#player1 David_Whitley David Whitley
#player2 Mina_and_Josh Mina and Josh
>David_Whitley: IIII -IIII +0 0
#note Our last and final game in New Orleans. David takes on Goliath in the form of a classic Scrabble duo; white boy and Asian woman. CSW 5-point challenge in MSY airport!
>Mina_and_Josh: EEILRSV 8B REVILES +78 78
#note Starting very strong, we both were not 100% sure of VEILERS, and therefore couldn't risk losing a turn for 5 points. Unfortunately, VEILERS was so much better positionally that we are actually losing around 5 points playing something else. One thing was for certain, we were doubling the V! LEVIERS prevented overlaps the most, but I disliked that it left that S on the star open for business. For me, it's worse to leave an S on the star like that, since 1 out of 6 times, your opponent is just going to get a bingo from the triple! But with LEVIERS, it's even worse because that S is just going to stay there for a few turns. In that sense, I preferred RELIVES or REVILES. We chose REVILES because it seemed like the S was going to get blocked sooner than later, and with RELIVES it was a bit more ambiguous. Maybe the S is blocked but we still leave a prime letter in the triple lane. I think we should have chosen RELIVES anyway.
>David_Whitley: AACDU C3 CAUDA. +20 20
>David_Whitley: EGHU (challenge) +5 25
#note David wows us with his CSW-only 6 knowledge, and all we can do is give him five points for his talent.
>Mina_and_Josh: ?AIMNOR H1 ROAMINg. +86 164
#note We were not 100% sure on ROAMINgS, but I was pretty close, so we went for it. We didn't need to take the risk, with the 2x2 MORA(I)NIc available, which we both missed, but like previously stated, best to not leave that S sitting there! David has a steep path ahead of him. Goliath is living up to its name!
>David_Whitley: EGHU G3 HUGE +30 55
#note HUGE now
>Mina_and_Josh: IWY F6 WI.Y +32 196
#note I cannot remember our racks from hereon out! Just watch the show...
>David_Whitley: EILX D8 .EXIL +30 85
>Mina_and_Josh: EINNOTY I2 NY +24 220
#note Retaining the O for O(NY)#, we were quite happy with this play, since it retained a decent bingo leave
>David_Whitley: EEGO C10 OGEE +24 109
>Mina_and_Josh: HIKNOT D2 KHI +31 251
>David_Whitley: ABLW E11 BLAW +33 142
>Mina_and_Josh: CDENNOT 15C CONTEND +93 344
#note Poor Whitley could not contend with our drawing skills. BLAWN was challenged
>David_Whitley: IQ B2 QI +30 172
>Mina_and_Josh: AAETUZ B12 TAU +12 356
#note missing the T(ICH)# hook and the (WEN)A# hook for scorier* TAU plays, but this did a good job at preemptively blocking the bottom of the A column as a potential bingo lane after a play from B5-B9.
>David_Whitley: EP B8 .EP +29 201
>Mina_and_Josh: AERZ G11 RAZE. +24 380
>David_Whitley: AT I5 TA +13 214
>Mina_and_Josh: AFF 14I AFF +20 400
#note knowing this doesn't take an S (only a Y!), this was a great defensive play that we found.
>David_Whitley: NS 4B S..N +16 230
>Mina_and_Josh: BOP 1G P.OB +14 414
#note this retained the best leave, and blocked the now threatening row 1, as a big play there seems like the only way we can lose. Unfortunately, this also gave back an easier-to-hit lane. I didn't like it too much but it retained our best leave of 4 consonants. Perhaps we should have just played BO at H12
>David_Whitley: ADINRSU K1 SUNDARI +75 305
>David_Whitley: DO (challenge) +5 310
#note nooo!
>Mina_and_Josh: GJTV -GJTV +0 414
#note we almost played something down column L but that gave back a board-closing bingo lane, so we just decided to keep the best possible leave and exchange.
>David_Whitley: DO F13 DO. +27 337
>Mina_and_Josh: ?EEOORT 12G .EROTOnE +66 480
#note I made sure that this won all endgames, even if he drew our recently exchanged JV to EIIST for JIVIEST/AEROTONES#! 11G (R)OOfTREE is probably stronger because it gives back only one floater (two E's) rather than two (N+E)
>David_Whitley: GIMSTTV O8 MITTS +33 370
>Mina_and_Josh: EIJLOR M9 JOI.ER +40 520
>Mina_and_Josh: UNKNOWN (challenge) +5 525
#note Adding the 5 points for BLAWN getting challenged.
>David_Whitley: GV 7J V.G +7 377
#note David fell before Goliath, but it was a valiant fight with the ammunition both sides had unevenly distributed!
>David_Whitley: (L) +2 379
