winning play.
>David_Eldar: (TU) -2 574
>David_Koenig: (TU) +2 576
#note We were playing international scoring rules, so we subtracted two from his score and added two to mine, which had the effect of reversing our 576-574 score in my favour. Eldar's 574 is believed to be the highest losing score of all time. The combined score of 1150 is also close to the all time high.
